For as long as I have been submitting stories here I have said over and over again, in the comment section of each story, I will delete comments that attack me personally, yet they continue.

I just deleted a personal attack that had to take 5 minutes to write. I saw it as soon as it hit so it wasn't up as long as it took to write.

At some point you'd think the trolls would catch on wouldn't you?

Deleting is the easiest method for dealing with negative comments

I do not take attacks on me or negative comments personally. Sometimes, if the comment is negative but constructive, I will choose to respond to it by presenting my perspective. However in most cases all I do is delete the comment and forget about it.

Set up your comments board so that anonymous types can't contribute. That'll cut down on a lot of trolls.

I have a different approach. I know many don't agree with this, but it has worked for me.

I leave the comments right where they are.

Why do trolls do this? To get to you. By deleting it they have gotten to you. They will now keep going.

If you leave it there, you show you don't care. Not only that, but what is fun is when other posters call them out and defend you.

This is just my take, but I have yet to be trolled repeatedly and I think it is because they know I do not care.

Also as a reader, when I see someone who has 40 comments and everyone of them is glowing I know they delete negative remarks and it annoys me. Makes me think "heaven forbid someone not love my free story"

In about 18 months of posting I have only removed 2 comments. One because it was a blatant advertisement for another authors series (probably by the author himself) and one that accused Literotica of being racist because they let me use the word "Nigger" I got rid of that out of respect for the people who run the site.

All in all it is apparent deleting them is not working for you. Try it my way, what do you have to lose?

As the most prolific writer on the site, ergo the most bashed writer, many of my most negative comments stopped immediately when I told my mother to stop reading my stories.

Read the post. They have been deleting them and they keep coming back. It wouldn't hurt to see what happens if you leave it be.

On another note. I think the OP mentioning time and again he will delete the comments in all his authors notes are spurring them on.

Freedom of speech doesn't come into play here as a right. Beyond that, one's privilege to speak (or post, here) does not supersede another's privilege not to listen (or read, here). The website has given the privilege to erase here, not the privilege to write comments on stories in the story file with indelible ink. Work on figuring that one out, hot shot.

My first comment may have been intemperate because I felt you spoilt the thread with an irrelevant and unhelpful remark.

You conflate ownership with policy to seriously misrepresent the clearly stated principles and rules of the owners. Not only are several threads unmodified, attempts to limit freedoms on the AH have been resisted and Scouries has been backed to post his junior high idiocies on SF.

Going through the threads, commenting in green indelible ink in capitals is more than allowed by the owners. The legal restrictions are pretty light as well.

Free speech is promulgated to the extent that the Celebs cat and near-the-knuckle incest are allowed. In fact, the site has sometimes gone public to support its belief in 'free speech'. Of course, the 'fire,fire' in the theater arguments still hold good.

As I understood, the thread was a philosophical discussion on how to react to ad hominem attacks. For a writer and self-moderator this is quite a heavy responsibility and I felt you were trying to score a cheap point by your insouciant remark.

In giving the right to erase, the site has implicitly suggested a writer follows 'corporate' guidelines by saying that the author should 'self-moderate'. They don't say 'self-censor'.

That was my point.

They can be constructive, if constructed well, reguardless of the attacks. Not to mention, the extremely harsh anonymous ones are there because the person fears retribution. Small minds, with small wills, pretending to be tough.

The same goes for overly hateful and baseless comments from users. It's no big deal. Surely your intention is not to please everyone, and some people are never pleased.

Besides, personal attacks cannot hurt you if they aren't true, 'sticks and stones' and all of that. Just laugh at the unbridled anger they must fight. It's depricating to themselves, whether they know it or not.

The OP is about deleting comments. That's what my post was about too. You are the one reading something else into it--but only as an attempt to cover up that you told me to shut up in support of free speech (can we all stop giggling about that now? )

Your posts are about attacking me. Nearly half of all of your posts are out-of-the-blue attacks on me (most of the other half are similar postings to Scouries). And if you can find one post on this forum where I have dropped in on your head out of the blue, cite it. You can't.

I don't remember ever seeing a positive response to a discussion by you on this forum. Just sneery attacks on someone. You certainly haven't contributed to even what you say the discussion is about in this thread. You've just attacked me.

This is a magnificent piece of work. What a ride to tie in a Japanese art form of bondage with art galleries and the Occupy Wall Street movement (giving an alternative, probably more-effective option for the latter) and to be able to get away with including gay male, lesbian, loving wives, inspirational art, and Christmas all in one well-delivered story--which this surely does.

I don't read your work, don't do GM, I do find myself enjoying reading comments however, on a lot of people's stories.

I get some very nice ones as well. Not that you would know as you're way to wrapped up in your own world to ever look at other people's stuff.

Speaking of comments, that leads me to something, involving Your friend Dark (who was the one who got me obsessed with comments when he mentioned he likes haunting the feedback portal)

I find it deliciously hypocritical that you blasted Estragon for his "Disappointments" thread. Citing he has no right to publicly critique others work. From what I gather he critiqued you in a comment and you got ticked at him.

I notice you have no issue with Dark, who is equally unqualified to critique people's work, doing his holiday review thread. Could that be because he (I am so shocked!) gave you a favorable review?
