The Authors' Hangout 2011 Halloween Contest Support Thread.

Before I put up tonight's track, I'm going to link the four stories that posted today so people can use it as a reference. Once voting starts working, you can use these links to vote for stories that you couldn't vote on today.

NOTE: While I don't know for sure, and it's been a while since I tested, I've seen evidence that votes cast by coming back to a story after reading it earlier may be swept. So, I suggest lingering on each page of the story for a minute or so before casting your vote, if you read it previously and want to give the best chance of it counting.

( of course, I think that contestant votes may be automatically swept as well, but not everybody coming here is a contestant :) Never hurts to show your support anyway )

http://www.literotica.com/s/incubus-15 ( NonHuman )
http://www.literotica.com/s/tampyre ( Sci-Fi & Fantasy )

With that done, here's tonight's track.

One story was removed from the contest and the author's list. Four new stories brings us up to 54.

The average score is 4.07 and the median 4.14

The average vote total is 174 with a median of 78 and a total of 8680.

Still no voting capability tonight and the navigation of the site is even clunkier than usual--which is really saying something. Apparently the site administrators really thought Colombus day was a holiday.

Voting is working this morning ( at least it did for me )

So if you read something from the contest that posted yesterday, now's your chance to go back and vote for it. List provided above for quick location :)

Sigh. Submitted and still waiting for it to post. Well I'll go do something with the little one, hopefully it'll be up when we get back. See it's all hurry up and wait...

It's Time

Oh, my God. No! Say it's not true! Surely you jest. I was rejected! Rejected? How can that be?

But, but, but my stories are quality stories and very long, too.

What must I do to be accepted to win a prestigious AIR award? How can I turn my writing around to win the grand prize of...nothing, absolutely nothing but air.

Scouries, admittedly, you were funny when you created the AIR awards but you lost your supporters when you didn't come through with prizes. Then, to compound things, you annoyed the shit out of everyone when you refused to stay in the confines of your thread. Truth be told, you don't even have a place to vote for AIR award nominees.

It's time you stayed in your room at the nursing home, instead of sneaking out to the nurses desk to use their computer. It's time you took your medication, so that you wouldn't have these illusions. It's time you stopped bothering everyone here, just because your angry and jealous.

It's time to give it up, Scouries. It's time.

Meanwhile back at the ranch and getting back to the business of a real writing contest (kind of, a little bit), and away from Scouries empty airheaded contest does anyone know what happened to today's submissions?

I submitted a contest story early yesterday. Normally it posts the next morning, sometimes in the afternoon. Yet, my story is not there. Did anyone have similar problems with their story not appearing?

Just wondering. I don't really expect an answer from anyone, other than Dark, but I thought I'd post my frustration anyway.

By the way, Dark...

Being that I live just a stone's throw, across the Charles River, from MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, I asked some of my egg headed scientist and mathematician buddies about the results of my contest scores. If anyone will know, trust me, these guys have all the answers.

According to them, all the answers to life are mathematical forumlas. Go figure. If only they could give me the winning lottery number.

I don't have the mathematical formula in front of me, as it took up most of a blackboard but, they told me that it would be a mathematical improbability for my scores to remain the same in nearly all of my stories (except for that one romance story that you so kindly mentioned) throughout the entire contest, after receiving hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of votes.

Isn't that odd? I find that odd, don't you? Wow, it's so odd.

How can I have a score of 3.48 with sixty votes and still have a score of 3.48 after 120 votes, 240 votes, 360 votes, and 480 votes. Seriously, how can that happen?

Coincidence? Could be, but the amazing thing is that type of thing happens to me every contest and with nearly every story. Weird, huh? Don't you think that weird, Dark? I think that's really weird.

It's as if someone is purposely suppressing my scores. No, say it's not true. Nah, I don't believe it, but what else could it be? I don't understand. What do I know, I just write stories.

If I was a suspicious person, I'd think that these contests were fixed and actually rigged against me to make sure that I don't win.

Laurel still hasn't answered me. I think I'll PM her again.

Let me know if you come up with anything. Thank you for your time.

i did, several days ago now. laurel fixed it after a quick pm. :)

Now that I'm thinking of it, now that I'm on the subject, I wonder if I'm on to something.

Has anyone else had a strange experience with their scores remaining the same, after receiving hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of votes or am I the only one?

Maybe there was a second shooter at the Kennedy assassination. Maybe Elvis and Michael are (gulp) still alive.

Maybe Republican politicians are not lying thieves only looking out for themselves. Maybe there is a Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, and life after death.

Maybe all this is a dream and when I die, God will look exactly like...Scouries.

"Oh, God help me."

I submitted early yesterday but the release date is for tomorrow. The 'pending' is now black, not blue. I'm guessing it has to do with all the problems Lit had yesterday and to give those that had stories out an extra day. Looks like all the dates have been changed from 10/10 to 10/11 on those stories, too. It's 10am now, my time, so I'm okay with waiting until tomorrow. :)

uhm ... i got a couple that are humiliatingly low and static. but that could be more down to quality. :D i do know that the first two votes were the great 1 bomb.

Due to quality? I find that hard to believe knowing the great writer that you are.

Hopefully 1 bombs will be erased by the sweeper.

Okay, not to belabor this and to continue to beat my head against the wall, but I have my friend here with me, Professor Blackburn, instructor of advanced mathematics at the prestigous MIT.

"Professor, can you give me your opinion what the odds would be to have a contest story that has 60 votes and a score of 3.48 and after receiving 60 votes more, 120 votes more, and 240 votes more, and the score remaining the same?"

"Very unlikely. Mathematically improbable. A virtual impossibility. I could state the formula, but I'd need my supercomputer to write it to the 20th power."

"Thank you, Professor. Just one more question. I have had similar stories, dozens actually, in other contests with the same results."

"That's not possible. The odds of that would be to the infinite power."

"I assure you, Professor, that by my scores do not change from the beginning to the end, no matter how many votes I receive, that is, until the sweep, when I'm certain that not all my bashing votes are erased, as they are with other writers, that may be singled out not to win."

"I see. My professional opinion is that these contests are predetermined."

"Predetermined, Professor? I don't understand."

"The contests are fixed."

"Oh, my God. I never considered that, not really, not at all, okay, I may have pondered the thought that these contests are rigged but why are they rigged against me?"

"That's easy, Freddie. You are the greatest writer I have ever read."

"Thank you, Professor. By the way, the check is in the mail."

Received a PM from Laurel (Mine is one of the stories hung up from yesterday and another one is one that normally would post today). Because of the broken voting link yesterday, yesterday's contest stories are "new" again today, and the stories submitted yesterday for the contest won't post until tomorrow.

Finally back in the flow of the story. Can't believe there's less than two weeks left to post. Eek!

Are all of the voting/posting issues resolved now?

Yes, mine is listed as posting tomorrow as well. A little disappointing, but no big deal. And I submitted it to a couple of other sites and have already gotten some positive feedback. And at least I know, so I won't sit around today continually checking. :)

So I guess now it's back to the hockey and romance...

Sorry for the double post, but since most of you probably have Scouries on ignore and won't see his "Airhead Contest" thread on AH, I'll repeat my response to his contest banning here:

Thanks for the free publicity, Scouries. To have you knock stories is a real boost--as is being kicked out of the Airhead "awards"--and early in the game too. You were the inspiration for my participation in the Halloween contest this year and I knew that your attentions would give me that extra publicity contestants needed--with you doing all of the work.

Knowing your sense of quality, I'll be happy to go with what the readers of the stories think.

Using your instructions on what has to be in your contest--and wanting to be banned from it--I have struck the perfect formula, I think. I call it the "13 for Halloween" effort. (Get it?)

I'm striving to post thirteen stories for the contest in as many minor (and irritating to you) categories as possible (I'm projecting 10), with, of course, an emphasis on the Gay Male category that is especially teeth gnashing for you.

I'm about half way through. Maybe you could tick them off in daily diatribes to give me an added boost (pretty please):

Already Posted:

"Imagine" (GM--with a touch of incest, just to give you a shiver of joy--and also because a forum poster asked me to do a brother-brother story)
"3 for Poe" (nonerotic)
"Spicing Up the Brew" (Loving Wives)
"Beat the Devil" (GM)
"Who Woulda Known?" (Lesbian)
"Tall, Dark, and . . ." (Interracial Love)

Still to Come:

"Chink in the Armor" (Transvestite & Crossdressing)
"The Devil Made Me Do It" (GM)
"Night of All Nights" (Masturbation & Toys)
"Spruce Street Peek-a-Boo" (Voyeur & Exhibitionism)
"Cold Stone Tomb" (GM--horror and vampire)
"Eyes of the Cat" (Group Sex with a touch of lesbian)
"The Note" (Humor & Satire, playing off cuckold)

It's fun to write in a wide variety of categories. You might get up the courage to try it someday. I'm sure you can get "Mommy" in other category titles beyond Incest.

I will admit that there's a second (and third/fourth) inspiration for my run at the Halloween Contest. One of my primary harrassers has twice declared I don't participate in contests here--doing so the last time with one of my contest stories sitting right there on the "New" list. So, I thought it would be kicky to enter three times as many stories to this contest as she has posted to Literotica--ever. (And do you think this will stop her from declaring I don't enter contests?) And then there are a couple of harrassers who declare I write nothing but GM (despite that, yes, the sr71plt name is mainly for GM--but even here I've posted far more other stories in other categories in the sr71plt name than most authors have posted to Lit. in total--including green Es in multiple categories). So, ten different categories--to a single contest. In-your-face time.

Score high? Of course they won't, not with all of the harrasers flushed out.

Still, if anyone is interested in showing how much we love Scouries and his Airhead "contest," going to my stories and voting them up would be lovely "in-your-face."

Luna, as the old song says "You can't hurry love." The story is beautiful so far, so don't get crazy with the deadline.

Freddie, your scores change on a near daily basis during contests, just like everyone else's.

http://www.darkniciad.com/hotlink_pics/lit_stats_home.htm

The tracks are all right there.

Taking two of your stories from the last contest:

3.78, 3.75, 3.74, 3.74, 3.75, 3.76, 3.77, 3.77, 3.75, 3.73, 3.74, 3.74, 3.74, 3.76, 3.78, 3.81

4.65, 4.66, 4.62, 4.62, 4.63, 4.61, 4.62, 4.62, 4.65

Sorry, but it doesn't mesh with what you're saying is happening, and it's the same in every contest I've tracked. The data's all right there on my page for you or anyone else to look at. The previous tracks show the locations where I gather the data via links ( score comes from author page, not linked. I click from the story page after gathering views, comments, and favs ), so anyone can keep track and then confirm what I post after the contest is over if they so choose.

There's just nothing to support website manipulation of your scores.

Sorry, but I think you just proved my point.

You went from 3.78 to 3.81 on one story and 4.65 to 4.65 on another story.

What you failed to take into account are the huge volume of votes.

Listen, we both know that 4.65 story should have not only been a 4.90 story but also should have won the contest. Secondly, for the sheer volume of votes that I receive, too may 5 votes to count, it's nonsense whenever I have a story in the 3 point something category, when even the worst writer here has scores much higher than mine and with a lot less votes.

You're not a stupid person, Dark, so why are you dumbing down now? We both know the real score here. We both know that the contests here are...not nearly fair.

No matter. It's just about the story and I'm having the time of my life writing what I want whenever I want.

Besides, the professor at MIT conclusively proved that these (ahem) writing contests are predetermined.

Thank you for taking the time to do your statistical analyzation, but we both know otherwise. We both know the truth.

Luckily you just like to write, and none of the rest of that matters to you.
