I finally managed to get my first story submitted after two previous rejections. For those of you that missed some of the fine print, the rejections were as follows:

1. There were 2 punctuation errors near quotations well into the 5,500 word story (rejection merely stated that there were punctuation errors with quoted dialog).
2. I was using dashes to separate parts of the story and used too many characters (limit of 30) strung together (found on reject 2). Also, I made a simple request to have one word italicized--should have just used html.

I found that it was easier to cut and paste the story than it was to upload it from Word. I tried saving the doc in several different versions, but it wouldn't take.

Anyhow, I'm proud to be among the ranks of the published and hope that I won't be judged too harshly--though some of the commentary already has.

Congratulations. And thanks for giving an indication of what gave you troubles before.

Do I hear an echo in here on cutting/pasting into the submissions box being the "just keep it simple and effective" answer to posting?

Congratulations from me as well. I also cut and paste into the submission box. It's easier. The limitation, for me, is that I can't put italics in that way. I started using them for "thoughts". I had to rethink my writing.

Welcome.

Having successfully negotiated the technicalities, may you now enjoy the satisfaction of some positive reader response.

Cheers, Sam

Sure you can. Just put <i> to open them and </i> to close them.

Way to go! I tried posting my first story three times also back in 2005. Now 200+ STORIES later I'm having much better luck.
