Hey- look, I'll admit that I'm not up on current events (because they depress me) but I was reading this thread: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=772577 earlier today, wondering how schools were going to get by without mentioning that Leonardo DaVinchi was gay (or keeping people from figuring it out since he was repeatedly arrested for sodomy and it's a big part of his art) and I heard 2 terms I had never heard before. So I was wondering if someone could tell me what the 1:Gay Agenda and 2: Special Rights are, and if I should be working for them or anything. I'm guessing the agenda is to make the world a more accepting place, but I don't know about the rights thing. I know that I could google it, but I am really fucking tired and kinda pissed off right now, so I'm not gonna.

The gay agenda is that having a same sex, sexual partner shouldn't be persecuted (or even prosecuted).

That's what I was thinking...

You know what I want on the gay agenda- I want to not be fired from teaching-since that's probably what I'm gonna wind up doing- for being "the gay". It happens way to much, even though I totally thought that discriminating on the grounds of sexual preference for a government job was, you know, illegal. Can we put that on the agenda? Is it already on there? Is there some gay web site that has all this shit already in process- I've been wondering about that for a long time, like a lobby group or something?

Just for the barest of starts. But please, Candi-- guard your own mental health. This is all brand new to you, I take it-- you were pretty unhappy about everything last night, and taking everything very personally. Well, I know exactly how that feels. And I am sure that you're going to do it regardless-- but try, very hard, to monitor your emotional health. Back off when you have to.

Good Grief Charlie Brown don't have a cow

We been learning about historical figures for years without discussing their sexuality. I know that others think differently but if their orientation had nothing to do with their accomplishment I see no reason to discuss it. But that is just my opinion. I do not care one way or another. Learning that a person in history is gay will not turn children gay. Either you are or you aren't regardless of history.

Gay is not contagious. Honest.

Seriously though, I had a really bad night at work, then I was pissed because I came home to drama. It more upsets me when people try to confuse me. TRY to confuse me. There are a lot of things that I need to guard because of my mental health... I think that a lot of it is just youthfull bullshit where you're catching me as I turn though, and I'll mellow out the more used to it I get. I think the drama will drop off to.

I am kinda passionate about the teaching thing though. It really is illegal to discriminate against people because of sexual orientation, yet it happens ALL THE TIME in the Ky school system. It's so political- and ever since Prop 8, sexuality has suddenly become political here. If there's a group I can join that's already working toward it, one more voice probably won't hurt them if I can teach myself how to sit in the back and listen instead of getting carried away. I think I can learn dignity. I think I can learn to be helpful.

Just wanted to say that I REALLY like the message behind itgetsbetter.org

I really wish I had known about this when I was a teenager

Did you mean to post that in the thread candi linked to?

As for discrimination against GLBT's in the workforce - no it is NOT illegal in MOST states. Very few states have codified anti-GLBT discremination in their state codes. Ans some states (here in Va for example) the ultra-conservatives that run the place have publicly stated that GLBT's are NOT protected. Just check ot our Gov (he got his "law degree" from Pat Robertson) or our wacky atty gen, a hardcore christian fundamentalist from the Man+Womon=Marriage camp.

I teach in a very conservative school system, but I have taught with openly gay teachers in every school where I have worked (and I have been in quite a few). So, discrimination absolutely exists, but there are also areas which you would think would be less accepting that don't discriminate.
