I imagine this is probably a very silly question, but here goes:

I am nearly done with my edits/revisions of my story on Literotica. I am interested in shopping it around to publishers and/or e-publishers, but I am sad about the notion of taking it down from the site...which I imagine that publishers will expect.

Would it make any difference if I removed the story before I sent it off to publishers? Or would the story's relative success on this site make the story more attractive?

If I don't get any bites from publishers, I'll likely put it up as a self-publishing deal on Amazon and/or lulu and the like, so it's not a total loss. But I'd love to give this a real shot.

General advice on publishing stories from those here who've pulled it off would certainly be appreciated. :)

I have published two stories through two different publishers. One required me to remove the story from Lit before they would proceed. The second one said I could leave it here untouched. Not sure what I can share here, so PM me and I'll let you know the publisher who told me they would publish with the story still available here on Lit (and other websites, be that as it may).

I think every e-publisher is different. Some will require exclusive rights, which means you'll have to pull it, while others will require non-exclusive rights, which means you can do whatever you want with it and you're basically just giving them permission to publish your work.

I could be wrong, but exclusive rights can sometimes include a story not being previously published anywhere else, and I think that would include a site such as this. Even though it's free here, it's still published.

Most e-publishers have their requirements listed on their submissions pages so you're best to check them out that way.

Good luck.

I'm going through Smashwords and they don;t care as long as you are the author and could prove it if need be. I ma going to leave my Siblings with benefits series up on lit even though my first book with them will be chapters 1-10 of that series (with 2 new ones not posted on lit) and I've been told it's not an issue

My publisher only allows me to post excerpts of stories for promotional reasons, something up to 3000 words, or something like that. However, I've found that Lit will not allow you to post an excerpt of a larger story, so that is that. I do post excerpts on my own website, though.
