Air temp 101.9, wind out of the west at 1 mph, heat index of 121, and not a cloud in the sky. The humidity is down to 49%.

Worst heat wave in years grips Midwest

I'm told the effects can be felt as far north as Canada. I wonder how they're taking it, eh?

As for Canada, according to a couple of friends of mine in Toronto, it's pretty miserable. I'm outside of Philly and their temps are higher, although I'm in a suburb, which I figure accounts for the differences. But it doesn't sound fun anywhere.

I've a friend about a hundred miles from Canada. He has trouble with his lungs and cannot go out in it. He says it's the worst he can remember.

I'm not loving the heat in my part of the south.

Worse, we just got back from vacation to find an army of ants had invaded our house in search of water while we were gone. They are all over our sinks and toilets, and we found a pile of them dead in the dishwasher after we ran it. So, so gross.

It just hit 103 and the wind is from the north again. :p

Blech. Get out the bleach.

LfT -- oh ick. That is gross. I recommend a product called "Amdro." We used it around our house and had great luck with ridding ourselves of ants.

I just went to the grocery store and while the humidity isn't that bad right now, it's frakking hot and the wind doesn't help. Doesn't cool anything, just reminds you that heat moves.

I'm experiencing a cool wet summer. The outside temperature is 15 C, the rain is beating on the windows, and the sea is covered in white horses.

I'm hoping that, like fruit flies, we can get rid of them with a combination of cider vinegar and soap. I also put down some peppermint essential oil, which they normally hate. If that doesn't work, I'll whip out the big guns.

Seriously. We've been watching the Tour de France coverage and salivating over all the rain.

Just broke a recorded record of 97 here in the Detroit area. Last I heard (and also from my weather thingy on my browser) it was 98 with a heat index of 102. Predicted: 101 with a heat index of 109.

Got sent home early from work today because the electricity kept going off. The factory I work in has a generator but with the exception of the offices, there's no air conditioning. There are, however, air conditioning units in the test booths, but those aren't working all that well in this heat. When I left work at 1:45p.m. it was 102 in the shop and 96 outside.

In any case, the generator obviously wasn't powerful enough to keep things going with all the fans and a/c units and the air compressors (I work at a factory that manufactures air valves) because the electricity would come on for about 15 minutes, then go off again. After about an hour, they finally sent us home.

I hope everyone's staying cool or at the very least getting plenty of water to drink.

A little cooler today than yesterday on this side of the state. We have 91 degrees with a heat index of 98. Prediction was for 96 degrees though. There's a slight breeze at 10 mph but we are still under an excessive heat warning.

Canada is a big place. In my neck of the woods the weather has been cool, rainy and generally miserable. Rivers are flooding, roads are being washed out and, damn it!, some heat and blue skies would be a nice change.

We are having a very pleasant day . . .

Bite me.

I'll send you a little of mine if you send some of yours. There has to be a happy place somewhere in between.

96 degrees 34% humidity, a normal day in the subtropics of south Texas.

I remember in my youth, living in Chicago and in July it being 100 degrees out one year and the next July it snowing. That was back in the 70's though when an ice age was barring down upon us.

We're down to 100.5 now with no breeze at all. And I have a house full of screaming girlies. If I had a pool, I could kick them outside. Sigh.

Send them outside and put up the lawn sprinkler. Uses less water, cost less and allows for even more delighted screaming . . . on the other side of the door!

It's too hot and oppressive even for that. The grass is hot to the touch.

I'd believe you -- it's much the same here. The only good thing about this weather is we're saving on lawn mowing costs. But yeah, I won't send my kids out. We have a pool membership and I don't want to go, and I love pools! But it's just too hot to be there in the direct sun.

It's down to 90.6 in town, but out here it's a comfy 82. A lot more asphalt in town. It's still radiating heat. Out here at the homestead it's all green. Everything is still green and growing, thanks to all the copious rain of the previous weeks, but if the heat doesn't break soon, the grass will start to burn up. Looks like it's supossed to last thru Saturday night.

It's 83F here now, but the humidity makes it feel like 91F. We hit 95F today, and the 3 day forecast has us in the high 80's-mid 90's for the period. The humidity is what gets you. With that factored in, a temp of 90F+ feels like 100F+. Ugh. Thank the gods for central A/C. :D
