I noticed something weird today, I submitted two stories for the site on Saturday, and even though the stories are still pending there are in the excess of thirty hits per story on them.

I am confused honestly.

That's been happening lately, and nobody really knows why. Mine, put in the queue about 11 PM last night, was up to 16 views by this morning, and up to 42 the last time I looked.

It could be some sort of behind the scenes process, a glitch in the view counter, or even someone using a script to try to copy text.

Nothing to really worry about. Everything's getting approved on about the same schedule as always.

Edit: Make that 44. Looks like it's going up by 2 every 15-30 mins, by my best guess.

Wow, thank you for that, I was a little curious as to what could be going on. I figured the whole process would take a few days but didn't expect hits until it was approved and posted.

I've gotten this on mine for the last two weeks too. My guess is that it's happening on all submissions.

One thing I can tell you for sure is, you aren't alone. I just checked again, same amount of hits.

I'm up to 50 now after three hours, so it looks like the rate of accumulation is 2 per hour, which matches up with when I submitted it. As someone else mentioned in another thread about this, it's always an even number.

If it maintains this pace, it will certainly exceed my last one from two weeks ago, which I'm fairly certain had 64 when it went live.

Which means I have a longer wait on my hands. You'd think being on an erotica site I could find something to keep me busy...:D *laughs*

At least I understand a little better what is going on, Darkniciad and sr71plt. :)

I must be backward. My current one on submission has only gone to 28 views. And last week, it stopped increasing when it reached 30.

It is all so confusing but seemed so simple to begin with. *laughs*

I picked a random sampling of 10 of my older stories ( around 5 years old ) and wrote the views down when I checked my pending submission last time. The pending story is up by 2, as expected, and I noticed that about half of the older stories went up by exactly 2 as well.

So, it may not be confined to just pending submissions. Seems suspicious that older, out of the spotlight stories would just happen to increase by that same magical number at the same time.

On the bright side dear, at least yours were accepted, mine are still pending.

I long into Lit and think, this will be the day, all excited. And then...nope. :(

I found a cookie in the FAQ's

Why does my story have views when it's still listed as pending?

Whenever you (the author) or the Literotica editors open a submission form, it registers as a view on your view counter. If you check your story or poem 5 times, you may notice that it shows it being viewed 5 times in your author profile. This does not mean it's being read by readers. The story will only be publicly available once it has been "Approved".

So, apparently everytime we the authors view our work we accrue views, along with the Lit Editors. I am having less of a "What the hell?" fest now. ;)

I don't see where that applies here. We aren't opening our submission forms for stories (and this doesn't account for the increase by two anyway). If we were opening our submission forms on stories that often, they'd never post, because when you open your story while it's still in pending, it gets sent to the end of the submissions queue.

Whenever I log in to Lit, I actually log into the my account page, so what I think it means is that everytime we do that (rather than having to open the story each time) it counts as a view.

I doubt that. And a view of what? All of your stories? Any story then on submission? That doesn't make much sense. And it's never happened to me before until this last little mystery.

Bestroika-

I think Sr is saying that logging into your lit story page and clicking on the "view" button under "submissions" won't increase your hits, since you aren't actually viewing your story.

Are you saying that, after clicking on "view" you're clicking on the "pending" next to your story?

I have no idea if that latter action would cause your hits to go up, but if I were you I'd stop clicking on that button. As I understand it, if you accidentally hit any button after clicking the "pending" button you'll throw your story to the back of the line. There is no benefit from clicking pending unless you actually have to edit your story, and there is a high potential cost.

This same conversation is going on in Surleywilder's thread, How many editors view our work. You might want to check it out for more information.

Also, if no one has mentioned this to you yet, your first submission will take longer to post than subsequent stories. I think mine was something like five days, and my others have been three.

So sit tight and stop clicking!

Yes, you can discount that as happening. I've clicked into "View" on my submissions page a couple of times over tha past day, but the "views" on my pending story are still sitting at 28.

No, I'm not hitting the pending button dear, from the way I read the post in the FAQ's about this though it sounded like everytime you log into your submission page it causes a hit. But at this point, I'll just be glad to see whether or not they are approved, no matter the process.

Nobody has mentioned, until now, that the first submission takes longer, so thank you for that. I shall attempt to be a good little girl, but I tend to lean towards impatient. *laughs*

I actually pm'd Laurel about this last week when someone else asked the same question. In that thread I think "Dark" mentioned a potential story hocking bot. It's either that or a glitch. I put a link to that thread in the PM and explained that if this is a glitch maybe she should make some announcement sayong so as if it isn'tt within their system someone is trying to find a way to yank the stories before they even see posting which if they succeeded for the record would mean that if they beat your story by even a day they could try t oclaim you are stealing their story. All speculation of course but I think seeing this is the second thread in a week about it maybe it is becoming a concern. I"ve been working on another project so haven't submitted in close to three weeks honestly I am seriously thinking of seeing how this plays out before I do.

Damnation, I hope this isn't some story thieving bot, that would suck beyond the telling of it! Did Laurel get back to you at all? I'm assuming not as you said nothing about a reply from her in your post.

I don't blame you on waiting to see how all of this plays out. I am really happy that my other story is still in editing.
