I am new to the site and joined because I have really enjoyed reading the stories. I have several fantasies I would like to share.

Any advice on do's and don’ts?

Start writing. Choose a usage guide, Either Strunk & White, or Chicago Manual of Style, and trust it and stick to it. If you want women to enjoy your work, keep some context going along with the sex. If you want to impress male readers, have your female characters show up naked carrying beer.

Thank you, Stella. I now realise what I have been doing wrong. Would it be too much to have female characters show up carrying beer and a pizza?

Silly, that's why it's best to have two naked women show up: one with beer, and one with pizza.

Don't post any stories in Loving Wives unless you read a lot of stories there and totally understand the nature of such stories and the audience that reads them and the kind of responses you'll get. Seriously. New writers go there and then come here disheveled and molested and ask, 'What was that all about?"

Actually, know your audience is generally good advice as you're not just going to write up your fantasy but, we assume, share it with others. It's a good idea to do a little reconnasance and know where it will be appreciated. Which means you should read stories in whatever category interests you and find out if that's really where your fantasies belong and will be appreciated, or if you're actually writing for a different audience than you thought.

Also, get find yourself a good, online, erotic thesaurus so you have plenty of words to describe anatomical parts and the sex act itself

Thanks 3113 , Great advise!!!

Welcome to Lit and the AH. :D

Write what you know and/or enjoy, don't be reticent about asking questions ... we were all new here once, find an editor you can work with effectively, use spell and grammar check on your word processor program, express your character's emotions as well as delineating the physical act in detail, refrain from using body and sexual organ measurements, develop your characters to the extent that the story requires and do not be concerned with story length ... if the readers are interested, they will read to the end.

Happy writing.

Small, technical things....

However tempted you are to write in 2nd person ("You touch me and I shiver....")...don't, not unless nothing else will do for the story. You'll see a plenty of stories in 2nd person on this site, but readers aren't that fond of it and few writers can do it well.

Also, leave out measurements (His 13" cock penetrated me/he fondled her 38DD breasts). All that does is make the reader wonder if the character had a measuring tape on hand for the cock--or paused in unhooking the bra to check out the size label :D

You are so right.

I think I have a ways to go before I post anything. I love all the information that everyone is sharing, it is giving me a new perspective on how to proceed.

Stella you didn't specify how much beer - it's important.

Hi, You, and welcome to Literotica and the AH. :)

Unless you have written a lot of erotica or dirty stories, you should probably start in the Erotic Coupling category, which is just stories about men and women having sexual fun together. Or, depending on your own sexual orientation, perhaps Gay Male or Lesbian. From there, you might branch into Anal, but beware of the readers. They are very demanding in this category.

Personally, I like to write in Loving Wives, but I have been here a long time and have written literally millions of words of smut and have developed a thick skin. I actually derive amusement from some of the rants in LW.

Welcome to the lunatic asylum, where the inmates have taken over. Best advice is to find the best writers in the category where you want to write and read them--not with a view to imitation, that rarely if ever works; but with a view to seeing what they do and how.

For example, if you're a Romance writer, read every last comma MugsyB and SA Penn Lady ever wrote. And follow with a Sydney Blake chaser How to Save a Life.

If you're into BDSM, read grandmaster dweaver999's Valerie series, Death of a Master, and Stranger Than Truth--at least four times each.

I'm sure other readers and authors have their own favorites, and will be happy to tell you about them.

But most importantly, tell your own stories. The best way you know how.

And stand by to repel trolls.
