Denied health insurance because of cholesterol?

I've been denied health insurance from two major insurance companies because I had blood work done, and it was determined that I had high cholesterol. I used to be overweight (290lbs) and now I'm down to ~210 lbs.

Other than my cholesterol, I do not have ANY other health ailment whatsoever. In fact, the last time I was tested, my cholesterol was fine. I am in absolutely perfect health other than the fact that my cholesterol is high.

How can health insurance companies deny someone coverage for something as simple and trivial as high cholesterol? What if I really get sick and need a doctor? Do I have to sit in the corner of a dark room and just let myself die because greedy and evil corporations see me as a financial expense?

Health insurance companies will cancel and deny coverage to people for the simplest and most trivial reasons. The problem is so bad, some Americans are actually traveling to other countries to be medically treated for a terminal illness. It's been determined that the number one cause of death in the United States is actually the medical system itself!

Insurance companies are not interested in helping you, they just want your money. If you develop a terminal illness they will drop your coverage, and you'll end up having to pay hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars out of your own pocket to save your life.

The healthcare system in the United States is setup in a manner to benefit the financial interests of health insurance companies, pharmaceutical firms, and some elements of organized medicine. "Healthcare" in America has absolutely nothing to do healing people and treating patients, it has everything to do with placating wall-street financier special interests.

Millions of Americans are forced onto tax-funded state insurance because they were unjustly cancelled or denied coverage by the corrupt and unsavory business practices of the health insurance industry. No, these people aren't all lazy idiots who refuse to work and live off the government dime from cradle to grave.

Also, health insurance companies pay their CEO's and executives more money than any other industry. Most CEO's of "big insurance" make >$25,000,000 per year + giant bonuses. Some of these megalomaniacs/cold blooded killers get greedy and do things which negatively affect millions of people, but put large sums of money into their pockets.

For example, "The CEO and top executives refused to sacrifice their company-paid trip to Fiji, so they laid off thousands of employees."

Take Lipitor, eat well, get regular exercise...then apply for the insurance.

how high is high.. which cholesterol is high.. how many times did you test high and what interventions have already been introduced?

there is a chance that it isn't something "trivial" and it might be worth looking into different management of it. I figure.. if you can lose that weight (and super great job on that one.. it's not easy) you can manage a little thing like cholesterol.

Keep up the good work and I hope the best for you.

I believe my cholesterol was within the normal ranges the last time I was tested.

I don't understand why they keep denying me coverage.

When my Doc put me on Lipitor my Cholesterol was actually in the normal range, but my good cholesterol was very low and my bad was high. After three years of exercise and better diet it has been perfect for 18 months.

This whole Lipitor thing worries me.
Drug companies are telling us we have to take their drugs even if we eat well and exercise, to keep our cholesterol low.
And keep taking them for the rest of our lives?

Of course, I could be wrong, but it doesn't sound right to me that suddenly almost everyone needs to be taking this drug.

Doesn't it sound just a little bit too much like something the drug companies would think up to boost their profits?

Cheerios is telling people the same thing!
Here's the thing.. are most people eating right and exercising? (No.. they're not)
Could it be a drug scam? Absolutely.. but if people are more willing to take a pill than to hit the gym, the pill will make billions.

The same flame that melts butter tempers steel.

Insurance companies wanna shed losers to the government. The insurance companies know, too, that specific drugs arent good for everyone. Dont you pay attention to the medical disclaimers in the drug ads? DO NOT TAKE PISSONYA IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF RESPIRATION, DEFECTATION, SALIVATION, FORNICATION, OR COOTIES. PISSONYA HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER, DIABETES, IMPOTENCE, GANGRENE, AND STINKY STOOLS.

Get a job that has blanket coverage.. Then without a certificate of credible coverage, you will have 6 to 12 months where they wont cover anything related to it. Pre existing limit.

So yeah, get a job that offers ins

Don't get me started about drug companies.

They want us to take their drugs even if we aren't sick and don't need to be medicated. If we don't take their drugs, they won't make any money.

Health Care reform is fixing denying for pre-existing conditions, effective Jan 1st 2014. For those 19 and under it's already been fixed.

As far as dropping people from coverage when they get sick, that was fixed last year. It doesn't happen anymore.

Did Obama do something to make government jobs more attractive? All I'm seeing his his salary freeze on federal employees. Looks to me like government workers were far better off under the Republicans.

I guess obamacare wasn't all that bad.

Insurance companies will lock away your application indefinitely.

Good Health only comes when you do all of the above. lipitor has been around along time, my doc feels pretty strongly it is a very effective drug for a 48 year old type A personality type guy like me.

I can't really disagree.

200,000 Americans die every year from adverse reactions from pharmaceutical drugs, and millions are injured.

Here, read this horror story about the medical/pharmaceutical establishment.

some people believe the Polio Vaccine is a bad thing for their kids too.

Peoplle should talk to their Pharmacists all the time. Doctor's are health experts, Pharmacists are Drug Experts.

No it wasn't. Those things were part of the reforms.

HIPAA did begin to address pre-existing conditions in the mid 90s. It was not as thorough as the changes in 2010, but certainly addressed the issue for some as it related to obtaining/changing healthcare coverage.
