Sydney is promised a few cooler days with temps in the 20s & at around 3am today a cool change from the south blew in colling things down nicely so now I'm off to bed.

I was glad to hear that as well. Caught Bandit on the other side & read her post.
Her family was my first thought when I heard about it. Be safe & enjoy that small cold front you had go thru.![]()
Text this morning says lots of shaking over night with very little sleep, lucky they had a portable cooker for meals & lots of candles etc so they are making do.

They are all ok. No power or water and my brother says they have to "poo in a bag" and bury it in a hole in the garden
I spoke to my mum and bro this morning, mum was outside between the garage and fence pruning one of her plants when she got thrown to the ground (luckily it was soft grass) and had to crawl to the middle of the front lawn before she could stand up. The neighbours arrived home in their car and asked her if she was all right and she said no there's just been another bloody big earthquake (her words), the neighbour thought her car steering had gone wonky while she was driving she didn't realise there had been a quake until then. Mum stayed with her until my brother got home, although there was a bit of a panic when he couldn't find her at first!
My brother walked the 10km home from his work because no buses were running, it took him 2 hours. Kids (17 and 13) were sent home from school, my sister in law was out shopping and she had to walk a fair hike home, had to take her shoes off to get through some of the mud that had come up through the ground at one point. Mum had just got home herself about half an hour before it hit, she would have been in trouble if she'd had to walk too far (she's 74).
They're hoping they get power soon, it is on at the shop up the road where bro went to get a paper this morning. They caught 30 litres of water last night in buckets and their shade cloth so they are pretty right for that for a while. They have a gas cooker and candles and torches. The kids are pretty bored with no power though!
thsy are safe !
BANDIT'smum & brother are heading up to the north island for a week & his wife & kids are staying with friends away from Christchurch for a week too just to get away for a bit so they can get a break form the problems at home.
That sounds like a good idea, Gil. Will be good for them to have proper water and facilities and away from after shocks. The poor kids must be scared.
My daughter is thinking of quitting her dairy farm job. You may or may not know that only a couple of months ago she was in hospital for a week with glandular fever and strep throat. Her recovery is going well but she's so tired all the time and it's taking too much out of her.
She's worried that she'll be thought of as a quitter and yes her dad is saying all the wrong things (like I would have expected anything else). She's done her damndest to keep up but it's all becoming too much and she's starting to hate the job.
I think (and I've told her this) she needs to find a job with shorter hours to enable her to rest and have time for herself. Might not even be a farming job. Which is all she really knows, but she's a hard worker and a quick learner. She's young and she needs to take care of herself right now and not worry about anything else.
And if I could get hold of her dad right now I'd throttle him![]()
my recovery from glandular fever took a year.
your daughter definitely needs to look after herself first - rest and down time are all-important to help her body get over this horrid illness.
echo re kid's dad.... bastard-ex is having a ball in the USA, and he hasn't bothered to tell the kidlets when (or even IF) he's coming back to oz![]()
We had another Police Officer killed here last night.
This one 10 minutes from my house. That's 3 in less then a month.
Man I don't live in a bad area but this SWAT stuff is even freaking me out.
Starry I think this whole don't spank your naughty kids bullshit is the cause of younger people around the world having no respect for others & things like this is a result, 2 nights ago we had a bus driver injured by young people tossing things at the bus in Sydney then tonight we see see that a Melbourne bus driver suffered the same violent type of attact on his bus.
Do we not have the News covering these things or do we need laws to make the offenders regret their actions.
think we just need to enforce the laws , it's bull shit to give time off for good behavior ,what about those those that never commit a crime , if you suppose to serve life then so be it ,if you suppose to die for your crime so be it , if you are suppose to be in prison for Xdays so be it . We give them more rights than we have . they should not have ANY once they commit the crime and convicted of it. Sorry I got started , it's not new laws we need just enforce the one's we have !
