If you follow this link: http://www.press.uchicago.edu/books/freeEbook.html

It will take you to a free ebook from University of Chicago press. I thought this might be of interest to some Lit authors. The title is The Lavender Scare: The Cold War Persecution of Gays and Lesbians in the Federal Government.

I should mention that this is readable with Adobe Digital Editions, and so not for the Kindle. Which is a bummer since I have one. However, I think you can read it with the Kobo and probably other e-readers.

Thank you for the link!

Stella, you're welcome. They have a different e-book free every month and you can sign up for the notification. The previous one was called "Chasing Science at Sea" (for some reason, I have an interest in things aquatic).

Like tentacles? :D

Sorry, I couldn't resist. They seem to be slithering into every other thread (which I don't necessarily mind), so I thought I'd be the one to bring them up here.

LOL

Strangely, my favorite critters are cephalopods -- squids, octopuses, cuttlefish and nautiluses. You want tentacles? Check out a nautilus. They have like ninety of them.

Stella, this is for you: http://www.manandmollusc.net/Shell_photos/Images/nautilus.jpg :)

For the record, I'm also interested in other critters, and in the ocean itself -- currents, etc. I've long wanted to do some sort of water-centered story and have an sf one started, but time is always a factor. Also considered some sort of aquatic were story but no plot has come to me yet. Perhaps later.

I would have loved that one. :D

Seriously, part of the reason I like tentacles is because I am fascinated with molluscs-- octopuses are absolutely brilliant critters, and the tragedy is that they have such short lives.
