Being as the issue of sexual harassment is back in the headlines again, I think this is a good time for the issue of sexual harassment itself to be brought up for discussion.

I feel that the government has no business passing laws that are so intrusive, pervasive, and extreme that they micromanage the minutest details of everyday life and human interaction. The way men and women interact in the course of normal everyday life is not an issue for the government to concern itself with.

Men and women can work out their own ways of interacting with each other in matters as petty as this without the state. The sex harassment laws themselves are an extreme case of government overreaching into our lives and need to be REPEALED.

My momma knew how to deal with sexual harassment.

She was pretty attractive and lotsa guys hooted and bellowed and whistled, and she stuck her 38 in their face and asked for an apology.

We don't have laws against being rude to each other, to non-perjurious lying, to whether we do or do not say "hi" when we pass each other in a hallway. People would be right to view these things as an absurd area for the state to be micromanaging and regulating.

In the same vein, the government needs to get out of the business of micromanaging whether or how men and women flirt with each other, yes, even at work. Its simply not the state's business. If someone crosses the line into touching that is sexual assault, if someone is simply being a normal human and not an asexual android and shows interest in another human that is not.

Lets repeal these stupid, harmful, and counterproductive laws once and for all!

Or people can simply refrain from sexually harassing people who they're in a position of power over.

Government should have stayed out of the way men/ women interacted a long time ago. Now those pesky bitches can vote now too!

Let's not get me started on the govt sticking their noses into the way blacks and whites interacted.

Government ruins everything don't it?

In case you missed the memo, women are now allowed in the white man's club.

Why are you starting so many blatantly retarded threads?

So if a female employee is working hard to make an impression on her boss and go for that big promotion, you think it's no big deal if that boss starts making comments about her breasts and then asks her over to his apartment for drinks after work on the eve of deciding who gets the promotion?

You don't think that's a shitty situation for the woman to be in? It's not just a little exploitative? It's not abuse of power? It's doesn't create a hostile work environment? Are you actually unaware of these things or do you just not care?

Exactly. How come the "weak and victimized" women of yesteryear seemed to be more than able to keep men in line while the post-feminist "strong woman" needs the government, courts, and millions of dollars in compensation to protect her from an evil male co-worker who dares to ask her out on a date?

Let me guess, you think sex harassment laws are "ok" and shouldn't be repealed?

What a surprise.

Funny, I didn't see anything about race in the original post.

Would you support the government outlawing sex? Don't you feel that at some point the government becomes too intrusive?

Don't you think its in fact "retarded" for the government and the courts to de facto outlaw people expressing any sexual attraction to each other just because they happen to step through a workplace door?

I agree, currently the law is sexist.

When it comes to sex, males seem to have surprisingly little support from government. IE: Women pedophiles structurally get lower punishment than male pedophiles. Woman rapists hardly ever get an actual sentence.

I disagree the law needs to go away, but the law does need to be fair towards both genders.

PS. Am I correct that, seeing as you think government should not dictate affairs between men and women, that you think they should just stop fighting gay marriage?

No but that statement demonstrates that you have no understanding at all what is harassment and what isn't.

Last point, absolutely not for reasons of biology and common sense, as well as, scope and magnitude.

Marriage is not petty daily interaction.

Like just about everyone, I think we should have these laws, yes.

How come you're refusing to answer my questions though?

Oh right, that sanctity of marriage thing?

So, you agree that people shouldn't be able to get married for the 7th time, after having known eachother for a month? Weird- that seems to be perfectly legal.

Also, you know what's actually shorter than Kardashian's marriage? Your consistency. Holy fuck how fucking hypcritical and thick do you fucking get? Shit.

Biology? Well Animals are gay plenty, and science seems to agree that gender preference is not a choice. It would seem that biology creates men with their own sexual attractions, it seems biology is pretty liberal.

I find it pretty interesting that you think it's worse for two people who've been in a loving relationship for 20 years to get married, than sexual harassment.

I have a perfect idea of the chilling effect on any expression of normal human attraction at work, regardless of what legally does or does not constitute sexual harassment. Employers always have policies that go beyond what the strongest court ruling is, to err on the side of caution. De facto, in many (most?) workplaces today, people don't dare even give a hint that they might have attraction to a co-worker.

The 21st century workplace has become largely a de facto sexually neutered / asexual environment, which is sad as many people used to meet their spouse at work. My parents met at work, millions of couples did.

Now we have to pretend we are desexualized androids when we walk through the workplace door. Its stupid.

I don't think anyone would argue that sex in favor of a promotion or to keep her job etc. is most deff. an abuse of power and is the core of sexual harassment. But it is total bullshit when a guy gets thrown under the bus because he just happened to be the ugly or fat guy who looked down her shirt when she came to work with her tits hanging out. Quite a number of "sexual harassment" cases are just as frivolous as any other civil suits. "I offerd him a blow job and ATM and he took it!!! that mother fucker!!!" sir you are fired....here is your court date, BOHICA.

Depends on how much money he makes . The guy that just happens to be the big bucks boss flirts, the broke janitor or co-worker harasses. Women are just as shallow as men. A guy who is normally is a 2 or 3 will suddenly becomes a 9 or 10 when women are told he brings home 250k a year.

I think it's retarded for someone to characterize sexual harassment as "expressing sexual attraction to each other." Invariably, with harassment cases, the attraction is one-sided, hardly mutual at all. Only a clueless idiot or misogynist would suggest that we need to do away with sexual harassment laws.

I agree with this, the law really needs to swing both ways.

Asking a co-worker out on a date isn't sexual harassment.

From your posts it appears you don't know what behavior constitutes sexual harassment.

I'm not so sure the government is involved in passing laws against it. I don't recall anyone going to jail for sexual harassment.

And what nugget of shit are you basing this on? I've worked in the corporate world for the last 30 years for several different companies. The 'sexually neutered' world you describe doesn't exist. I have never worked at a company that prohibited dating among employees - so long as they're not in the same chain of command. I've seen several marriages - one just last year.

I've also see the amount of shit that NO ONE should have to put up with drop dramatically. I, for one, don't want a return to that. Yes you shouldn't have to enforce good manners but apparently you do. Oh well. Life isn't always as we'd like it to be.

Sure but "he looked at my chest" isn't the basis of a substantial sexual harassment suit.

"He stares at my breasts constantly, stands over me to look down at them, and continued to do it after I asked him to stop" has much more substance though.
