Hello all, I'm trying to start up a fantasy themed thread, you know, elves and magic and all that stuff. If you're interested at all just post here or send me a PM to express your intrest untill I get all the details hammered out and we can start the thread. Idealy I'm looking for about 7 players tops (making 8 with myself included) or a roughly equal gender ratio so people dont get left out of the fun, but if there is enough quality applicants then it could go as high as 10.

In the meantime, heres a breif intro to the game world.

*********************************************************************************

Airships, a technological marvel from a long forgotten age, for the longest time they were believed to be mere myth, but that fact was proven wrong when the great ships began to swim amongst the clouds once again. They quickly became tools, then playthings of the wealthy, and then finally, weapons of war, a war that would last two generations and cover the known land in blood and fire.

It wasn’t until there was almost nobody left to fight that a truce was struck, one of the stipulations of it was for all airship knowledge to be shared freely between the nations of the world. This led to airships stronger, faster and more durable than ever, one of the first things to be done was an unprecedented expedition, a single ship, designed for extended flight, set out across the sea of blood, a vast sea filled with beasts and monsters that would chill a man’s bones with their very sight. Nobody ever expected to see it again.

But against what everyone expected, it returned successful in its task to find forgotten lands, immediately a flotilla of ships set out for this new land, apparently a place called Rainia, an ancient land often referenced by old tomes of forgotten history.

It’s been a generation since the ship first returned, and ever since Rainia has been the talk of every ambitious youth and eager adventurer that dared to dream of excitement in a land that had only just finished rebuilding from the last long war. However up until now, such airship travel has been so slow and costly that none but the most wealthy of the people could afford passage to Rainia, recent changes to airship design and manufacture change that though, now anyone with enough determination can make it to the new land and chase whatever dream they please.

PLAYER: Avellan13

NAME: Evendur Nathandem Nemetsk

AGE: 19

RACE: Human Werewolf

APPEARANCE
->HUMAN FORM: 5'11" and 156 lb. Evendur has a thin, gangly appearence, common among most spellcasters, but he does have some muscle, just not a lot. Has straight black hair about 1" long in length. Light blue eyes. Pale skin.
->WOLF FORM: Looks like a normal wolf, with dark grey fur, except for bigger, able to stand on two feet, and has blood red eyes.

CLASS: Sorcerer

SPELLS: Magic Missile, Detect Magic, Scorching Ray, Mending, Ray of Frost, Acid Splash, Mage Armor, Shield, Anti-magic Field, Wall of Fire, Animate Dead, Haste, Cone of Cold, Fire Ball

SKILLS: Control Shape Concentration, Spell Craft, Knowledge (Arcane), Bluff, Survival, Craft (Alchemy)

PERSONALITY: Aloof and reserved, Evendur likes to keep to himself. Due to his affliction, he tries to keep away from people. Spellcasting is his passion and the one thing that makes him happy. He like to take every advantage against an enemy during a fight. He`s also considered brooding and dull.

HISTORY: Evendur was raised on a small farm, in the isolated village of Anturn. It was a plain, simple existance where everything was in it`s place. the people were friendly, families were caring, and all was secure.. or so they thought.
One night, a pack of werewolves attacked the villiage, and everyone in it. The villagers were killed without much of a fight. Evendur, a only a child of 8, couldn't do much, but that didn't stop him from fending off the lycanthropes. On of them bit Evendur, then hit him with enough force to knock him into a pile of hay, where he fell unconscience. When he awoke, he found the town in ruins.
Several days later, after trying to survive off what remained from his family's farm, he underwent the change, and became a werewolf.From then on, Evendur has done his best trying to live with his affliction and a journey to the new world may just be his answer.

EQUIPMENT: Backpack, Rations, Bedroll, Bandoleer, Money, Shortspear, Torch, Acid, Antitoxin, Alchemist's Fire, Flint and Steel, Chess Board, Deck of Cards.

OTHER: Since he's an afflicted lycanthropy, he can't pass on the disease, only natural lycanthropes can.

Player: Katamari Roller
Name: Daylle Ostragard
Class/profession: Fighter/Rogue (more the former than the latter)
Race: Human
Appearence: Blonde hair, green eyes, fair skin.
Age: 21

Equipment: Steel sword and targe (mid-level magical protection on the targe), Belt of Lightness (makes the wearer weigh half as much as she normally would), Brooch of Illumination (makes the wearer emit a faint light, good enough to move around in a dungeon without walking into a pit, although running into one is a different matter), lockpicks set, anti-magic wards of different kinds.

Skills: Fighting, dungeoneering (navigation and general tips, but not disarming traps), acrobatics (not combat acrobatics because that´s silly), fairly deep knowledge of magic.

Personality: Open, friendly, playful, can´t take anything that´s not fighting seriously.

History: The city of Gratia has been, for a long time, an independent state ruled by a senate of wealthy citizens chosen by the people. Over the course of centuries, it has fought back any attempt to annex it to kingdoms and empires that seeked to subjugate the city and with it, the rich lands lying in the valley it defends. It is positioned right at the entrance of the Valley of Locharne, so to invade the valley one must first go through Gratia. And no army has managed to breach its walls, except the one time when wizards were involved. After this close call, and lacking wizards of their own, Gratia started hiring sorcerers of all kinds as mercenaries not only to provide magical defences, but to form a corp of regular troops, armed with knowledge and items to fight back against such enemies.

Daylle Ostragard is a member of the White Corps. A young, somewhat empty-headed but very enthusiast warrior, Daylle volunteered to travel to the new continent to study the new forms of magic that may be found there so that countermeasures may be created. She is not very clever or diplomatic, but Gratia does not need diplomacy and underhandedness in the new world. Quite the contrary, the more Daylle fights and learns, the better.

Player: Master_Kain

Name: Jared of the Shabat-ha (Gargant)

Appearance: (Working on finding a suitable picture)
6'5"
400 lbs (all muscle)
Broad shoulders
Heavily muscled frame (freakishly muscled by somes standards)
Hair color: White
Eye Color:
Skin Color: Golden Tan

Class/profession: Warrior / Scout (More warrior)

Race: Marat

Race description:
All have white hair, At the age of puberty they bond to a creature gaining an empathic link with that creature this bond and the creature they call Chala. They have a naturally higher body temperature which if someone did not know they would feel like they have a mild to severe fever, this body temperature allowing them to handle a larger temperate range than most humans with less clothing as most marat only where a loin cloth once bonded (men and women).

Age: 21

Equipment:
Strength bow (very heavy bow weighing 10 lbs, due to its thickness it requires someone of great strength to draw back, and special arrows that will not burst from the snap of the string. Rarely having less than 20 such arrows in his quiver at a time.)
Short sword
Large shield
Breastplate
Short spear
Gargant Sadle (Woven course blanket with a coiled rope ladder made into it.)
Backpack (filled with common equipment)
Saddle bags (Filled with common equipment)
(common equipment means stuff like: rope, whetstone, rations, flint and steel, extra clothes, small tools, and also tools needed to craft new bows and arrows)

Skills:
Bowyer/Fletcher
Tracker
Woodsmans (fire building, and other such useful skills of surviving in the wilderness)

Powers:
Earth Fury Crafting (Can control a spirit of the earth when touching earth. Also allowing him to draw on the strength of the earth to enhance his own strength several times over.)
Wood Fury Crafting (Can control a spirit of plants that can hide him in natural settings as well as enhancing his abilities with wooden weapons such as bows)

Other:
Most Marat (Including Jared) Worship a being they call the One. The tribes dont do anything as a whole or wage war without the blessing on the One. They have there own language but speak the trade language (Human) as well. Though they have problems with words that have many meanings such a the word lie. (They only understand this word to me laying down, not telling a flasehood.)

Personality:
Normally a rather quiet person watching and observing people. Though he will speak up if there is something worth saying. Not one to be rude if someone wishes to talk with him he will talk.

History:
Lived among a small tribe of Marat most of his life upon going through puberty he bonded to a Gargant (Large lizard used for hauling and sometimes battle, herbivore). For the next year he lived among the gargants watching and learning everything about the creatures habits and needs as is the custom of his people. Like all marats he starts to change after puberty to be more like his Chala. Thus like all bonded to a gargant he has grown tall and broad, heavily muscled many believe them to be simple brutes upon looking at them. Though its actually case by case.

Upon his eighteenth birth day he decided to join the military of his country of Alera. As a whole they still fight in an old fashion legion form though they have a few more tricks sense all of their people are Fury Crafters of some kind or another. He spend three years in the military drilling and honing his skills in battle though they focused on group fighting and watching your buddies and trusting them to watch you making a living wall of shields and swords. His skills in a duel are a little lacking but not non-existant as his own people often duel and train for one on one personal combat.

That brings us up to date being a young man and still figuring his life out some he decided to explore this new contenant. Luckily he did not throw his money from the legions around like some did on women and drinks. He saved it up for these tickets as well as the fee to bring Granite, his gargant with him. Luckily the ships hold was large enough to house him after all the other supplies where loaded onboard.

(If this sounds like to much or unbalanced let me know Im willing to work and change things if needed. )

I guess I'm just curious as to know what to find in Rainia. Do you have any ideas, or do you just want to make it up/discover it as the RP progresses?

Race: False Elf
Race description: False Elves are named as such because they share many of the same traits as Common Elves (your generic Elves). However, False Elves naturally possess great physical strength, rivaling much larger and more muscular races - sometimes as much as 3 or 4 times as strong as humans. They can heal faster than most other races, and can take more punishment before thier strength gives out. False Elves also have inborn psychic talents such as telepathy and telekinesis as well as simple magical skills. They typically do not need incantations or items to cast spells, casting them instead at will. However, for more complex spells such as enchanting people (other than themselves) or objects; they must learn magic like anyone else. Most organic poisons and illnesses won't sicken them, but if they use too much magical or psychic powers, they become faint and may pass out for 8 hours to rejuvenate themselves. They can temporarily get around this by ingesting stimulants.
Age: 18 elf years (between 180 and 190 human years)
Equipment: hunting knife, short bow, arrows, short sword, shield, pack containing basic essentials such as rations, water, bedroll, and other equipment
Skills: telekinesis, sword play, wilderness survival, general combat
Powers: telekinesis, telepathy, heal major wounds, growth (maximum hieght: 500 ft), and crystal shard
Other: False Elves claim to be not of this world, as thier legends say they fell from heaven. Mind you, it's only a legend
Personality: friendly and out going, but not at all naive or innocent. Very independent, and can be a bit of a tease. She prefers to be more dominant
History: False Elves make thier home in the high deserts of the North: a wild and rugged region of sage grass prairies, pinion/juniper hills, sandstone plateaus, and pine/fir forested mountains (think New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado). They are naturally curious and exploratory by nature. Unless they are needed at home to tend to thier families' farms or thier cities' local industries, they often tend to leave home for a time to explore the lands around them. Being the youngest child, it was natural Marielle should leave home to explore. with a whole new land to see and a strange contraption to get there, how could Marielle pass up an opportunity to travel to Rainia?

Wow.. a lot of powerful characters on here. I think, I'll add some more spells to my guy so he's at an equal level with everyone else. Or maybe he's very strong and deadly in werewolf form.

First I have to make the joke, if you're 400lbs of pure muscle, where are your organs? =^.^=

Apart from that theres no big issue, just dont go overboard on the magical strength enhancement thingy. That said, the gargant thing may be an issue, because I'm imagineing it to be a big lizzard thing at least the size of a large warhorse, which may not be able to go where the rest of the characters go.

Also, not an issue this time, just a curiosity, cause at no point do you actualy say what a 'Chala' is, and that seems like an important fact.

I guess I'm just curious as to know what to find in Rainia. Do you have any ideas, or do you just want to make it up/discover it as the RP progresses?

Hmmm... this one is a little tricky, the strength this is a bit much, 4x that of a human with no downside, and the 500ft growth is quite powerful, but with just a little scaling back it would be fine

Looks mostly fine to me, but what do you mean by anti magic wards exactly?

Various items (small golden rods, scrolls, etc...) that lessen the effects of magic or even reflect part of it. Basically, they reduce the effects of spells and/or have part of the spell get back at the caster.

My character is meant to get up-close and stab magic users. The wards let her get close enough to do that.

*nodding* Sorry forgot that info in his character info basically a chala would be a "special mount" or "animal companion" putting it in "Dungeon and Dragons" terms He can understand the feelings of the animal to the point of communication though he is not owned by my character they are friends, and yes atleast the size of a large warhorse for the smaller of the breed which is was I was looking for with this character.

Like I said I can tone things down or modify things if need be.

Yeah I might have gone crazy on the weight LOL but I was trying to stress that due to his height and muscle mass he is a very large impossing person.

I won't apologize for the growth thing. That stays. It's just an upper limit anyway, meaning my character can grow no larger than that. As for strength, that's just to give you a general idea, so you don't freak out when my character can hold her own against a big, muscular opponent. For argument's sake, we'll say she's about as strong as the strongest normal sized race (Elf, Human, Orc, ect...). To tell you the truth, I don't really think she's powerful enough, considering other fantasy characters I've encountered.

Here we go then:

Player: madamenyx
Name: Freya
Appearance: http://geek.pikimal.com/files/2011/02/norngw.jpg
Class/profession: Ranger
Race: Norn
Race description: "The norn are a race of valiant, shape-changing barbarians. Boisterous, strong-willed, and passionate, the norn are an independent people that swear fealty to no single being. They thrive in their mountain stronghold by the sharpness of their senses, the quickness of their wits, and the strength of their massive forearms. They are guided in this world by their Spirits of the Wild, who embody the virtues of the mightiest beasts. As a people, they are quick to anger, even quicker to smile, and treat each new day as a personal challenge. They drink and feast and hunt with equal gusto, and fear few things. They are steadfast allies and implacable foes." ~Taken from GW2 Website
Age: 22
Equipment: backpack, chainmail and leather armor, bow, quiver, short sword, long sword
Skills: tracking, hunting, shape-shifting (snow leopard about the size of a bear)
Powers: She can infuse her arrows with one of the four elements, some healing
Other: The swords serve as a focus point: The short one for her healing, the long one for fighting, usually infused with fire. Both leave her drained and/or weak for some time, unable to do much of her magic.
Personality: Curious and friendly, Freya is much like the big cat she can shift into. She'll usually have a joke or comment to make the people around her laugh and is very protective of the people that she grows close to. Around strangers she will usually stay quiet, studying her surroundings and, when needed, trying to look imposing.
History: Freya had been but a child when her people where forced to leave the high peaks of the mountain range they had called home for generations. What was once bountiful land and snowy wonderland was now lost to the sea of blood and monsters that took it over. Her people adopted, out of necessity, and slowly their customs had started to fade to legend, the spirits of the wyld that once protected them were forgotten but for a few, one of them she.

Once she heard of Rainia, she's made it her goal to get there, explore the land and, if she finds it suitable, coax what is left of her people to move there to regain what they lost.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope thats acceptable. Let me know if there's anything you need me to change, or would like me to add.
That seams reasonable, just as long as you dont go overboard with it and just say everything doesnt work, some stuff will just be weakened and some stuff would be far to strong to be affected.
Yeah I might have gone crazy on the weight LOL but I was trying to stress that due to his height and muscle mass he is a very large impossing person.
It shouldnt be too much of a problem, its just that sometimes having to take care of a mount will be a hinderance, such as anywhere with a low hanging roof.
I won't apologize for the growth thing. That stays. It's just an upper limit anyway, meaning my character can grow no larger than that. As for strength, that's just to give you a general idea, so you don't freak out when my character can hold her own against a big, muscular opponent. For argument's sake, we'll say she's about as strong as the strongest normal sized race (Elf, Human, Orc, ect...). To tell you the truth, I don't really think she's powerful enough, considering other fantasy characters I've encountered.
The strength thing is fine then, about the strength of an orc I'd say sounds right.
The growth this is still rather overpowered though, 500 ft, to put it straight, is freaking huge, like 60 floor building huge, there wouldnt realy be any problems that cant be solved by stepping on it. I dont mind a growth power, but triple digit heights? hell, most of the double digit ones seem crazy.
Here we go then:
Player: madamenyx
Name: Freya
Appearance: http://geek.pikimal.com/files/2011/02/norngw.jpg
Class/profession: Ranger
Race: Norn
Race description: "The norn are a race of valiant, shape-changing barbarians. Boisterous, strong-willed, and passionate, the norn are an independent people that swear fealty to no single being. They thrive in their mountain stronghold by the sharpness of their senses, the quickness of their wits, and the strength of their massive forearms. They are guided in this world by their Spirits of the Wild, who embody the virtues of the mightiest beasts. As a people, they are quick to anger, even quicker to smile, and treat each new day as a personal challenge. They drink and feast and hunt with equal gusto, and fear few things. They are steadfast allies and implacable foes." ~Taken from GW2 Website
Age: 22
Equipment: backpack, chainmail and leather armor, bow, quiver, short sword, long sword
Skills: tracking, hunting, shape-shifting (snow leopard about the size of a bear)
Powers: She can infuse her arrows with one of the four elements, some healing
Other: The swords serve as a focus point: The short one for her healing, the long one for fighting, usually infused with fire. Both leave her drained and/or weak for some time, unable to do much of her magic.
Personality: Curious and friendly, Freya is much like the big cat she can shift into. She'll usually have a joke or comment to make the people around her laugh and is very protective of the people that she grows close to. Around strangers she will usually stay quiet, studying her surroundings and, when needed, trying to look imposing.
History: Freya had been but a child when her people where forced to leave the high peaks of the mountain range they had called home for generations. What was once bountiful land and snowy wonderland was now lost to the sea of blood and monsters that took it over. Her people adopted, out of necessity, and slowly their customs had started to fade to legend, the spirits of the wyld that once protected them were forgotten but for a few, one of them she.
Once she heard of Rainia, she's made it her goal to get there, explore the land and, if she finds it suitable, coax what is left of her people to move there to regain what they lost.
Hope thats acceptable. Let me know if there's anything you need me to change, or would like me to add.
That all looks fine to me.
I'll try to get the IC thread up and running tomorrow.
If it's any consolation, I hate crush fetishes. Can't stand them. They're disgusting.
Yeah, that is one of the odder fetishes out there, cant say its one I share either, but who am I to judge? Besides, thats not why I'm concerned about your character being able to grow to 500ft tall, its a balance issue, no one else in the thread has something that powerful that they can do, and the last thing I or anyone else wants is to feel redundant.
Also, Heres my character.
Player: KittenOfDeath
Name: Jacs “Rook” Dustwood.
Appearance: http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/078/6/8/confuzzled_by_KOD_kittenofdeath.jpg
Rook is covered in a thin layer of brown and white fur, its thicker at the back until it joins with his tail. His eyes are black and yellow (sclera and pupil retina respectively) his hair is orange and the tattoo on his face is a deep, blood red. He usually wears his dyed black leather armour along with a brown long coat, and although he sometimes gets new clothes, he is never seen without the black gauntlet that encases his entire right arm.
Class/profession: Mercenary fighter and monster slayer.
Race: Hecshanian Tiefling
Race description: Hecshanians are native to Rainia, a rather reclusive and predominantly tribal race, they live in the deep jungles of Rainia, mainly north of the mountain range. To outsiders they are generally rude and occasionally violent, but they leave you alone if you leave them alone.
A Tiefling is a creature that has the blood of a demon in them, usually it is thin and doesn’t manifest itself in significant ways, but it almost always comes with some kind of physical sign of the taint, just as horns, different coloured eyes or a forked tail.
Age: 25
Equipment: Magical cursed artefact (electrical enchanted gauntlet), backpack and bedroll, basic adventuring gear, leather armour, Knife.
Skills: Spelunking, climbing, forest/jungle survival, using rope, moving quickly, killing things.
Powers: no powers, but very resilient to harm and the elements.
Other: His gauntlet talks to him, he doesn’t know if it’s real though, so he keeps that fact to himself.
Personality:
A very nice person for the most part, his gregarious and foolish nature hides the sly cunning that lies beneath the surface, and is fiercely loyal as well when he intends to be, but is quite happy to lie through his teeth and go back on his word to people he either doesn’t like or respect. He deals with anger well, rarely letting his tempers rise, but when someone manages to get him in to a foul mood he is prone to going berserk if pushed too far.
History: Why Rook is going to Rainia is easy, it’s his home, he was sent over by his employers, the Dead Hands adventurers guild, as a heavily armoured courier, now that his job is done he is more than happy to head straight home and get paid for his hard work. The fact that he was in some rather hot water with the local city watch had nothing to do with his haste to get home, nothing at all.
500 ft?! Well at least we know how to kill a dragon. We have our elf chick sit on it.
and the last thing I or anyone else wants is to feel redundant.
Well, that´s kinda difficult. Avoiding redundancy requires limited power and specialization. And to lesser or greater degree, most or all of us have broken that rule.
Yes we all have to some degree, but what I mean by redundancy is being comletely unneeded due to the usefulness of another, for example, say there's a magic user at the other end of the clearing throwing fireballs or something at yours and esmeraldaflames characters, what point is there to yours charging, relying on antimagic to keep her alove untill she gets in stabbing distance, when hers can just grow massive and step on him? Thats the problem I'm seeing here, we may have all made our characters powerful, but being 500ft tall is another level all of its own.
Now I dont want to be difficult about this, its just my opinion, personaly I think it would be better for everyone if the power was vastly scaled back, but if you all dissagree then I would have no argument and I'll drop the matter.
I agree with you kittenofdeath. My guy for examle has a lot of spell, but they tire him when he uses them.
I must also agree with kittenofdeath. Being able to grow that much makes things largely unabalanced, as well as a one hit kill anything with a step. In most fantasy realms giants are rarely over 50' tall and even then they are powerful and can squish people, or arm wrestle a dragon. Something I might suggest would be that you could take on a size fitting to your strength able to grow three times your size or so. Like I said just a suggestion. Strength isnt everything as my characte knows. You need leverage and with size comes leverage.
