My wife and I have an open marriage...we started this last August, and we have not technically been in the same room with each other during sex. My wife and I keep everything out in the open...I have no jealousy issues, as long as I am know who the guy is, they are safe, treat her respectfully, and don't mind me enjoying the charms of their significant others in turn. *chuckles*

The one FWB couple we play with, my wife is with the hubby in one room, while I'm with his wife in another. Kinda hoping someday we can pull off a foursome scenario, but we shall see.

There was one party up at their place once where things got a little wild once....plenty of drinks to go around, and both the wife and I got a bit drunk and acted a bit out of character. It was definitely an adventure.

My wife took on three guys in turn, and had been with another guy shortly before that. Meanwhile, I ended up having sex with a lady I had never met before that night. (Her hubby was one of the three down with my wife.) How did you get into the Open relationship idea? If I may: Is there a stereotypical age or age of a relationship that all of us start getting the "7 year itch"?

At first I thought it sounded great. I travel the globe for a living, neither of us are jealous people. When I first breached the subject I was somewhat surprised to find that she wasn't totally anti. Then a few weeks back the subject was breached again, this time by her. So then it actually became a reality that my gorgeous loving wife might want to fuck someone else or even more that she actually had people in mind. None are local so it's not like it could happen tomorrow without me knowing and I don't think she would go behind my back. In fantasy it sounded great, but in reality?? I don't know, there truly is nothing worth ruining our relationship over IF things didn't go the way we planned.

So after I say we are not jealous, obviously I have a bit of jealousy going on. Quite confused on this subject. Not looking for a double standard, but just hmmmm. I like a lot of the stories, I read a lot of the stories. But reality is a loooooooong way from fantasy.

Hope this isn't considered hijacking of a thread.

Not trying to hijack the thread either, so I'll just respond this one time to answer your question, and then try to keep quiet.

It was kind of a mutual decision we had discussed. We've been married for 10 years, and together for a few years before that...I was 39 when this started and she was 32, and we're coming up on a year ago we started this. When the wife and I met and first started dating, we were both virgins, so the curiosity of what it'd be like being with another person was always there.

I think the catalyst that started the whole thing for us, is my wife had cheated on me....we went through a rough patch where I thought the marriage was going to end. While talking things through, I made the comment that I wasn't really mad about the sex itself, as I had been curious about what it'd be like with another lady myself, but never acted on it...but I WAS furious that she had been sneaking around and lying to me.

This went on for a few weeks, where we kind of walked around very gingerly around each other, and the next time we sat down and discussed it, and I repeated that point, she responded, "So, if it wasn't about the sex, and you've been curious too, maybe I should let you be with someone else too." I didn't take her up on it right away, not wanting to condone what she had done, but I sat down and really thought about things. I asked her why she had cheated, and she said pretty much the same thing that had been on my mind...that it had been more of a curiosity thing than anything else. I understood that, so I basically said, "Let's get rid of the curiosity for both of us then..."

We set up ground rules, once we decided to try this, as we knew that this was going to either bring us closer together, or end us totally. In the end, we were lucky...I think it ended up saving our marriage. We don't keep secrets anymore, our sex lives' with each other has improved, we are more willing to talk things through...it made us stronger. Plus, those times we meet with other people have brought an extra bit of spark and spice to our sex lives too. ;)

Unfortunately it did not happen again last night with our caller. Having said that the night was certainly not a washout!! Or this morning for that matter lol.

We have the strength in our relationship to see that the additional person is not the basis of our relationship but just an added bonus if it happens.

Sometimes it is just the anticipation of it maybe happening.

I think a big portion, is I'm pretty much a nympho. I have been (blessed?) to have had a LOT of fun growing up and in college with various partners in various situations and even a couple 3sums. Nothing like the movies which would be great, but nonetheless I had a lot of fun.

The wife on the other hand, hasn't had that experienced of a past. We started dating her senior year of college, so I totally see her curiosity. I have been and am totally confident in our relationship but also, IF this went the wrong way, and she fell in love with someone else, I'd be crushed. I guess I'm looking at it from the standpoint of typically us guys are literally in it for the sex. Women want more, like some romance, some "preheating", then..... And their orgasms are much more emotional than ours. So I guess it's not so much jealousy as maybe insecurity? We have a decent sex life. We've been together almost 10 years married for I think half that :) So it has become mundane, the usual spot, the usual positions, the usual toys. I'd love to change it up, but it's also a woman's mindset (in many instances) that they have to be doing 10 things at once.

I don't know, look forward to reading this board and seeing what else people have to say.

I would love it to happen again, she bartends and is always teasing and flirting but hasn’t gone further since we’ve been married. Prior to being married we were in a very open relationship and while I was young and jealous now I regret it because I think that is why she won’t go any further.

Mind you I had no issues when I was sleeping with other women. I guess older does equal wiser.
 
Yes. She had sex with several men in college before we were married, but we were dating at the time. I knew she could have sex as a physical act with no romance or commitment, so I gave her permission to have fun. She did it a few times, and I enjoyed hearing about it. That was years ago, and it worked fine for us.
