As a pretty new person I have a few questions

I have role played a bit in the past, and I generally enjoy it- so I'm thinking I might try it out here also.

Anyway, I've read the general "how to", and I have a few basic questions.
1] When it says "Closed to [x]", does that mean it's closed to that person, or closed to everyone other than that person?

2] I'm dyslectic, and English is actually my second language. Regardless, my English is generally (I think) reasonable, and I use browser spell check. Still, I ask; how high are the standards here this stuff here?

3] What is expected in terms of response length? In the past I've found that in some stories I was able to write a fairly reasonable portion per post, but in other roleplays I've simply not been able to do that for whatever reason. I'm certainly not a professional writer, or semi professional for that matter.,, Or anything alike really- still I do enjoy roleplaying. What is expected here in terms of message length?

First of all, hello and welcome!

To answer your question, if a thread is marked 'closed' it means it is not available for anyone other than the thread owner and any other named writers. 'open' threads are free to anyone who wants to join in - although check with the thread starter in case they would appreciate a PM to announce your arrival and always read back from the last post to make sure you're not jumping into the middle of someone else's scene.

As for your second and third questions it depends on what you want to write. There are some writers here who write epic posts of a 1,000 words or more without much thought, then there are those who prefer quicker, shorter posts of a paragraph or two...or even in some case, a line or two. Some people want to write in very flowery, descriptive English, some don't.

Read around and you'll soon find people whose style you like and just send them a PM and ask if they'd be interested in writing with you, after all there's no harm in asking

You can PM someone to ask if they'd like to start a new roleplay with you or to join an 'open' roleplay but no, you can't ask to join a 'closed' one.

I agree with Britwitch if a thread is closed it will probably remain closed unless you have such a good idea that it would be impossible not to let you in on the fun.

I usually wrote somewhere between 20 and 30 lines for a post when I was active, sometimes shorter and in a few rare cases probably almost 100 but that was when it felt natural to write that much.

You will find threads were each post is 100 lines or more others with only one line or two.

I'm sure you will have lots of fun if you find a good writing partner.

Ps. I love my spell checker and it is probably a good idea to write your post in a wordprocessor offline and then copy and paste it into a thread. I have lost posts when I have been writing online and belive me it sucks and not in a good way.

I should probably clarify what I meant, I did not mean specifically to write myself into the existing story between an existing group of people (or 2 people), I more so meant it in a "I like this story setup, would you be interested in starting a similar roleplay with me?" way (If that makes sense).

As for writing it in a word processor... There are browser plugins that store a written message in case you accidentally close a tab, the browser, or hit back or such

I would also suggest that you take a look at

SRP Writer's Profiles:

Most of our writers are listed there together with their specific writing preferences with regards to length of posts, grammar etc.

(If you have not already done so pop yours in there also.)

Some will ask for a sample of your work especially if you are new.

That is how I got started I applied to a group thread sent a sample of my writing and the rest as they say is history.

You could also place a piece in Britwitch's writing challenge or if you prefer even post a small piece right here.

This will get your work out there for all to see after which hopefully someone will P.M. you wanting to write.

Because I need to take a break from some other stuff, I'm going to answer your questions in ways that are probably repetative.
1. a 'closed' SRP means the game is underway and no more players are required or allowed.

2. Standards as far as fluency vary. Trust me, there are some writers here for whom english IS their first language and they do horrible, unspeakable things to it that often make me cringe. If you put in the effort, though, I suspect you'll do fine.

3. Post length is based on the SRP as well. You'll find some where post lengths are three sentences, and others where its hundreds of words or more. Mine tend to be very long, but thats a personal preference, and so I tend to write with people who also write that way.

Or, to put it another way, it's all based on the individual SRP and the players.

Just networking with people and just getting your name out there to the people you'd like to write with is a large part of this.

Also check out the In search of Cowriters thread at the top of the Roleplay forum. There people advertise that they're looking for cowriters for thread ideas they have...or just people without an idea but feeling the need to write in one more thread regardless.

Another thing you can do as you read things, is check out people's sigs. A lot of people post the link to their story/thread ideas for others to read. You might want to do that sometime. Create a thread for a place to stash your ideas so others can browse them.

What you could also do is create a thread here in the lounge and put writing samples there. Then, when you posted looking for a game, or replied to post, you could provide the link

What Vail said. Start an idea thread here in the lounge, G. Put any and all ideas for threads you'd like to do even if its nothing more than a yearning to do say a threesome thread.

Put some writing samples there if you wish to alot of people don't though in theirs, but if you think it will help people to get to know you're writing style do so...your choice.

And the most important advice I can give any new person. Most of the women here are housewives here for some naughty fun or college girls for naughty fun and a few are in the in-between with a career but no family and here looking for naughty fun. Just remember that even though most of the women here are looking for naughty fun that doesn't make them sluts from a porno or nymphomaniacs. Be courteous, be polite, be friendly...treat them like people. You do that and you'll have lots of them waiting to start a roleplay with you.

Creating a thread for yourself? Of course. Like I mentioned before, you can use it to write up ideas for threads you'd like to write. people will scan through them. And who knows what will evoke a reaction? Do it for yourself. What can it hurt? Not a thing.
