What a voice he had. Smooth and soulful. I can imagine that a lot of babies were conceived while dancing to "Drift Away".

Not many songs can conjure up memories both of fun times and ofovercoming the worst of times the way "Drift Away." It may have been regarded as "lightweight" when it was recorded and it may have been only one of countless covers of the old Mentor Williams song but nobody else ever gave it the layers of meaning Dobie did. "Drift Away" is one helluva eulogy for a sadly underappreciated master.

I'm listening to "Drift Away" right now as I type this...a shame to lose such talent, but thank gods the music still remains to remind us that talent like his once was here among us.
