Santa gave me an iPad and I can't seem to figure out what to do with it. Are there apps I simply must have?

I downloaded the Barnes & Nobel app and the kindle app and ibooks, so I've been using it to read books.

I looked at myself for a while with face time (I don't know anyone that facetimes)(I need a hair cut)

I played pandora radio, but truth be told, I lost interest in music during the 80s.

Tell me what to download.

Free only, please.

*snort* No help here. I fought fancy cell phones for years (waddya mean I can't get one without a camera?) And finally broke down and got one with a keyboard a year or so ago because I found myself texting too much to keep doing so without one. For me, books have pages, made of paper. I need that physical connection to my books. Books are books, phones are phones. Yeah, I know, dinosaur.

Anyway, congrats that you got one. The people I know who have 'em, love 'em. Good luck in your app search. :)

I have lots and lots of books, but I also have a Kindle - but the battery died a couple of years ago and I never looked into getting it replaced. All the books I bought for the Kindle are on the iPad, so I guess I could read em again if I wanted.

Everyone will insist the apps they have are all anyone needs even though most often it's a bunch of shit that nobody else cares about.
Google it, find what you think would be nice to have and stop asking the GB for advice.

The thing about books is, they take up an awful lot of physical space. In your house, in your luggage, in whatever... plus, you're limited to what you brought with you when away from home. The Kindle (or Nook or iPad) solve those problems. I know I should get over it, but....

Ummm... angry birds? Or should I not ask?

Here's my most oft-used free Touch apps that have iPad equivalents.

GoodReader

ProCamera

Backgammon NJ v2.5.3

PewPew

Gun Bros.

GoodReader is the one you should nab first. It reads and views virtually every gott-damn thing in the digital universe that's meant to be read and seen, from PDF books to movies. Use it every fockin' day. I've got a good brick of erotic and dirty comics/pics loaded up that make my subway waitin' n' ridin' times more bearable.

The utilities come in handy fairly often. I'm shit at measuring out things and sometimes I'm stumped for saying a word in a particular language. If you're a gamer, the better hi-tech games you'll have to shell out for, but the basic parlor and classic board games have many free apps to choose from and I've upped my Backgammon skills by dueling with the AI.

There are lots and lots of free apps for the Pad to be had, but you have to sit down and sift through the ones you'll actually use. Otherwise, they're just eating up disk space. I have friends who have six or seven "pages" of pure apps and it looks really cool to see them all lined up on screen and gives off this air of a thick, busy Rolodex file of tech savviness, but I have to wonder how many of them they really use on a daily or constant basis?

That is part of the fun of the iPad...checking out all the cool apps. Researching. Exploring.

Just do it.

You're not the boss of me.

Princess has an iPhone.

We looked into the iPad, but what the hell, the phone has everything she needs...

It didn't look powerful enough to really be a tool, so we took a pass.

Got Rosetta Stone instead.

I did not know they were on the menu.

Hmmm...

They were on my 7 year old nephews menu ALL Christmas DAY
I admit, I took a shot at them...more addicting than Angry Birds.
Just not as well known

Side Note: Merry Christmas/Happy New Year 4est. :)

Princess said, "Don't you dare get me any school presents!"

Then she spent six hours on her favorite present, Rosetta Stone...

;) ;)

Now she wants the French lessons.

Happy New Year!

That's on my bucket list ~ To learn a second language.
Yay for French!! Italian would be my second choice.

I told her she had to learn a useful language and since she refuses to learn Chinese, she chose German.

;) ;)

For games, although I do few, my fav has been Flight Control HD. Do not think it is free, though.
