More Christian Suffering — Including ‘Extinction’ — Under Islam

As Christians around the world prepare to celebrate Christmas, it is well to remember those who are persecuted simply for being Christian.

In Iraq, Christians are on their way to becoming an extinct species. And, according to a reporter who just came from there,

Under President Obama the U.S. is doing nothing. They are putting no pressure on Al-Maliki in Iraq. … I just returned from Northern Iraq … I can tell you that this is a community that is on the verge of extinction. The Assyrian Chaldean Syriac community in Iraq [i.e., the Christian community] constitutes the indigenous people of Iraq. They have been there for millennia. They are being driven out by Jihadi Muslims on the one hand and by Kurdish Nationalists on the other.

Also, be sure to check out my November report on Muslim persecution of Christians, which includes the latest attacks on churches, on converts to Christianity, on preachers, and on Christians in general, such as the following anecdote, one of many:

In Nigeria, the Muslim militant group, Boko Haram, executed two children of an ex-terrorist and “murderer” because he converted to Christianity. When still a terrorist, he “was poised to slit the throat of a Christian victim” when “he was suddenly struck with the weight of the evil he was about to commit.” After finding he converted to Christianity, “Boko Haram members invaded his home, kidnapped his two children and informed him that they were going to execute them in retribution for his disloyalty to Islam. Clutching his phone, the man heard the sound of the guns that murdered his children.”

Read the whole report, there is much more.

PEACE ON EARTH:  sect claims bomb attacks on Nigerian churches; at least 25 killed.

Is there any other KIND?

Just to mention - the exodus of Christians from Iraq began after the first Gulf War in 1991. It accelerated greatly after 2003, under the occupation byt the US, ably helped by its UK poodle. Partisanship among north Americans is completely irrelevant to Christians in Iraq; they felt as threatened when Bush was in power as they do now Obama is in power.

In Nigeria, there are some extremist jihadists in the far north, Boko Haram, whose extreme views resemble the Salafis. But most Muslim-Christian violence occurs along the faultline between the Muslim north and the Christian south, as it has for many decades. The unpleasantness of violence and massacres there, or issuing from there, looks to an outside observer to be about equal on either side of the religious divide (which is complicated by history, state versus regional politics, land, and the particular issue of 'indigenes' in Nigeria, i.e. who is entitle to call a particular place their indigenous home). Nigeria has a Christian president at the moment so 'under Islam' would be a mis-description of the country. To claim the violence happens 'under Islam' would be to ignore the many verified instances of Christian-on-Muslim violence.

But if we dared to bomb during Ramadan,

We'd turn ourselves into the World Court an UN as war criminals...
