You know, once upon a time I might have been inclined to agree, but I've seen plenty of women sporting the same trend. Now, granted, the rest of the outfit doesn't lead me to believe there was any thought whatsoever put into the outfit, but I've always just thought it was common sense that if it was cold enough that you needed socks on your toes, it's cold enough to require closed shoes. I think it's just a knucklehead phenomenon, and the concentration of knuckleheads (at least pertaining to fashion) is far higher in men than in women.
