Lump me in with all the people that look and look for a story yet come up empty. Here is as much as I can remember:

Place: takes place on a cattle or horse ranch with stable hands and guests arriving.
Background of the young lady and how she came to the ranch:

Family run ranch with adult son...lady moves to the ranch after her father commits suicide BUT she believes her father was actually killed b/c he owed A LOT of money to banks and he had a large life insurance that she never got b/c it was listed as a suicide and not a murder. The police said that he killed himself by driving over a bridge near his own ranch. The young lady lost everything since her father owed so much money to other people. The only thing she was able to keep was her prized horse b/c it was in her name, not her fathers.

She arrives at family ranch. The son knows her b/c her father was friends with the family. The son broke his leg when he was a child and is still harboring hatred for the girl (young lady now) that caused it to happen. She did not even remember and balked at his accusations of something that happened when he was a young child.

Anyways, they bicker and over time form a sort of friendship..possibly more. The ranch now has guest arriving and one of the repeat guest is all over the adult son on a cattle herding ride. The young lady see's that the guy is distracted with the female guest and notices that the cattle are heading towards a cliff. She rides her horse as fast as she can to steer the cattle in a different direction and one of the cattle/bull spear her thigh? with a horn and she does not tell anyone. They all settle in tents for the night and her leg is throbbing..it becomes infected, she is semi-unconscious by morning and she is airlifted to the hospital. I think she is unconscious during most of the hospital part. Afterwards she arrives back at the ranch and there is a barn dance for the guests. SHe dances with the owners son and that's about all I remember.

Somewhere in the story the couple tell their son all she has lost in her lifetime and what happened to her father. He starts to feel bad for treating her like crap and starts to be a bit nicer to her. She opens up to him about what she suspects happened to her father (that he was killed, not commit suicide). It turns into a love story yet there is no sex. I think the most that happened was some kissing.

Anyt help is appreciated.

names

Do you remember any of the names in the story. That is the easiet way to search.

I think it's this one, by brightlyiburn:

If not, it's very similar, and she has another one, called Not Just Another Western, that starts here.

Sorry if neither are the one you want. It sounds pretty familiar but I'm drawing some blanks.

^Nope, it's not either of them but I enjoyed both those stories before. I think I might read Seraphim/Asher story again since it was so good.

I'm trying to think of what else happened in this story. I do not remember any names...just that the family at the ranch was in maybe Texas and the young lady's horse ranch was in KY. I think before her father dies, they were trying a breeding program of a certain type of horse that would bring a lot of money in. She lost everything since the bank and other loan offices took everything as payback/collateral. Her story about why she ended up at the other family ranch was just the background story. The main story was how she was trying to fit into the new ranch down south. Her father knew the family and even visited them when the girl was young.

Now that I'm thinking about it there was a scetion where they have to mend some fence posts to prevent the animals from escaping. They argue and finally the young lady had enough and tells the young guy off in so many words. he finally shuts up and later in the day his mother and father tell him the entire story about how she lost her father and that they think there is more to it but she is not talking.

I'm sorry...I only remember bits and pieces and it was one of those stories that ended, sort of but had the possibility for a sequel.

Oh now it's killing me. I'm sure I read that story and all of that sounds familiar but I rarely retain authors or titles from this site... damn. I do remember... the father had died and oh man. Rats. Grrrr.

I remember that story, too, and I can't find it either. Either we all have lackluster search skills, or it was taken down.

Okay, I searched with, "broken leg, ranch, killed, suicide" and came up with one story. It is from 2009 by Zeta515.

No, that's not it. Damn, this is killing me. Not that I've actually searched, mind you. One thing I'm sure of (as much as I can be) is that it would have been in Romance. What I really remember is the antagonistic relationship between the guy and the woman, and then the parents tell the guy (their son) the whole back story and he realizes what an ass he was. But I remember no names, nothing. Damn.

^That's where I'm stuck at. If I only remembered a name.

I do remember that her bedroom was in their house and she did help the lady make the meals for all the ranch hands. The son gave her the cold shoulder at breakfast the first morning in front of all the other men (ranch hands) and she was baffled about how rude he was.

After she was released from the hospital she was in her bedroom and he stayed with her to make sure she did not stand. She was eager to get back on her horse and he would not let her get out of bed to see her horse. I think she did sneak out one time and he was mad at her until he realized that she could not make it back to the house...he carried her back to bed.

I also remember the older lady helping her get ready for the barn dance.

No names though....*sigh*

There was also no sex in it....none at all. It was hinted at in the end that once she was better.....he was helping her change clothes b/c she was weak.

thought sure

I thought sure I had it for you. When I put those key words in the search it was the one and only story that came up. It said it was one story in a series of 3. You might want to look into the other two. I believe the author's name was; Zeta515
You might also look into her other stories.
Or, if you can estimate the time frame in which you read this, you might look for stories submitted around that time in the Romance category.

^I has been a very long time...at least a few years. I really cannot say. I have been searching for it well over a year now and finally decided to post on the forum for help. I should have posted along time ago...*sigh* I thank you for your help.

Different site?

If it was that long ago, could it have been on a different story site?

No, it was this site. I remember it.

If none of us can find it, my bet is that the author removed it. :(

I'm pretty sure it was on this site, as I remember reading it and I don't read too many other sites. Now I'm starting to think the girl's name was Ivy but I'm not sure. I'm also starting to think the story's been removed.

I did search, using ranch and horse and fence and all in Romance -- if nothing else, ranch should have turned it up. I got 96 stories but none were right.

You maybe right

It sounds like you maybe right about it being taken down. I wonder if you wrote to the editor, if they would have any info for you.

It was this site. This is the only site like this that I visit. I assume that the author probably removed it. Thanks so much for searching for it.

I even searched for a thigh wound, cattle horn, thigh infection etc.

You know what always gets to me on these threads, is if someone loved a story that much how they forget the name. I've forgotten the names of countless stories or books that were so-so but never the name of one I really liked.

Then again maybe that's why I can't remember things like my own phone number or what I ate last night. Between random story information, comic book and sports trivia and a shitload of song lyrics there's no more room at the inn.

However judging by the amount of searching going and my own quick attempt, I'm casting my vote for taken down

You've got a point, but for me, I read/skim so many stories that I just can't remember them all. And quite honestly, I have no desire to start a favorites list. I've favorited a few authors, figuring I can find something on their list, but there are a number of individual stories I've read and don't recall titles. Can't do everything.

I don't remember all of the titles of my own stories, let alone anyone elses.

Key word there is skim. I do quite a bit of that and those I may or may not remember. Usually however if a story is good the name will stick. Not always the author but usually the name.

I only have 4 stories on Favorite and a few authors. Some peoples lists however, look like it would easier to list who they did not fav.

I never thought to save this story b/c it was a quick read. I was thinking about stories from the past that I would like to read again and this story popped in my head. It's not a story I thought about after I finished it...it was just a nice, easy read. The more I thought about it, the more I wished I bookmarked it b/c it should have had a sequel which I never followed up on.

I thank everyone that has taken the time to search for it and add to this discussion. :)

Maybe one day I will see it again with a sequel, lol. :D

You never know. I've seen people go back and continue stories after two years of nothing. :)

And I don't write about cowboys, but I've got a couple about hockey players, so you're welcome to read those. ;)

^Ah, I have read all of yours...you are in my bookmark category, lol! Love the story of Anatoli and Sara. I also liked Simon and Connie's story. I wanted to smack her mother, lol.

I have also read the one about *the key* before you pulled it. My favorite is the one with Tyler though. I think it is called Unintended. I read that one many times until you pulled it.
