What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

The bit I like about one of the 9's is that folks today who pay no taxes will be contributing something to the national pie. That bit seems to have gotten no air-time.

Yes, Herman has stepped up to Obama's "skin in the game" challenge.

50% of the people simply do not give a shit about raising federal income taxes because it's no skin off their back; it leads to a death spiral. Soon they will want to be paid to vote...

If you have a dog in the fight, even an old mangy redbone with nowhere else to go, you start to care a bit.

I had an electrician friend who successfully went into business. He observed in conversation one gray winter's day that it's funny that, as you start to accumulate some stuff, you begin the incline to voting conservative.

Funny, but any more, you need to know what lobby's teepee they're sleeping in.

Yeah, I'm no Christian, but I do so wish it on everyone, commandment-wise, like how, you know, uh, like, coveting is ba-a-a-d d00d!

It's mainly based on the idea that you ain't ever gonna get any...

Ivan and Igor were two dirt-poor Russian peasants; same amount of land, same out buildings, same everything. Except for one thing. Igor had a goat.
One night Fairy Godmother came to Ivan and told him he could have any one wish he cared to make.
Ivan was a careful man and thought for a great while and then he said, "I wish Igors' goat would die."
That is the modern American liberal.

:) Shit Happens!

That kind of greed and envy seems to be a spiritual deprivation, and religion isn't necessarily the cure for it.

I find that, if I focus on being helpful and simply keep doing what appears to be the Next Right Thing, shit has a way of working out, in spite of what I think or feel, or what i believe to be true.

Do unto others as...

;) ;)

I remember that Quaker shit. Most of it was plain ol' good common (economic) sense.

If you think it is acceptable to take a percentage of someone's income above your station in life, then everyone in that station, as well as everyone below your station in life will find it perfectly acceptable to take like amount from you.

With the Dow climbing near 10,000 again what's happened to all of the dire, end of the world ravings of our resident "conservative" economists?

Where is all of this inflation we were warned about? According to reports the Consumer Price Index is down 1.5% overall from last year. Despite Augusts increase in prices, gasoline is still down 30% from the high a year ago.

Despite the dire warnings of some of Lit's resident math wizards the Chinese are still very much interested in buying US Treasury securities.

I guess the sky isn't falling after all.
Don't need a doom and gloom thread when the real world is full of jobless claims, tax crazied government, no elected leadership anywhere and high prices on the simple basic staples we use....yeah the real world is hurting and bad news is evreywhere but the mindless still keep loving Obama and his retarded policys that spend money and create debt that your grandkids will never pay off, smile everyone smile!!

*chuckle*

Now you know why we have kept bumping the thread for two years...

Democrats kill Obama's failed jobs plan again:

Obama’s jobs bill fails second Senate test

After halting President Obama’s entire $447 billion jobs-stimulus bill last week, the Senate blocked a $35 billion slice of the package in a late-night filibuster vote Thursday that highlighted the lingering questions among both parties over the White House’s plans.

The 50-50 vote fell 10 short of the 60 votes needed to advance the bill, and saw two Democrats and one independent join with all 47 Republicans in sustaining a bipartisan filibuster.

“Four out of every five Americans who would pay higher taxes are small business owners. That doesn’t sound like a jobs bill to me,” said Sen. Lamar Alexander, Tennessee Republican.

Minutes later the Senate also blocked Republicans’ counter-proposal, which would have repealed a requirement that would have withheld 3 percent of payments from all government contractors beginning in 2013 — something all sides say is burdensome, but which they can’t agree on how to pay for.

Nah, nothing disingenuous about saying that Democrats defeated the jobs bill when it was 2 Dems and ALL of the Republicans that voted against it. Especially considering that even had those two voted for it, it still would have failed due to GOP fillibuster requiring 60 votes as usual.

Still the party of obstructionism.

It's the Idiot President who insists on presenting legislation that has no chance of passing in order to gain political points. Must have been fucked up beyond all recognition not to have gained the support of Olympia Snowe for God's sake.

*laugh*
You mean like the GOP debt ceiling legislation the House wasted a week on resulting in our credit downgrade?

Displaying your ignorance again dipshit, as usual. ALL of the Republicans voted against the bill, Snowe included. I'll wager you have as much of a clue about the contents of the bill as you have about the vote.

If you had a clue of any kind, your piss ant brain would be completely overloaded. I know one thing, if Democrats can't sell that dumb bitch a liberal plan, it's terminally fucked...much like you are...feather merchant.

It was approved by ud's janitorial local 666. :)

Yet, for some unknown reason, I seem to know more about what's going on in the Senate than you do.. Which would put you somewhere below your estimate of a piss ant brain.

The vote on this part of the jobs plan fell victim to the same obstructionism on the part of the GOP as the full plan did. This is just more of the same foot dragging on the part of the Republicans that has been employed any time the President endorses a bill, even if it's one the GOP initially suggested.

I'ts Party over People, plain and simple. At this point, Republicans have all but announced their plan to keep the economy from significantly improving, and as a result, slash the tires on President Obama’s bid for re-election.

The thing is, the people aren't as blind, nor as stupid as they hope.

But you are, keep crying.
