I really like this
http://www.mediumhaircuts.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Medium-Haircuts.jpg

but I just can't decide if it'd suit me or not. I'd have it light golden brown rather than blonde too.

I know Satin is usually really good with this sort of thing, so hopefully she'll see this. Would love opinions good or bad (apart from comments on jessica simpson being a dumb redneck, that's already an established fact  )

thanks guys and girls

It looks really good, if a bit poofy. Take out some of the volume and freaky sheen (how DO they get it to look like that??) and it would look very nice.
See what your hairdresser thinks, though.
I'm not the best authority on haircuts.

ummmm I don't have one. The last time I went to the hairdressers properly (barring styling for sisters weddings) was when I was 9

I thought my ears were burning!

Okay, so if I'm judging by your hair in your avatar being your natural texture, getting a haircut like that would probably be a bad idea.

You need stick straight hair, or at least very minimally wavy hair, to pull off a haircut like that because the hair will lay flat against itself in the layers. Girls with curlier textures would end up looking like a Pyramid because your hair would "stack" on itself in a triangle shape UNLESS you straightened it -every single day-. Straightening your hair occasionally is fine, but daily, and you're just asking for mega split ends, dryness and frizziness, and frizz is almost ALWAYS a problem with girls with curls.

So, straight haired girls are fine with cuts like that because the layers would not stack. If you're prepared to deal with the potential damage of straightening daily to get it to lay right, go ahead, but I would strongly advise you to go with something that would work with your texture, not against it.

Then maybe ask whoever you're going to to have it cut like that ?

Satin I reckon you're right, it would be a pain and destroy my hair :( I'm just getting mega sick of it as it is, but can never find anything I like that would suit my face shape and hair type

According to my sources...Women with curly hair will want to select a medium-length to long hairstyle that is blunt cut or has a moderate amount of layering. The length of the hair will produce more weight and will prevent the curls from being overly tight or frizzy. Hair should be styled by applying a product that will hold the hair in place and reduce frizz throughout the hair with your fingers, gently lifting and separating curls to create definition. This style should only take a few minutes to style and would also work well for women with slightly wavy hair.

You need to explain to whoever cuts your hair that you are looking for an easy, low-maintenance hairstyle. Describe the natural qualities of your hair that may impact your style and explain the amount of time you expect to spend styling your hair.

Wash and wear hairstyles are great for busy people, but your choices are more limited the more texture you have in your hair. Your hair, being very textured, can look great with the right cut and products and gentle care, however you need to watch out for cuts that are too short, too layered or require too much heat styling. Curly hair is especially brittle in the winter and in dry months, so having a style that forces you to heat style with a curling iron or flat iron is just begging for extreme damage.

This is so timely!! I just had a review by peers who tell me, basically, that my hair is too sexy for my job... I have beautiful blond, naturally wavy hair to my waist. I DON'T want to cut it, but basically if I want to be taken seriously in this position I will have to cut it (just got mega promotion recently).
Very disappointed but hey - it's only hair, right? It's not like I can't grow it back, getting them used to it slowly... :)
For now your advise is perfect for me as well. Thanks SD!

I'm not an expert in hair but I've been in the business world for decades. Have you considered wearing your hair up while at work? That way you still look professional at work but can have your long hair when not at work.

That hair looks like a helmet. Not natural, not soft.

Also, that woman has on way too much makeup. She looks like a mannequin to me.

My thoughts exactly.

It's Jessica Simpson, I think? Or some celebrity?

I was pretty much told the same thing, and I did wear my hair up all of the time. I had hair long enough that when I sat down, I had to lift it to keep from sitting on it, no joke. It got caught in everything, including the car door.

Anyway, I always kept it in a bun at work, but I was pretty much told (in a very round about way) that it looked terrible and I wouldn't be taken seriously until I did something aobut it.

So I cut off 27 inches and donated it. I bobbed it. No layers, just a cute bouncy little bobb.

Now it's shoulder length and I need to cut it again. It's cute as it is, but it's just long enough that I have to pull it back while at work, and it just looks stupid that way.

I think it's cute. I'd give my right arm for just a tiny bit of volume like that. Anything that'll keep my hair from hanging limply and grossly around my face. :(

But I do agree that while the cut is cute, it probably won't be the best fit for Molly's hair.

Yes, it's Jessica.

I personally think she looks great but I love that "done" look.

Hi WW -
I agree!!! I do wear my hair up at work. My mom is a beautician, and I have pretty much exhausted her repertoire of upsweeps, twisties, braids, and other bullshit :) It's just that my hair is SO THICK - I have so much of it that even when it is up it is obviously prominent  I will just stick with the "hey, it's hair and I can grow it back" state of mind. And then really, I can probably grow it out slowly and nobody will notice. I'm guessing it's just a shock because everyone I work with now is SO MUCH older than I am... Grrrr...

First of all, thank you for donating your hair!! (My niece had leukemia and I have done that as well... Yes, she's fine. Did you know they can cure one type of leukemia now?) And sorry but I have to giggle at your car door story, as I constantly get mine caught in the car window as it rolls up. Ouch!
Bobb is now considered as a candidate. I shall also follow Curious_In_Cali's link to the virtual hair cutting shop.

Thanks, all!

To the OP,

I agree with what Satin said. From what I can tell from your AV, you and I have similar textured hair.

I can pull off something like that only if I'm willing to straighten it all the time. -Not to say that layers are bad. In fact, layers are wonderful in curly/wavy hair provided they are properly placed.

I like the option to straighten, blow-out, leave natural, or curl my hair. Finding a really good stylist is key.

I just paid a gazillion dollars for a haircut recently, and it was worth every penny. I actually brought a picture with me, and never had to take it out of my bag. My stylist asked me practical questions about what I needed from my hair, and she whipped it all up, and made me fabulous.

That's hilarious.

When I was working out my last haircut, I used the same picture, and one other, for what I wanted stylewise, and then had 1 more for colour.

I can't maintain the height, so I have that in a flatter look.

And in red.

And I straighten mine, I don't have enough curl to actually have curly hair. So I'd either have to curl it or straighten it to look decent.

I think the older crowd is the key, but let's face it, there's going to be more people out there that are older than us than are our age.

My hair is very thick, and will take volume well, so I can poof up a bobb and make it a bit more exciting, or slick it down and be more dramatic. And no layers, I just hate the idea of them.

I was in the habbit of donating my hair every other christmas. It started when my step father was diagnosed with cancer. I would donate between 18-24 inches. Depended on the year. My hair grows very quickly, which is why cutting it really doesn't seem like a big deal anymore.

Personally, I like long hair. I'm not into the poof thing, but I think that is out of style. I do like short hair, but not on all women. Some just look good with shorter hair...some just look good, no matter what.

While I know nothing about the professional things of hair styling, I'd just advise something that you can do, yourself. If you have to go to a salon any time you need your hair style updated, isn't that going to be expensive?

Aside from that, the fumes in those places bother me. Just like laundry mats, I can't breathe in those places. Well, enough about my issues. I guess women don't have problems with the smells, I guess.

And, if your salon is anything like the few that I've been in, I guess you could at least keep up to date on the latest gossip.

Molly, your AV is how your hair look like at the moment?

If so, I don't think you need new hair style then, because the hair on your avatar looks simply beautiful! :rose:

Awwww thank you hon, that's very sweet :)

I've opted for going back to light golden brown (pretty much my natural colour) and then looking for a stylist for advice about fringe (bangs?) options :)

Hi Primalex -
Thanks for that comment! I am totally with you... I have an internal position, no client contact, sales, etc. What does it matter? It's just that the same comment came in from pretty much every direction. I am going to bide my time for now. Once they know me better, well, they'll love me as I am :)
Either that, or you're subtly pointing out that I hijacked Molly's thread

So that didnt go to plan. The red hasn't altered, but my roots are perfect *sigh*
So now do I try dark brown, black, black with blue hints or deep purple, or a golden brown containing lightener?

pleasure fan, you're more than welcome to hijack the thread hon
