So in another thread I was joking about how watching Pokemon as a child made me gay- and it got me to thinking...
All to often in the media, if a character is "gay" that's pretty much the main focus of the character. And I realized that one of the reasons that I really did like cartoons like Pokemon and Sailor Moon is because the gay characters on them aren't really "gay" steriotypes so much as they are people who happen to be gay.
For example, Prof. Samual (fast fingers Sammy) Oak from Pokemon. This man is living with a guy who is OBSESSED with him, and it's obviously a gay relationship, whatwith them being 2 guys and all.

Now, in the Pokemon world, no one calls Oak on this, because he's possibly the most famous, brilliant scientist in the world. And by calls him on it, I mean in a negative way; yes people talk about it, but not in the "OMG, that's so gay!" way. The first thing that people think of when thinking of Sammy is the fact that his experiments with Mew DNA created a bunch of pretty awesome critters, not the fact that he's boning an 18-year-old guy well into his 70s. I really like this.
