Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

It wouldn't be such a pain in the ass but the service tire display disables all the relevant display information.

i personally believe the tire pressure monitoring requirement is BS. But, who am I?

and metal valve stem caps do not work well together.

First of all, cold weather will cause as much as a five lb drop in tire pressure. It is a good idea to run 32 to 33 lbs of psi in cold weather. I tighten my falve stem caps with a pair of plyers, then keep the plyers in the arm rest, just in case.

If you don't twist the caps very so often they will corrode onto the stems and will be very difficult to twist off. Much better off leaving the OEM caps on since these metal ones are not worth the trouble :(

Valve caps are just to keep crap out of the valve stems and aren't designed to hold pressure. If you're leaking pressure from the stems, you need new stems or valves or the valves need tightened. Most leakage occurs between the bead and the rim. You can try to reseat the tires or buff the inside of the rims, but I've had this done repeatedly to no avail. You can buy new rims but you could end up with the same problem. It's a lot cheaper to just fill the tires from time to time. Forget about just disabling the sensor. The whole system is a pain in he ass.

The vehicle came with metal. Brass valve stems have a galvanic reaction to steel, thus becoming one. Dealer put new stems and rebalanced the tires for free. If you have steel valve caps, lithium grease should be applied to the stems.

That is what you get for putting stupid after market crap on your ride.

It is just a matter of time before those triple bladed pink windshield wipers fuck up.

Sensors were fine, you just couldn't get the valve caps off. I twisted one stem completely off trying.

Oh. Pot metal to brass probably. You can use them, just add a little lube before you put them on.

What are they, skulls or something?

Did you have to replace the sensor or the stem?

I had a terrible 2009 Toyota Tacoma that the system used to come on all the time in, whenever I drove it offroad in the winter(what I bought the stupid thing for). It got to the point I carried a tire gauge all the time and never once was there an issue with Tire Pressure.

My wife's Infiniti has the system and it detected a slow leak from a screw in the tire perfectly. I assumed it was shit like the Toyota system and was surprised to see the screw. The tire was losing a couple of pounds of pressure a day.

Just the stems, luckily. They were just plain steel, or some cheap metal apparently.

Yeah see I didn't know you can replace just the stem. Good that you can, otherwise it would have been a couple hundred bucks I'm sure.
