Just a query...

When writing non-consent based stories, do you suppose it would be feasible to have the ''victim" gradually grow to feel some affection for the foe? Or if not affection, at least not outright hate?

Especially if the whole scenario in question revolved around her pleasure rather than pain. At this point in my story it could go either way. But I want to write whatever happens in a believable way.

So, what do you think? If the (I hesitate to say the actual "R" word) event wasn't at all brutal but she still was rather forced into it, is there any coming back from that?

I'd originally planned to write the two characters as disliking each other throughout the tale; but lo and behold one character isn't cooperating with me. It's still rather early in their relationship so it would be easy to start mending what has been broken - I'm just a little unsure how to actually go about it.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

Ginnnnnnnnnna!

Keep in mind that this is not the real world. Go where the story and the characters take you.

Opefrative Word is "Formula"

That's the usual formula for nonconsent.

The problem is that too many stories take the Stockholm syndrome route--victim identifies with perpetrator. So the reader sees the ending coming a kilometer away. Or worse, they're acting out his/her rape fantasy, and end up all huggy-kissy.

Apples and oranges. It's still the usual formula for this category on Lit. That was the question.

Thank you for your input.

This isn't really a matter of identifying with the perpetrator or even Stockholm Syndrome. And it definitely wasn't expected, welcomed or fantasized about - it's an odd set of circumstances.

The way I've left it gives me room to actually take it in either direction. I just wanted to know which would be the preferable one.

I've an idea now. We'll see where it goes from here.

Thanks again.

Uh oh -- don't write by committee. :) Someone else said it -- write where the story takes you. Or I'd say, write what feels right to you, and does right by the characters. It's your story, that's what counts.
