Your Thanksgiving Dinner?

We had a wonderful lunch at my mom and dad's. We had turkey, my grandmother's cranberry salad, as well as a new cranberry salad my mother wanted to try out. She then got all healthy on us and everything else she told us had been made from her Weight Watchers cookbook.  and let's throw one more  in there for good measure: Scalloped potatoes, deviled eggs, three types of stuffing, a pomegranate salad, sweet potatoes, some weird lima bean/green bean/mushroom thing.

We also did have some other things: cheese, olives, various pickles & veggies.

I brought calorie rich foods: fresh white rolls, pecan/caramel/apple pie, lemon meringue pie, pumpkin pie and homemade whip cream.

I'm going to offer to have Christmas at my house, and I'll promise my mom to fix some dishes that are weight watchers friendly, but not the majority of the meal!

We ate cheese and crackers before dinner. After dinner 2 of the guests fell asleep, some played Tetris on the Wii, and others hung out in the kitchen waiting for their tummies to fit in more food.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. :rose:

If it was too early to respond...why did you?

A bit early for all of that.
Heck yes.
 Fearing I wouldn't have much time today or even tonight, I posted this query when I had a few spare minutes. And my expectation was that no one would respond until they had feasted and had something to report.

So, no, my post wasn't early. It was written up and posted when I had time to do so. Your two responses, however, were too early as you responded before you had anything to report

I had a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch and will be having a reheated hamburger for dinner. and some pumpkin pie in between.

Family drama, not much. One of the little nephews got racked in the balls while horsing around and went and hid for half an hour. We all waited for the other little nephew to apologize for said "racking of the balls" then waited some more for the one hiding to come in so we could have Turkey day dinner.

Dinner was turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed and sweet potatoes, homemade dinner rolls and green bean casserole. I am so stuffed I want to put my finger down my throat so I can have my pumpkin pie now.

It has all been very nice. We were home, which is rare, and had a few very interesting singles connected with the University over. rather cerebral. A lot on how hard it is for astronauts to piss in space. Stuff like that.

First off I hate Turkey, so caught a buzz so I could force myself to eat some.

There was a great argument between my sister and my daughters boyfriend, that came close to ending with her smacking him. My daughter went into teenage drama mode and stormed out saying she won;t be coming home. That was three hours ago, she just slunk back in about fifteen minutes ago.

On the positive side I won the annual Thanksgiving day pool tournament. $100 and bragging rights for the next year.

Can't wait for Christmas eve. I'm hosting that event. I will make sure to invite the boyfriend again. Maybe next time Sis will clock the little bastard.

Some situations sound far more dramatic & bizarre than they actually are. By some miracle, we found ourselves at home with just the immediate family this year, so my husband invited my ex-husband to join us. An intimate dinner with my husband, ex-husband, and son. But it was okay. Far less drama than adding extended family, actually.

Turkey, deviled eggs, football, stuffing, potatoes, football, green bean casserole, pies, and (you guessed it) football. Very traditional.

Bonus: My 'boys' won.

Hey, you never know. He and your daughter might be broken up by then :cattail:

Can I come?

Made it to the parents with no trouble -- much easier traveling on the holiday sometimes. Had a small but traditional dinner and dessert, and then Mom taught me, Mr. Penn and PennBoy how to play mahjong (Filippino version). PennBoy won -- he's too bright for his own good. Or at least for mine. My brother also called on Skype, which made Mom's day, since PennBro is in the AF and deployed. He's due home end of January.

Traditional turkey dinner with the in-laws. Everything was great - eventually.

This was our first time roasting a turkey in the new convection oven. The Executive Chef directed that the bird be placed in the deep-sided roasting pan. I then inserted the temperature probe and set the oven on autopilot. One hour and 30 minutes later, the oven shut off with great fanfare. It was amazing. The bird was done in half the expected time.

*cue dramatic music*

As I, Sous-Chef de Cuisine, moved the bird to the platter, the awful truth was revealed. Only the top half of the turkey was cooked. The bottom half was still raw. Another 90 minutes of upside-down roasting evened the score. Of course we thoroughly checked for doneness before serving.

Technology. Sheesh!

Yes, but only after the other guests have left.

Then I'll slap a bow on you, call you "Jessie" and give you over to the wife.;)

 (That's me pretending to be shocked.)

Now that sounds infinitely more interesting than what I have planned. Booking my flight now...;)

ME-OW!

Thanksgiving dinner was ... burp! ... 'scuse me  ... quite a feed. My BIL and his wife did the honors serving turkey, stuffing, gravy, smashed taters, creamed corn, creamed spinach, carrot/pineapple medley, stuffed celery and dinner rolls; washed down with apple cider, green tea or Sam Adams Winter Lager.

For dessert, there were apple, pumpkin, key lime and mince pies and peppermint ice cream with coffee or tea.

No drama, just conversation. We were all too stupefied with food to do much else.

I did play some Wii games with my niece and nephews. :D

Old friends visiting from FL in Church this morning. Great to see them again.

Niece, recovering from surgery, cooked for fifty and invited twenty-three. Shrimp, olives, pickled red bell peppers, assorted cheeses, baked ham, turkey, yams, green beans. Preceded by a very short grace and served with Geyser Peak Chardonnay and Beringer Knight's Valley Cabernet. Also cola for the non-drinkers. Finished with a new version of the black-and-white cookie and a big cup of coffee.

Best of all, Skype talk with Herself and younger daughter from Houston, and phonecall from elder daughter in Japan.

So much to be thankful for.

It was just us, which suited us just fine. I baked with my kids yesterday. Stuffed ourselves today. Did some writing. Took a nap. Cleaned out email. Did some maintenance on the laptop. Ate some more. Cleaned up. Now it's almost midnight and I can't believe I'm still awake.

A good day.

Dinner at mom's this year. She'll be 90 in June so we don't argue with her even though turning out a full thanxgiving dinner is beyond her any more. So my daughter went over around noon to help her with the turkey and potatoes (white and sweet) my son brought a non-traditional green bean casserole (made with fresh green beans and home made white sauce), my sister did the soup and salad and we made three pies. Mind you, there were only ten people at dinner for various reasons and I avoid pie because of the sugar and my niece from Denmark is gluten intolerant and can only eat the filling! Three damned pies!
Oh, and my MIL sent me to the liquor store for the wine and etc. Needless to say, we were all stuffed to the gills and there are a lot of leftovers. Tomorrow, I take the turkey carcass and make soup out of it . . .

We spent the day at the in-laws with about a dozen people. The highlight of my Thanksgiving was teaching my daughter to say "gobble-gobble," which came out as a weak "gob-gob." Very cute. :)

Besides that, I had crappy food and awkward conversation around the table, punctuated with homophobic, racist, or obama-is-a-communist-fascist-muslim terrorist comments. We didn't even have cranberry sauce/relish, though on the plus side, that means I avoided the usual cranberry and sugar-free lemon jello monstrosity.

My husband and I snuck away and told each other all the things we're thankful for. That was nice. I said I was thankful that my husband has a family that loves him (and deep down, I am) . . . but I swear, sometimes I just can't stop wondering how I can ensure we never, ever have to visit here again.

My husband works with a guy whose only job for years was to work on the piss problem for the Apollo program. Everyone likes it when he starts talking about his old job at NASA, and it leads to lots of blushing faces with new hires.

I think everyone has had this problem at least once. It happened the first time I hosted a Thanksgiving. I, being the perfectionist that I am, put the bird back in the oven and burst into tears at my "ruined" holiday, and my guests proceeded to get smashed and have the best thanksgiving ever.
