I did not serve in the USMC, but did serve in the US Army. I should be very much surprised if anyone who had served in any armed service in any country at any time did not notice within the first few days of service that there were gay people serving.

The issue hasn't ever been whether there are gays in the military or whether anyone noticed--the issue has always been about gays remaining in service if outed. The message I read from this cover isn't, "Guess what? There are gays in the military!" but, "We're not hiding, and you can't kick us out just because you don't like our sexual orientation."

A much more important message, I think.
