Check Out These Photos

chevetteman only likes this `cause there's people walking all over the colored parts.

Actually this looks like a Tide Line, which is a bit of a misnomer because it has nothing to do with tides. It is the interface between two bodies of water in the ocean, which may be the result of different salinity (i.e. where a river meets the ocean, and the lighter river water slides over the denser salt water), or just two 'batches' of water meeting each other and abutting or subtending. It is a very common phenomenon.

cheers !

Yes. Ocean fishermen call it a rip (imagine that). It is often a rich fishing environment where different species come to feed on... one another. Dip your hooks.

I saw something just like this as we crossed the Equator. It kind of freaked me out, until I realized what was happening.

I'm not sure if this photo is real or not - it might be photoshoped, but I think it's pretty amazing just the same. I came across it a few years ago, and saved it - can't remember where I got it from...

According to the email I received this is the explanation:

In the resort town of Skagen you can watch an amazing natural phenomenon. This city is the northernmost point of Denmark, where the Baltic and North Seas meet. The two opposing tides in this place can not merge because they have different densities.

I used to see this all the time when I was flying. I always assumed a temperature differential.
