Why does he oppose welfare for other poor people?

Perhaps his mother should have starved, and him along with her?

Republicans don't care about people...he opposed so his mother would die...the sick cracker

Another example of how broken the welfare system is. Obama's Auntie lives and public housing and works for the government. As an illegal. Is the entire state of Mass on welfare>

I support a safety net, always have. We had one before Obama and will have it long after Obama leaves. I don't know what you're talking about.

I am opposed to the growth in Government spending from a relatively comfortable 18-19% of GDP to the 24% that we've grown to under Obama's administration....along with the average $1.6T annual overruns that goes with it...I think we should go back to our "historical" levels of spending and get the deficit and debt under control. We didn't have trouble with the safety net before Obama, lets go back to that.

What's the big deal about the five percent increase. I don't understand how eighteen to nineteen is comfortable but twenty four is catastrophic. The 1.6 T overruns are an aberation and not worth getting into a tizzy over.

Obama has increased spending by a tremendous amount which is what is getting us to the $1.6T annual overruns...we don't need the extra spending and it's causing havoc in our markets and economy.

Someday, taxes are going to have to increase on everyone (not just "the rich") to pay for all this extra spending and that is also throwing a wet blanket on our economy.

Why, you might ask, will the taxes be on "everyone". It's because Obama is spending so much that increasing the taxes on "the Rich" by 100% would only cover a fraction of the additional spending....there's just not enough "rich" people to cover all the spending increases.

The 1.6 Trillion dollars is a freak occurance. Stop worrying about it.

Increasing the taxes on the rich just a tiny bit would cover ALL expenses and run us at a surplus. Stop listening to right wing media and go look at the budget, what its made up of and how it works. Seriously your too smart for this bullshit.

Oh sure, the deficits in 2009 and 2010 were around 1.4 and 1.3 trillion respectively. And next year's deficit is projected at around 1.1 trillion. Definitely nothing to worry about.

We're running overruns of about $1.5T per year....over 10 years that's $15 of new Debt if we don't cut back spending (and in the debt discussions, the Dems argued fervently against even minor cutbacks).

The new taxes that Obama is talking about on "the rich" (making over $200k) adds about $700B over 10 years....

$15T - $700B = $14.3T...ergo, the "tax the rich" only addresses a small part of the total overruns in spending that Obama has implemented in each of the last 3 years.

Our overruns over the past 3 years or so are around $5T...so the new tax receipts over the next 10 years on "the rich" doesn't even come close to paying off the new debt that Obama has occured in just the last 3 years.

Honestly I think if we cut defense spending, close tax loopholes, and raise the tax on the wealthy and estates to their Clinton-era levels, we should be fine.

And give the IRS better funding, of course. Did you know that for ever dollar we spend on them, we get four dollars back? Amazing.

The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are winding down in a serious way. Sure they'll still be there but we still have troops in Japan and Germany and I feel very comfortably assuming neither is a threat. Lower deficiet.

The rich are still making record money, the money you are not gathering from the middle class still exists, your simply not taxing it because you choose not to. Lower deficiets.

We are creating jobs and not losing them. More people will pay taxes this year than paid last year or the year before. Lower deficiets.

The Bush tax cuts cost us trillions. Eliminate them. Personally I'd raise them a bit from there but just eliminate them. Let the ten year vacation end. Lower deficiets.

We have this problem in large part because you want this problem.

Honestly you get two choices. Either the rich get to have everything and they are obligated to take care of the rest of us or we fight for a world where we have enough to get by without them. I'm not LT I don't really care which way we go. I can see massive fuck ups with both systems. The only thing I know is that your system is suicide for approximatly 47% of Americans.

Brown has been the first Senator with integrity that Mass has had in 30 years.

He votes on the issue unlike Kerry or the Liberal Hyena.

Elizabeth Warren is an eltist joke

I'll make a deal with you.....I'll support raising tax rates to those under Clinton if you bring spending down to the same levels as they were under Clinton in the early years.

See the fun part is we won't really have to reduce too much in the way of federal spending (minus some defense cuts) if we simply re-adopt the Clinton tax levels and close as many tax loopholes as we can find. Benefit for everyone!

And also ending select subsidies that aren't really needed anymore. Like corn. Icky.

Good, let's start with cutting the military and all corporate welfare.
