How long were you reading stories here on Literotica before you submitted one of your own?

For me it was around a year and all that reading did help hone my skills when I came to write my own stories.

I had written some erotic literature on a social networking site previously but it was really just playing about with ideas. The best example of my previous work "Fiona and Ariel" I am submitting here but the writing of my latest saga "Tits Have Benefits", I believe is superior.

About six months.

I had already been writing stories for Yahoo's adult groups after being disappointed by some of those I had found. I was practising my writing by trying to write a story for each fetish group.

When I finally registered as a member, I submitted my recent stories within a week or so.

None at all. I started writing erotica on my own using some of the role plays my wife and I had done as story ideas. I then joined Literotica in 2009 but then got "gun shy" and didn't want to try putting my stuff up. I wrote for a few more months until I felt I had gotten better then logged back in and before I lost my nerve submitted my first story "Almost Perfect" 5/13/10

To this day I really don't read very many stories on here and when I do it's usually something a friend will send me thinking I'll like it. I don't know why but I just don;t get into reading it just writing it. Occasionally I'll look at a story in a category I have not written in to see if I think I can but that is about it. Funny thing is I grew up reading nothing but horror but could never write it. I tried a "dirty story" for the hell of it and haven't stopped since. Go figure.

I read here off and on for a few years probably.. And I'm pretty sure when I first found it I wasn't 18. Oops. lol.

I was writing before I came here.. I bought a friend an erotic story book as a gag gift (no pun intended) for a graduation present. We decided we could do that. That's where it started. Once that happened, I remembered this site. :) It was a while before I was brave enough to submit anything though.
Then I found the message board... I don't remember how, lol, but the rest is history. :p :D

You know if you are eventually looking for feedback you may want to put your story link in your signature or in your public profile. That way anyone who sees any of your posts and is curious about your work can go to it. Trust me the average reader on here is too lazy to remember your name and go to the authors list and scroll around to look for you so a link is an easy way to get some readers. I would have sent you this in a pm rather than post but you have not activated that function in your profile.

It was about a year for me, too. I found the site when I had looked for some free online romance reading. After the initial shock (haha) I found some authors I liked and a bit later, my competitive streak got up and I wondered if I could write some too. I wrote Make a Wish, got some wonderful comments, and decided to keep going.

It was a good couple of years before I attempted to write anything for Lit - I'd discovered it in the tempestuously horny years of my teenage youth, lol. When i was at Uni I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and wondered if I could actually write something for Lit. I'd discovered the Threads by then too. I created Sechs City and voila :)

Thanks for the heads up on activating my PM function, I just sort of assumed that the PM function would be activated by default. Maybe that explains why I haven't recieved any PMs LOL.

It was close to ten years for me, though there were some year-long reading breaks in those years. My roommates found lit back in 2001-ish, and I joined in 2009 to keep track of authors. I didn't start writing until I was hormonal and pregnant, lol, and I submitted a story in December of 2010.

Nice. Good scores on Tits have benefits! I noticed chapter 1 debuted on my birthday so maybe that will be good luck for you.

5 stories in the same month will help you as well. I have noticed that Lit readers have ADD. If you are prolific and keep a steady flow of work coming they will follow and vote and comment go a few weeks in between chapters and there is a big drop off. I did 38 stories from last May to this Feb but only three since and some pinhead asked me "what the hold up was?" It's like they think we get paid for this.

It was around 6 months after I signed up. I never intented to write anything. I just got tired of reading the same thing. I said to myself, "Self, you can write something as good as your reading."

Well, I wanted to write the thoughts I had in my head and just began writing them. My first two stories got rejected but I stayed with it. I was lucky enough that some great editors thought I might have potential and helped me out.

I probably don't write any better but the editors I have had make me look pretty good. I have and had some of the best.

I posted my first story four months after joining Lit. I had not written any fiction since college, so I was starting from scratch. It was titled 'My Tree Hugger'.

I had been reading erotic stories for a while.. years? not just on Lit. when I finally found lit I was like wow....and then there was the forums...where I could just say anything I wanted ...total venting and clearing my mind and asking any retarded question that came to my mind. Cathartic.

So one day I was like. I can do this. I can write a story. So I tried and submitted and it was rejected. So I rewrote it and BAM! it was rejected again. So I corrected punctuation, quotations, added Paragraphs. Third time was a charm. During that time I wrote my second story and it was rejected maybe once and they they were both up near the same time.

It was so amazing to have them both on Lit and then to see that people were reading them!

It's been a long process of development. first, figuring out that I need paragraphs and that one long run on jumble wasn't enough and then discovering how to write dialogue and how to use quotation marks!

Then learning to use spell check and then....lol...learning that most authors actually read over what they had written and made corrections! Wow! Then as I learned more and more, I discovered editors!

and then I discovered that I could actually learn from my editors if I listened to what they were saying.

Amazing!

i had tried writing erotic stories before but never finished them. after reading the first two or three stories here i decided to write my own, though... published it only many weeks later though, as i am a very slow writer...

@Lovecraft,

I read your story, "An Aniversary to Remember" added it to my faves and gave it 5*. I also left a comment about it.

I had started reading erotic stories on the web since around 2002, and some years later I discovered Lit. I never even imagined I would ever write my own stuff. But slightly over a year ago I had some ideas for stories which I started writing, and the rest is history.

A friend had told me about this site a few years ago, and I read some things and liked a lot of it. Then I got away from the site for awhile, and came back to read more a few months ago.

I noticed that some authors were really quite good, and others, not so much. I tend to hang around the nonhuman and scifi sections since I've always liked fairy tales and the fantasy genre in general. I noticed that there tended to be a repeating theme in regards to the characters and nonhumans used (e.g. vamps and werewolves), and my imagination was sparked to bring in something a little different.

I posted my first chapter about a month or two ago, chapter 6 just went live a day or two ago, and I'm currently working on chapter 7. :)

I guess I also found that there were stories I wanted to see that were not there and so decided to write some myself. And when I get a comment like:

"Wow!

Never stop writing this series!! I absolutely love it! Been looking for a good series with this content and haven't found one till now! I love how erotic it is while still having emotion involved. I hate all the abusing domination stories but this has the perfect mix of everything"

It obviously encourages me to continue writing.
