 From here.
Muammar Gaddafi has been killed after National Transitional Council fighters overran loyalist defences in Sirte, the toppled Libyan leader's hometown and final stronghold.

"We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Muammar Gaddafi has been killed," Mahmoud Jibril, the de facto Libyan prime minister, told reporters on Thursday in Tripoli, the capital. Crowds took to the streets of Tripoli and Benghazi, the eastern city that spearheaded the uprising against Gaddafi's 42-year rule in February, to celebrate the news, with some firing guns and waving Libya's new flag.

Abdul Hakim Belhaj, an NTC military chief, said Gaddafi had died of his wounds after being captured on Thursday.

Yep, all gone. (assuming it wasn't a body double--he's used them before.) We'll see if the new leaders are any better--they certainly haven't been in Egypt.

Actually, I'm waiting for someone to prop up a dummy with his photocopied face on it. They'll put it in uniform, announce that a body doubled died, not him, then wheel the dummy out on to the balcony.

No one will be the wiser ;)

I'm more concerned about who is replacing them than seeing them dead. Westerners continually are a little dimwitted on this issue. Bashar al-Assad is second generation. All that has been bad in Syria can't be laid on his doorstep. I don't particularly want to see Mubarak dead. He was our ally through a lot of issues in the Middle East and helped keep the region relatively stable for decades. He also lived austerely, and he's being scapegoated now. Qaddafi had become a toothless clown. His successors may not be any more to our liking and may be less toothless and tired.

Iraq and Afganistan should have given the pubic a clue on leadership potential in the Middle and Near East that would be to our liking (but obviously hasn't). The Western governments should not have needed the clue. The Obama administration didn't need it quite like the Bush the lesser (Bush the greater was more savvy) did, but their public has been dumber than a lamp post on these issues. And Obama hasn't been all the bright on Iraq and Afghanistan. (He revealed he wouldn't be even before he was elected.)

Obama says that a "Dark shadow of tyranny has been lifted"

So when is he stepping down?

Anyone who calls Obama a tyrant is either not reading the tea leaves very well, is just interminably racist, or both. Obama's problem up to the last week has been just the opposite.

I am hard pressed to imagine that Obama has oppressed anyone, at least stateside. Now if you're some deranged demagogue in the Middle East and you get a Hellfire in your ear, you might want to argue, but when you declare personal war on the only remaining superpower, what do you expect? But here? Get real!

Come down from the mountain Mohammad and see what it's like out there.

Oppression takes many forms, recession and depression destroy the will and desire of the people and make them easy prey for the oppressor.

And while people are homeless, jobless, impoverished, where does the money go? Well to war. We are at war with everyone, who is next with Libya done with? Syria, oh, no now it will be Iran. When Bush got involved he was a war monger. This man has us fighting every where.

Ironic that he won the noble peace prize is it not? As for racism? The great thing about Obama being president is it takes away the crutch of idiots like Al Sharpton who want to cry racism at every turn of a dime.

It is pretty tough to scream racism when there is a man of color in the white house now isn't it? Of course in fairness to him, he inherited a disaster, but has responded by making it twice as bad. And lets get back to oppression and discuss religious oppression, one more term and the word god would become profanity in his administration (not that with my beliefs I give a shit, but it would be nice if you Christians were allowed to do as you please)

Fortunately he won't get a second term. Unfortunately... well the options are thus far a bit limited.

Oh and BTW stop being coy and have the stones to quote me when you call me names.

Dead and not captured, best for all concerned,IMHO.

So is Assad next on the list of deposed Tyrants?

Yemen's Prez is saying he'll sign out, if the jackles won't eat him, on his way out of town.

Iran is too stable from their sheer size. It would not be a "Popular" uprising, for that you need lots of CIA money, to "hype the propaganda" and we sure aren't active in Iran, eeaer, or Are we?
