I know there's needle play...but what about acupuncture as part of BDSM? I'm just curious if it comes up, if it has a role, etc.

Needle play I've done. Acupuncture I have not. I'm looking forward to hearing from those that have!

Certain acupuncture techniques, like gua sha and cupping, have found there way into BDSM because they leave such interesting marks on the skin.

I have only ever experienced acupuncture as a treatment modality though. There's virtually no pain, and wonderful benefits to your health. :D

I'd also be curious how people would use acupuncture in this context.

the one time I did acupuncture I got a raging hardon...

in a purely psychic sense, of course. But damn! You know how sometimes your dick feels bigger than usual?

Yes. This is true for me, too. :D It's the release and flow of all that stagnant energy.

(I've been wondering if and how anyone with knowledge of this has ever used it as a PYL.)

*muse* I don't see why you couldn't. I mean, I doubt it'd have quite the same effect as needle play, as, theoretically, you're supposed to barely feel the needles themselves. I can't say for sure, of course, since I haven't had the opportunity to actually try acupuncture yet (as I am a poor college student and have to resort to self-applied acupressure :p). I'd imagine that, as noted above, the changes in energy flow could be used, though. I have no doubt that someone out there could use it in some manner.

I am a huge fan of and regularly receive acupuncture treatments and I have pretty much always had an overall needle fixation. I have definitely been transfixed and turned on by watching and feeling the needles sliding into my skin, be it an iv, a shot, or acupuncture. I have never really played with it with a partner though, so I can't speak much on that aspect of it.

That said, acupuncture, as I understand it, is all about removing blockages in the body and I know that for me when my body is not flowing as it should it definitely effects my sex drive and overall wellbeing. It would make sense to me that it might have the capacity to augment or change things in the body that could heighten the experience of BDSM play. But I don't know that it would be something I could let an amateur play with "just for fun", as they would have to be very experienced before I would be comfortable. It has a powerful effect on the body and you want to have fun, but you don't want to actually cause long term illness or harm. The idea of it seems incredibly hot, but in reality acupuncture requires a calm body, so I don't know how effective it might be "in play" with the brain chemistry square dance kicking off. But then again, maybe that would be the point... to use the push and pull of maintaining or enforcing a calm and flow and where it could lead the body and the mind. If done responsibly, it sounds like it could be quite delicious indeed.

As a side thought, I have actually often wondered if it could be helpful for people that experience sub drop which seems to me to be a significant dis-ease in the flow of the body's feel good endorphins. I know that it is used for all sorts of mood disorders... depression, OCD, anxiety, PTSD, etc... I would love to hear from anyone that has actually used it as treatment as part of their aftercare. Has anyone here ever used it for that?

This is an interesting topic for me Teknight, thank you! :)

That's actually a very good point, Cur...one would have to make sure that the acupuncturist was knowledgeable. It's not too difficult to mess up a body's energy flow...
