Hi

I submitted a story the category "Erotic Couplings" it was put in "Transsexuals & Crossdressers". While it does have a three sentences that define one of the characters as Trans, I do not feel it is the primary thrust of the story.

As well, the Transsexuals & Crossdressers section is about 99.9% MTF stories, not FTM, which mine nominally is.

What is the best way to get this addressed? Do I resubmit it with a note describing why I feel it should be moved?

sfla, there's no link so I haven't read your story, but a couple of points.

Erotic couplings is a category for straight hetero sex so I see why you might have a problem there. I also understand why the MTF dominated T/S is not a place you want to be.

Just a thought. If you are writing FTM, and I read your tag says 'boi', have you considered putting this in 'Lesbian'? For me, this seems the natural home and if you post a link here we can go take a look.

Hmmm. Just read it. It's well-written, although it didn't do much for me. I think Erotic Couplings would have been more appropriate -- the lines indicating the FTM thing are almost throw away. But I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean that they are there and it gives the reader an idea but it doesn't overwhelm the story. Don't know if you can get the category changed; you could PM Laurel, I guess.

It may be too late to fix this story, but to prevent future occurances of this happening you can address the issue in the author notes section of the submissions page. I recently submitted a story in the Group Sex category that had a slight incest undercurrent running through it. In the notes section, I added:

"This story contains mild incest, but that is not a central theme of the story. There is no intercourse between siblings. Any sex is implied, rather than stated. Please publish this story in the Group Sex category, rather than in Incest/Taboo. Thank you."

My request was granted.

Never, as far as I can determine. Yes, they are rather limiting--and some aren't well defined. But they are the ones we have.

a few years ago actually. letters is not an original category and i think there's one or two more that were added after a bit. still, it has been awhile. personally i think they should at least add subcategories, but it aint gonna happen.

oh, horror wasn't original, but unless you've been here forever it might as well be.

You know, there's another thread on categories, I can't remember where, but the poster was commenting on a story where there's a gay incest theme and the question was whether to put it into the "Incest" or "Gay Male" category. IIRC, the response was that "gay trumps incest" (or was it the other way around?). Maybe we need one of the administrators to put a sticky here explaining how writers should categorize these stories, and what trumps what. The alternative is to use codes, as other sites do, or to just put something in the story description line that gives the readers a heads-up. There's always the problem that some writers want the action to be a surprise, ala "I've just found out that my gay lover is my long-lost brother/uncle/father/son. Gasp!" and don't want the surprise spoiled. I guess you can't please everybody.

This is really a good erotic couplings story, not t/s. To be t/s you have to dwell more on the issues of changing sexuality. Unfortunately, so far as I've seen, the t/s cat is dominated by MTF.

I hate saying it but you might be better served by using the fetish cat and giving oodles of tags.

Yea. I put it in erotic couplings but it was put in t/s c/d by the reviewer. I would be OK with it in t/s if it wasn't dominated by MTF.

I hesitate to put it in Fetish (even if it would be better received) out of not wanting to have FTM sex or sexuality automatically seen as a Fetish.

I have had some other things going on in my life that are more important, but I think I will PM Laurel today.

Yes, I saw that. It was good for explaining what people should expect in the various categories, but didn't address the problem I was speaking of: how to categorize stories with multiple elements. In other words, does "gay" trump "incest" or does "incest" trump "gay?"

I don't see the problem with discerning this. Are readers of incest more likely to be turned off by gay sex or are readers of gay sex more likely to be turned off by incest? I don't see much question that most readers of incest definitely aren't looking for the gay sex angle of it, whereas that the participants are related wouldn't be as much a problem for someone reading for gay sex.

The issue for me is that my story was put in the category I did not want it in, and which I feel is inappropriate for the story content.

I have made inquires, and am just waiting to hear back.
