Damn! My sports physiotherapist has advised me to see the back consultant because my a/s (ankylosing spondilitis) has caused significant movement in my spine curvature in the last couple of weeks.

It had moved 1/2 an inch in five years. It moved 3 inches in 2 weeks.

That is not good. :(

gentle hugs, Ogg. hope you are feeling better soon. :rose:

Ow. My left leg hurts from the glute through the calf, my right thigh hurts, my left elbow, my right shoulder... I'm surprised my hair doesn't hurt :(

Well, if your glute is through your calf, I can see why you're hurting so much!

Hope you're feeling less sore soon.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Ogg. :rose:

The PAIN goes through my leg, you silly tit (well that's all I can see of you anyway ;) ).

And I hope I am feeling less sore soon as well :(

I hope Thee's pain goes away.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm not in significant pain (except the normal pain I've lived with for the past 30 years). The movement in my spine is worrying, but not yet painful.

The solutions could well be. The choice is a series of operations that have only a 50/50 chance of improvement; vigorous manipulation by an osteopath that WILL be painful and might make things worse; a course of strong drugs that might be incompatible with my existing medication; or hanging upside down like a bat for several hours a day.

I don't like the idea of emulating a bat.

Thank you Ogg, and I hope your situation doesn't get worse. Your stories of age always make my hurt hurt less, while making me hurt more on the inside from reading the things wrong with you... Wait, wasn't I going for empathy here?

I'm on Day Two of the in-law visit, and I'm already looking for ways to escape. Usually I hole myself up in the kitchen and cook elaborate meals, but it's a bit hot for that at the moment.

Maybe I'll scrub the bathtubs? Or organize the closets? Hmmm.

Now we're talking real pain!

I'll be hornswoggled.

On a lark, I wore a pedometer for this morning's tennis match. It says that in 2½ hours of play covering four sets, I took 13,637 steps or the equivalent of 6½ miles. In 92° (F) weather, it's no surprise that I was drenched.

In the afternoon, I got in 45 minutes of swimming laps, alternating between a crawl and a breaststroke.

I'll sleep like a log tonight.

I'm sick to death of being lonely. I need to find a cure. The one I've been trying isn't working. Not by a long shot. :(

And my back started hurting while I was in bed last night... Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck FUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKCKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!! I hate htis this fuck fuck fuck fuck.,...

Unaesthetic seaside sights

Women over 70 should not wear white translucent daisy dukes, especially over black granny-knickers that don't conceal the protruding bones.

Men and/or women who are more than 50 inches around the waist should not wear black lycra cycling shorts, especially if their waist measurement is greater than their height.

People who have several large rolls of fat around their middle should not expose that fat by wearing short, or no, tops. And please! No bikinis!

Women who are well-endowed up top, and over a certain age, look better with support instead of drooping in a strapless top.

Manboobs are best covered, not flaunted.

Having said all that, most people passing-by are aesthetic in appearance. It is the contrast that is unappealing.

I can only assume which category from above that you fall into.;) I appreciate a well-dressed man.:)

Most of the time I'm not particularly well-dressed. I live in jeans and open-necked shirts. However I do own several suits including morning (with the grey topper, of course) and evening ones when I attend formal events.

But I do not like exposing my bodily imperfections. When I swim in the sea I usually wear swim shorts and T-shirt.

Saw Cowboys and Aliens today. Fun enough movie. I liked all of the characters in it, and the action was convincing enough. There were a couple of things I didn't get along with though. I am sick of naked aliens, and I don't care for the one plot point when they meet the Indians and the fire and stuff. I would have revealed that part differently. But otherwise worth watching on the big screen. It takes full use of the size with its visuals.

why am I cold? it's freakin July for Pete's sake. that's it. getting the fuzzy slippers. maybe I just need to snuggle and cuddle.

But it's July in the Australian winter. Here, today, temperatures are in the mid 20s with the sun shining on the bluish sea.

Have a hug to keep you warm.

Why have I got three copies of Beowulf, five copies of the Iliad, four of the Odyssey; two of the Aeneid; and three copies of Podkayne of Mars in my library?

I think it is time for a sort out.

Different translations?

Pope's Illiad/Odyssey is very different from that of, say, Fagles.
