What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Today In History: July 14, 2009, Obama Took Ownership Of The Economy…

And things have only gone downhill since then.

“My administration has a job to do as well, and that job is to get this economy back on its feet — that’s my job. And it’s a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, ‘Well this is Obama’s economy’ — that’s fine — GIVE IT TO ME. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and carp and gripe. So . . . so I welcome the job. I want the responsibility.” — President Obama, July 14, 2009

I TOLD YOU SO: Last week’s unemployment number revised upwards “from 418K to a whopping 427K.” Keep that in mind when looking at this week’s number of 405K, described here as “probably totally bogus.” There’s probably some good news in spite of the bogosity, but watch for another upward revision next week. That seems to be the pattern.

Is anyone listening to the notorious liar Harry Reid? Why wasn't he thinking about cutting spending while he was spending us into oblivion?

We probably shouldn't have listened to Bush say Iraq was going to cost 80 billion dollars total. Now we're looking at 2 trillion in spending for that sucker. But keep ignoring 2 Trillion in order to insist that 550 billion + 250 billion in tax cuts is a higher number than 2 Trillion.

No Iraq war and no Bush tax cuts and our debt would have been around 11 trillion right not instead of 14+ trillion and we wouldn't be having this debt ceiling crisis.

When did he say that.

Here's a transcript of Dick Cheney acknowledging it would cost $80 billion on Meet the Press: http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/bush/cheneymeetthepress.htm

WASHINGTON — At the outset of the Iraq war, the Bush administration predicted that it would cost $50 billion to $60 billion to oust Saddam Hussein, restore order and install a new government. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/19/washington/19cost.html

Reality:

According to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report published in October 2007, the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost taxpayers a total of $2.4 trillion dollars by 2017 when counting the huge interest costs because combat is being financed with borrowed money. The CBO estimated that of the $2.4 trillion long-term price tag for the war, about $1.9 trillion of that would be spent on Iraq, or $6,300 per U.S. citizen

Republicans missed the boat on the cost of the Iraq war by about... the entire cost of the Iraq war. The stimulus is tiny in comparison to this flub.

Why the FUCK DO YOU LIE????????????

He never said so at all

FUCKING LIAR!

MR. RUSSERT: Every analysis said this war itself would cost about $80 billion, recovery of Baghdad, perhaps of Iraq, about $10 billion per year. We should expect as American citizens that this would cost at least $100 billion for a two-year involvement.

VICE PRES. CHENEY: I can’t say that, Tim. There are estimates out there.

FUCKING LYING SCUMBAG!

Here we go, Bush himself on March 23, 2003 giving a briefing to congress saying the Iraq war would cost $75 billion, or about 2.7% of what it really cost:

I see Russert making the estimate:

Show me where Bush or Cheney verified his figures.

You'd be raking Obama's ass through the coals if he predicted something would cost $75 billion and it ended up pushing $3 trillion. It would be armageddon for you. But oh wait, Republicans get a pass, don't they?
