What Are Little Boys Made Of?

When Rekers refused to return CNN’s calls, they went to Florida to track him down. The psychologist and ordained Southern Baptist minister said he had no idea that Murphy had committed suicide.

Dr. George Rekers was a founding member of the Family Research Council (Advancing Faith, Family and Freedom), a board member of NARTH (National Association for Research and therapy of Homosexuality), a three decade champion of the anti-gay movement and...it all came to an end last year after he hired a gay rent-boy to accompany him on a trip to Europe.

Rekers denies being gay, saying that he only hired the rent-boy to "carry his luggage."

Yup,yup,yup...

Lucien, the gay escort that Rekers hired through the website Rentboy.com., a website that exists solely to aid gay men in finding sex partners for gay sex, certainly looks like a mere luggage carrier.

"Rekers is now responding to inquiries from reporters with a new fabricated tail; he found his "recent travel assistant" by "interviewing acquaintances."

Rekers pointed out that Jesus spent a lot of time with prostitutes. And Rekers says he did not just pay his young male prostitute friend to lift luggage:
If you talk with my travel assistant you will find I spent a great deal of time sharing scientific information with Lucien on the desirability of abandoning homosexual intercourse, and I shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with him in great detail.

The male escort hired by anti-gay activist Dr. George Alan Rekers, told Miami New Times, the Baptist minister is a homosexual who paid him to provide body rubs once a day in the nude, during their ten-day vacation in Europe.

The male escort said that Reker’s favorite maneuver was the "long stroke,” a complicated caress across his penis, thigh to his anus over the butt cheeks. As the escort puts it, "Rekers liked to be rubbed down there.""

"Righteous Cock! I've mostly ignored the whole Dr. George Rekers gay sex scandal because, honestly, what's the point? Yet another gay-hating public figure has been caught with his penis in a place he's advocated it doesn't belong... am I supposed to be shocked? As I've said the last couple times this has happened, I just automatically assume that anybody who would spend most of their time fighting so hard against "teh gay" is most likely a big ol' cock-loving hypocrite. Religious leaders. Politicians. Christian ministers who say homosexuality is a mental disorder to be cured. It's all the same. But I got a comment asking me to add Rekers to the list, so here he is..."

I looked up NARTH's webpage and guess what? Dr. George Rekers is no longer a board member! I guess NARTH figures that Rekers is just too gay to be cured!!

JL's first link is an unusually in depth analysis of the story. Thank you for that one, Jack Louis

I thought of you, Sweetness, when I read it. :)
I'm sure you did. It doesn't remind me of myself one iota though-- My family never abused me as a consequence of my identity, something I am eternally grateful for.

The element that gives us hope of course, is, as boxturtle notes, that Reker found himself and his beliefs more and more at odds with medical establishment until he's pretty much left off practicing. Now if only he would go sit on a flaming hot oven or something.

Psychiatry could be incredibly abusive in the sixties and seventies, from what I've heard. My male partner and his ex-wife underwent some therapy back in the 70's before I ever met him-- the guy's name was Gene Landy, and damn. Some of his worst habits are a result of training he got from Landy-- and in times of stress when I've suggested counseling or therapy, he says: "No, I did that, I'm JUST FINE."

Yeah, with a schmuck and a charlatan, he did that.

That's what I thought you'd say. It is a good case study and shows what the careers of 'respected' practitioners can accomplish when they are dabbling in things they do not understand, in order to advance themselves.
