Pepsi Ignores Criticism on Use of Aborted Cells in Research

"PepsiCo is ignoring criticism from pro-life advocates upset that the company contracts with a research firm that uses fetal cells from babies victimized by abortions to test and produce artificial flavor enhancers."

"“Well, we have a message for PepsiCo,” the pro-life advocate continued. “We who are pro-life have a “gold standard” too. And that means we defend the sanctity of all human life including the remains of innocent aborted babies that PepsiCo is exploiting for profit.”

“If they want to boycott to end, they need to tell Senomyx to start using moral sources for their research and development or they will sever their contracts,” she concluded."

You got something more credible than "lifenews?"

I've seen nothing about it anywhere and I read a lot of news sites...

(Like Sarah Palin, I don't read newspapers; Katie proves why she failed...)

I have no idea how "credible" LifeSiteNews is. This piece was the first time I've ever visited their site. The article links to another piece they did on Senomyx on March 29, 2011 here: http://www*****sitenews.com/news/bi...es-from-aborted-babies-in-food-enhancement-te

The OP article lists these other "Pro-life groups" joining the Children of God for Life: Life Issues Institute, American Life League, Colorado Right to Life, American Right to Life, Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute, ALL Arizona, Central Nebraskans for Life, Pro-Life Waco, Houston Coalition for Life, Mother and Unborn Baby Fox Valley, Womankind, Billboards for Life, Movement for a Better America, Defenders of the Unborn, Focus Pregnancy Help Center, Idaho Chooses Life, EMC Frontline Pregnancy Centers of NY, Four Seasons for Life, CREDO, Life Choices, STOPP Dallas, CA Right To Life, Human Life Alliance, International Right to Life Federation, Operation Rescue, Pro-Life Nation, LifeNews.com, and Mary’s Outreach for Women.

From the site's ABOUT page: "The service was originally started by Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), a Canadian national pro-life organization headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Campaign Life Coalition, founded in 1978, was one of the first pro-life organizations to emphasize the international dimension of attacks on life and family. Along with a few other groups it pioneered pro-life lobbying at United Nations conferences. CLC president, Jim Hughes, is currently also vice-president of the International Right to Life Federation.

"CLC’s international dimension spurred the development of LifeSiteNews as an international news service. LifeSiteNews.com U.S. and Canada are now separate incorporated non-profit organizations, are not involved in direct political action and do not support or oppose political candidates or parties. LifeSiteNews is strictly a news and information service."

What's truly interesting to me is exactly the role these aborted cells are playing in this situation...

...and how the miracle of life lives on even after man condemns it to "death".

I wonder about the basic truth of the story. I'm as anti-abortion as anybody, but I'm not willing to believe something unless it can be verified just because I feel a certain way on the issue and I've seen nothing to corroborate this story and I think it would be of some interest to somebody in the rw opposition media, that's all.

If you don't want some partisan hack making traction at your expense, then you need to apply a bit of cynicism yourself, no?

;) ;)

I suspect this article was the kick-off news release for their boycott campaign. It was issued last Thursday before the holiday weekend.

If it has any validity, it should start making some noise...

...if it is bogus, we'll also learn of that.

Either way, partisan hacks will act the same way(s) whether this story is true or not...just as always.

Individually, I'd rather it be bogus...

...because then the company could stand and truthfully reject the charge of using aborted cells in any way what so ever. Which is what I would hope for anyway. And the proclaimers would have to retract and apologize which, considering the opposite possibility, I'd much rather see happen, too.

Some folks talk of black markets involving the remains of the millions of the aborted. I understand the opportunities that presents to those who are more interested in research than ethics, morality, and simple common decency. As well, I understand the private sector isn't restricted on the issue(s) as the government is...

...the good news about that is, is if what this site charges is true, perhaps that will be the light needed to begin exposing what may truly be happening.

Cynicism?

Even if this article is true, I doubt most Americans will care enough to stop it...

I have trouble in thinking of what connection or use there might be because nothing comes to mind and we've learned by research now that cures come from adult stem cells; fetal cells tend to cancer and instability...

I'm not reading it but basically what I get is that Pepsi is using dead babies to test flavour...thats fucked up

No, the intentionally misleading first paragraphs say that the company that Pepsi has a contract with has another branch that does some kind of flavour testing using human cells.
The panic kittens are concerned that money Senomyx earns from their contracts with big companies like Pepsi is being used for this other stuff.

Senomyx wouldn't be trolling clinics collecting live samples by the way. The HEK was created in a lab from a combination of different types of microscopic cells, and it originated in the 70's. The clones have been used in research for years.

Oh by the way, have you heard? If you drink dr pepper and pop rocks your stomach will explode. Hubba Bubba is made with spider's eggs.

Boycott Pepsi because it's full of sweeteners and caffeine, and lacking in any food value. That's enough reason there.

Yes, I understand its all bullshit...its just funny how its hidden in technical terms instead of just coming out and saying DEAD BABIES

It's funny how you pretend to read.

If the people want dead babies in their headlines, the people will have dead babies in their headlines, no matter what the article actually says.

Fringe news sites have the best ads. This place has an ad for a credit card processing service which promises not to provide their service to abortion clinics.

"Cornerstone Payment Systems is a company committed to Life! For this reason, we will not provide credit card processing for businesses that perform abortions or support this heinous industry."

Now that Pepsi is on the black list, Cornerstone is going to have to take a close look at all their retail clients. Anyone who sells Frito-Lay, Gatorade or Quaker Oats Oatmeal is now off limits.

(NaturalNews) The Obama Administration has given its blessing to PepsiCo to continue utilizing the services of a company that produces flavor chemicals for the beverage giant using aborted human fetal tissue. LifeSiteNews.com reports that the Obama Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) has decided that PepsiCo's arrangement with San Diego, Cal.-based Senomyx, which produces flavor enhancing chemicals for Pepsi using human embryonic kidney tissue, simply constitutes "ordinary business operations."

The issue began in 2011 when the non-profit group Children of God for Life (CGL) first broke the news about Pepsi's alliance with Senomyx, which led to massive outcry and a worldwide boycott of Pepsi products. At that time, it was revealed that Pepsi had many other options at its disposal to produce flavor chemicals, which is what its competitors do, but had instead chosen to continue using aborted fetal cells -- or as Senomyx deceptively puts it, "isolated human taste receptors" (http://www.naturalnews.com).

A few months later, Pepsi' shareholders filed a resolution petitioning the company to "adopt a corporate policy that recognizes human rights and employs ethical standards which do not involve using the remains of aborted human beings in both private and collaborative research and development agreements." But the Obama Administration shut down this 36-page proposal, deciding instead that Pepsi's used of aborted babies to flavor its beverage products is just business as usual, and not a significant concern.

"We're not talking about what kind of pencils PepsiCo wants to use -- we are talking about exploiting the remains of an aborted child for profit," said Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director of CGL, concerning the SEC decision. "Using human embryonic kidney (HEK-293) to produce flavor enhancers for their beverages is a far cry from routine operations!"

To be clear, the aborted fetal tissue used to make Pepsi's flavor chemicals does not end up in the final product sold to customers, according to reports -- it is used, instead, to evaluate how actual human taste receptors respond to these chemical flavorings. But the fact that Pepsi uses them at all when viable, non-human alternatives are available illustrates the company's blatant disregard for ethical and moral concerns in the matter.

Back in January, Oklahoma Senator Ralph Shortey proposed legislation to ban the production of aborted fetal cell-derived flavor chemicals in his home state. If passed, S.B. 1418 would also reportedly ban the sale of any products that contain flavor chemicals derived from human fetal tissue, which includes Pepsi products as well as products produced by Kraft and Nestle.

I KNOW, right? I'm so glad that I'm not on drugs anymore. I feel sorry for people with no willpower- I truly do. *chugs Pepsi* You know what would feel really good right now? A cup of coffee. I'm so hyper- anyone else hyper? You guys wanna run out to get some coffee?

You know what would be really awesome though? What would really hydrate the hell out of me!? Some classic Coke from the 1950s. Where do I get some of that shit!? I heard it blows your fucking mind!

Can you remove all the propaganda and just present us with the facts please?

You know, I'm gonna call bullshit on this, because it seems like stem cells wouldn't taste good enough to warrant being a flavoring. But if they were, I wouldn't give a shit. Kid's already dead, why are we pissed about using it? I've never understood that. Some people freak the fuck out when they see the little orange sticker on my driver's license. Why waste that shit? Why the uproar?

One more reason to drink Coke instead of Pepsi. Thanks for the heads up. ;)
