 I knew black Friday shopping was dangerous, but geez! From here.

Ten minutes after the Wal-Mart in Porter Ranch opened, a female customer used pepper spray on other shoppers at the Black Friday sale, injuring at least seven people and forcing employees to evacuate a portion of the store, police said.

I guess that put a bit of a damper on Thanksgiving

Eyewitness accounts here.

That's just hilarious. It reiterates the idea that "The conditions of public restrooms are why the world's problems are unfixable." Good times, wish I could have seen that. Is there video?

I guess she wanted all of those big screen TV's for $50.00 each. :D

Go watch cattle in a feed lot sometime. When the food comes cascading into the troughs they push, shove and trample each other trying to get at it first.

Same deal here minus the pepper spray.

It's such a stupid day - As of last night, there were two people shot in the parking lots, robbed for their purchases, an old man body slammed by police as he tried to get to his grandson who was being pushed and battered by the crowds (the police said he was shoplifting - the old man says he put the video game in his waist band so he could use both hands to get to his kid) - maybe? maybe not? But it was still crazy.

I've gone out twice in the past 18 years during that day - both times were early on in my marriage, the first year and the second - the crowds and deals were big, but nothing like they are now. I refuse to shop in that mess, NOTHING is worth it. I had to do regular errands and when I was done I left the town, because drivers that are out there are just as stupid as the shoppers that have no sense of pride in themselves and their behavior.

It's horrid. I make a point of NOT shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. I wish I could say it's a principled stand of letting people spend time with families, but honestly I just can't stand the crowds.

My parents took the kids to the zoo, and the hub and I went to see Hugo -- an excellent day.

Anf the Saturday before Christmas is supposed to be an even busier day for shopping! Though I'm not sure if the mobs are as violent that as Black Friday. Let's hope they aren't...

And the brick-and-mortar merchants wonder why so many of us do our shopping over the internet these days!

The Latest!

From here:

A shopper who allegedly fired pepper spray at other customers during a Black Friday sale for Xbox video games has surrendered to authorities, Los Angeles police said Saturday.

Police Sgt. Jose Valle told the Associated Press that the woman who allegedly caused
minor injuries to 20 shoppers, including children, at a Los Angeles-area Walmart had turned herself in Friday night.

She was released pending further investigation after she refused to discuss the incident, police said Saturday.

And the article has this to add:

Walmart seemed to have a worse day than many other retailers as shoppers screamed, shoved and elbowed each other to save a few bucks. Incidents across the country included a man shot by robbers in the parking lot outside a San Leandro, Calif., store and shoppers pepper sprayed by security at a store in Kinston, N.C.

A fight for bath towels, purportedly recorded at a Michigan store, has become a YouTube sensation. Cheap towels also caused mayhem at a Walmart in Oregon, Ohio.

"They were fighting over bath towels on sale for $1.88, as ridiculous as that sounds," Police Sergeant Jason Druckenmiller told Reuters. "A woman tried to get her hands on some towels when she was pushed from behind, and that's when she came out swinging."
Is it that hard to get to cheap bath towels? Heck, I've got a few I'd be wiling to give away....

This was a bad incident. Imagine what people are going to be like next year around this time when panic ensues over the supposed "end of the world" that is rumored to happen next December.

It will be worse than this, unfortunately.

These are people that are either too lazy or uninformed to utilize swap meets, Craigslist free posts, and thrift stores.

If the world's gonna end, why would anyone go to a Black Friday sale? What would you buy that would be of any use?

Pepper Spray her and her kids right after they remove her fingers............

Just a comment on 3113's tag sig - at first glance I thought one of the covers was two males and I thought how clever and cool that is - romance novel style covers for the boys...don't see that every day...but I would like to!

It cleared up when I clicked but it'd be a unique selling point for the boy on boy market :D

Not sure where you haven't been looking then. GM Romance is big business in the e-book world.

There is one with two males; just happen to be a sandwich for a female.

Cyanide capsules? So you can check out before the going gets really tough?

(I've always said that, in case of nuclear missile exchange, I want one of those missiles to land on my head--not thirty miles away.)

 Do they sell those at Walmart? I suppose you could buy a gun and bullets to shoot yourself in the head....

SR's right--there are sites selling gay romances with gents in such romantic poses--I had one sold to such a site but said site is now in, er, financial trouble. Alas, the publisher of the stories you see in my sig hasn't gotten into gay male yet. Someday soon, maybe. :cattail:

Beats me. I've never been in a Wal-Mart in my life. (I have, however, heard that they do sell guns.)

I'd like to know where your cover images come from. My choices with my publishers are so limited in sensuality and skin uncoverage.

Book Covers

I'd like to know where your cover images come from. My choices with my publishers are so limited in sensuality and skin uncoverage.
For a while there, my publishers were using this site with photo/computer-generated figures that looked like it sold images to stripper clubs. There wasn't an actual photographed model so much as a figure posed in negligible panties and bra leaning against this or that or crawling or resting back seductively. The figures didn't vary much outside of hair style. The "cover artist" did the rest--i.e. photoshopping out any trace of clothing, photoshopping in different hair or face.

This site, as I recall, did have some naked men and women.

Now my publisher is doing what most e-publishers do--buying photos off Shutterstock and other such places and using them for the covers. Pretty interesting how the internet has created this whole industry of storytelling-photos so that we can use them for things like e-book covers. Of the many photos I've looked at on such sites, it seems like none are explicit, but there are plenty that are sexy and have the models wearing little to nothing--alas, mostly women. Outside of a cute behind now and then, men are still frustratingly clothed ;)
