Ok I've just sent a message to the site admin on the subject, and I'd like to see how much do you think this would be an awesome addition to literotica.

In my opinion this is the only thing that the literotica search lacks to become absolutely perfect.

If they were able to feature the "series" then I can hope something like this can be done. :)
Of course what I mean on the title is being able to have checkboxes or something similar on the search engine so that we can choose (for example) ONLY the stories that have a female perspective AND using the 1st person.

What do you think? :)

Possible... yes. Probably... no.

There's no existing data in place about the POV of stories. ( The series feature simply works off stories titled with "ch." or "pt." and doesn't catch series of any other type )

Getting a search for this to work would require checking every single story on the site, and I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

Perhaps a tag for it could be added to the submission form so that future stories would have the necessary data bit, and older stories could be edited to include it by authors, but there would still be thousands upon thousands of stories that would never get checked.

Not too feasible either. Most writers don't know what perspective is--and some of those who think they do, don't. So author tagging would be a bust.

Uhm.

So probably the only thing to do to make it possible would need to have the active participation of the users (and authors).

A voting system of some sort at the start of each story? When that story has 100 votes and more that 90% say 1st person the "tag" is applied.
It's the first idea that came across my mind, I know nothing of the code involved.

The problem there is that many stories will never receive 100 votes for the content, and I suspect the number of people who would bother with this would be a miniscule percentage of that already small number.

It's not as if it's a bad idea, but the underlying database structure and code at the core of the site makes executing it with any degree of accuracy very unlikely.

Quite a few stories are multiperspective (some are even intentionally so).

It would probably be a mess to navigate and then wouldn't be reliable.

Forgive me for my ignorance showing but does it really make that much difference?

Or am I just weird?

I like stories from all perspectives, even enjoy reading from the male perspective, sometimes I write from it (as if I would know what the heck a man is thinking, only what I wish he was thinking, lol).

I don't much mind if the perspective changes throughout the story...It can get annoying if it is done wrong (too fast, too often, or no indicators...).

You may have also noticed that I am not very editorial either, that is why I ask.

Posters have said from time to time that they only read one perspective or didn't read anything in a specific perspective, so it must be important to some readers.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't important...

I see THAT it could be important, but WHY?

I was asking for enlightenment...

Sorry.

It's important not specifically for personal tastes but because it's one major factor that *define* the story. In fact that's the only major factor you can't put into the search engine.

Of course for those stories that don't have a single perspective there should be a third "class" called "male\female".

@Darkniciad: are you sure? I think this site is far more read than you think :) In any case the number 100 was just an example, the admin of literotica could probably find the proper one.

Dark is sure, Nilth. ;) He's got a good bead on things here.

What you're not picking up on, Nilth, is that, though most of us love our Lit readership dearly, they tend to be a passive bunch. Mostly, we're a guilty pleasure to be enjoyed by the readers then promptly set aside when their real life beckons.

You're right, Lit has a large audience. We know and that's why we post our stories here. Some of us exclusively. :D But the percentage of those readers who vote or comment is quite low - figure 1% vote, as a rough ballpark, and all that takes is clicking once on one of those little star thingies. Maybe another 1% of those voters leave comments, which is more akin to the level of involvement it sounds like you're asking for.

To hijack one of sr71's soapboxes (I think it's his, apologies if my credit distribution errs) for a moment: the readers owe us nothing. We post. They read. Anything else is a courtesy.

One last point, and it's me empathizing with your plight, Nilth, so stay with me. If your motivation for this project is a personal preference to read/not-read, say, female first person perspective stories here because, say, you're a guy and it's weird/impossible to settle into a fantasy from the female perspective becaues it makes you feel "gay" to be on the receiving end, well, I had trouble with it too, once upon a time. I grew up on a steady diet of penthouse letters-type stuff. Dad didn't lock his dresser ;). My point is, when I came to Lit a dozen years ago huntin' for some smut, I came with a narrow grocery list: I wanted only and I mean only short, graphic heterosexual stories either from third person or from first person male POV's. You know, because I'm a guy and I needed to sink into the fantasy for those reasons.

For better or worse, by accident or design, Lit has widened my tastes; give it half a chance and it will widen yours. Frankly, I've learned a few things from my sweet and pervy brethren here that contribute to the rosy glow my wife has after a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Surely there's someone's blush (now or future) that you'd like to contribute to. :rose:

For Literotica, you'd probably have to have a unicorn/alien class too. :D

..rosy glow stuff..
Hehe thanks for the input and yes, it's highly probable literotica will widen my already perverted mind :D

Of course I'm here because I always found 99% of the "classic porn" incredibly boring and yes, I find reading by the female perspective rather interesting\fun (I just realized you probably thought otherwise...my motivation it's simply be able to easily find the type of story I'm interested in, and perspective and 1st\3rd person are pivotal).

You are probably right about the low percentage of potential contributors, but I'll maintain the hope that a "well crafted" box ahead of each story could harvest a little more votes.

For Literotica, you'd probably have to have a unicorn/alien class too. :D
There, that's definitely something I haven't considered :D

Oh, I'm sure. I've been around for a while. Even established authors in a lot of categories can struggle to reach 100 votes. Newer writers can often struggle to reach 10 if they're not writing Loving Wives or Incest.

Some statistics from my own story file and tracking the themed contests ( which draw more votes than average stories due to longer exposure periods and top billing on the NEW list )

http://www.darkniciad.com/hotlink_pics/lit_stats_home.htm

Look at the toplists:

http://www.literotica.com/top/

Notice how many stories on the all time toplists are between 100-200 votes in about half the categories. Keep in mind that most of those toplists require at least 100 votes to even make the toplist.

Click on the "last 12 months" link on any of those toplists, and you see an even greater number of low 100's or less, because anything above 10 votes can make the smaller time window lists.

"Last 30 days" decreases even more, and easily 90% of the views/votes on any story will happen in the first seven days. Really, most of the voting happens in the first two days.

Regardless of how many people are reading stories here, the number of people who actually vote is a different ball o' wax.

Then consider how many people who vote will comment. That's another fraction of the already small fraction. Add another layer to that...
