Dan Peek, founding member of the band America has died. You kids probably won't remember the band America but "A Horse With No Name", was just one of their memorable hits. They were kind of stuck between folk music and soft rock/pop/fusion. Wonderful melodies and harmonies, an acoustic sound current for the times and songs you loved to sing along with.

I'll always remember when I was much younger, when a couple friends and I went on a trip to the Mardi Gras. America was putting on a free concert at Loyola University. It turned out to be one of those perfect and intimate venues for a perfect concert. I'll always remember that night as one of my favorites.

When your idols from your youth start dying off...you know you're getting old. He was only 60 years old. That's just 2 years older than I am. He's gone too soon and it's a great loss to the world of music.

I remember America, and A Horse with No Name, and others. Peek was four weeks shy of being a year younger than I am, yet his voice is silenced. :(

I have stuff from America on my iTunes. Admittedly, its the soundtrack from "The Last Unicorn" but it counts, right?

Too young to leave us......America was a good band!!!

Firefall and Pure Prairie League were other 3-part harmony bands from that era......they are had pleasant lyrics and great acoustic guitars.

Good memories from that era.

Oh, don't forget Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Lonely People

This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
And ride that highway in the sky

This is for all the single people
Thinking that love has left them dry
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
You never know until you try

Well, I'm on my way
Yes, I'm back to stay
Well, I'm on my way back home (Hit it)

This is for all the lonely people
Thinking that life has passed them by
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
And never take you down or never give you up
You never know until you try

eta: DVS! You beat me to it!

Dan Peek Testimony Sorry. I guess I should have known there would be religious context with the word testimony in it. This interview must have been from a religious show of some sort. Oh, well...
