Kiwis...

Did you just post a picture of a dead guy? It's a bit soon for fucks sakes. I don't want to see that shit. Is he dead? Has he even been buried? That's not how we roll in NZ.

Errr...he was "dying." Apparently I upset someone by posting it. I'm taking it down now.

I posted this on the General section of the message board and I'm ashamed of all the nasty replies I got. I'm going to post it here in hopes of my friends from New Zealand will see it. Thanks!

Hi all,
I wanted to post something about our Lit members from New Zealand to let them know they're in our hearts and prayers. I've gotten to know several gals and one guy from there on Literotica--I've greatly enjoyed posting with many from there. I have a friend with a young family in Christchurch that I've not heard from yet. If you pray, please add my friends--I'm so worried about them!! In case, anyone in or around Christchurch can get to the Lit boards--know that all of you are in our hearts and prayers. I know that I'm thinking of you each and every day and I so look forward to hearing from you as soon as you can.

God bless you and be safe!!

I just looked at your thread and I'm sorry about the jackassery. What you got was a typical GB treatment of someone we don't recognize. You're more than welcome to post in this thread as much as you like.

Thanks for the warm welcome

Thank you. I wasn't prepared for that reaction--no--I was shocked. Oh well, at least someone understands that I'm concerned about everyone effected by such a terrible event not just my friends. I live on the New Madrid fault in the U.S. that is due a quake just like this one. We live with the idea that it could happen to us at any day--anytime. Sigh . . .

Sadly, I don't know my Lit friends real name but we've talked a lot and our families have a lot in common. I got a PM from both of the gals I've gotten to know here earlier today--ahhhhhh they're fine!!! Cut up and terrified but fine. Now that only leaves my one friend I need to hear from--keeping my fingers crossed. Funny isn't it how we get to know others so well on a site like this--not what I expected! LOL I guess I'll just have to wait and see if he comes online.

Thanks for being so kind :rose: and I'll sure continue to keep ALL the good people of New Zealand in my thoughts and prayers. Some_Postman . . . PM me if you get back online! I hope you and your family are ok. :rose:

Knowing the people who were posting in it, I can say pretty confidently that none of it was personal. It's a sort of hazing.

In any case, I hope you hear from your friend. I've made a number of close friends here and on other forums over the years, many of whom I've never spoken to except online. They're friends just the same.

That's a pretty corner of the country down there. Hope your imminent earthquake is a tame one when it comes.

I heard from my family member today. Their house is structurally damaged but the main thing is that they are safe and well.

To ticklish709 and others who haven't heard news yet I send you my sympathy.

Thanks again to the many countries who have sent search and rescue, police, Drs, nurses, support workers, money, equipment and supplies.
Our country is fairly small and we always try to help other countries when it is needed. To see the support when we need it has been a wonderful thing.

113 lost. RIP. :rose:

Roughly 220 + still missing.

For those who are wondering - it may seem a small thing compared to other countries disasters but Christchurch is the second biggest city in our fairly small country.
It is the largest city in the South Island and so to us the earthquake and the loss of life and damage is not something we are used to.

The last big earthquake was the 1931 Napier one when approx 256 died.

We know it is a small blip compared to the terrible disasters that have befallen other countries.

People were jackasses about this? Of all things to be an asshole about...

If you know these people, please stand up and let them know what idiotic self-serving drivel they are writing... there is no excuse to cruelly mock the distress of others.

Maybe they need to understand that most Kiwis have respect for other cultures and empathy for the suffering of others irrespective of differences in personal politics. Your GB associates may lack such international goodwill but the least they can do is know when to shut the F**k up!

I am terribly sorry that someone made light of this. It's some fucked up shit that has gone down in NZ. We have sent some coppers and other kinds of assistance. NZ is family.

Kia ora Vrose

Our Aussie mates are doing a fantastic job ... great support with SAR teams and police.

And, in return we let you beat us at cricket tonight ;) That could cost you though .. we do expect to "play" when we come over! (even if we are family). :rose:

Nah kick their arses if you can. I am not a cricket fan. If they lose maybe they'll stop!:D

I think unfortunately our recent disaster experience is keeping the teams in tip top condition. Are we sending rescue dogs? I think NZ is one of the few places we can send em (no rabies?).

You DID thrash us in the world cup cricket match though the "oldies" of both countries had a charity event yesterday which we managed to win comfortably - with some help from some younger than expected team members and repeated CPR for the others! (while the Aus team was smoking cigs and sending texts :) ).

Yep ... some dogs managed to sneak through customs weqaring Shane Warne masks and I saw the Japanese arrived with theirs too with no quarantine delays under the "special powers" enabling law in place. It's more likely the poor animals get held in confinement for months on their return home after being exposed to the NZ fleas!

I try to pick my battles here.

The Earth trembles and quakes as mountains shake
buildings fall as bridges break and ground cracks
people caught unaware as their world reels and roars
alarms scream as people call out and cry in shock

here amongst the rubble smoke and dust drifts
buckled steel groans under concretes burden
among the debris broken twisted bodies lie
entombed till brave rescuers reach and excavate

by hand or shovel slowly, careful inch by inch
to claim back the bodies for their loved ones
or to reunite the stretcher borne injured
by blanket, carried in arms or makeshift sled

to their relieved weary tear streaked kin
alive or fallen, their bodies are embraced
joyous proclamation or mournful goodbye
weep and wail tears flow to mourn a loss

as heartfelt prayers are said to comfort believers
others mourn their dead with a wake or Tangi
at the Marae with hangi pit dug and Pōwhiri said
touch, hug or keen over the tūpāpaku till 3 days pass

loved and lost but memories are never forgotten
survivors grateful and relive their tale to share
rescuers continue to search beneath the ruins
hoping to find life but knowing it may be in vain

rebuilding will come once the ruins are cleared
time will pass and grief will still weigh heavy
a sad tribute to those and a glad tiding for the living
from the day the Earth trembled mightily

148 dead and many still missing. Approx 200. (But it is really hit and miss as police are still working through who is missing, the deceased, injured and possibly missing etc.)

http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-stories/8914922/

"There is still hope that not all the missing people in Christchurch are victims of last week's quake.

Police say about 200 people from 20 different countries are still missing, but they believe many were likely to be found safe and well.

Superintendent Dave Cliff has reiterated his plea for overseas visitors to contact their families or the Red Cross."

(tangi = A Māori way of dealing with death, grieving and burial. A funeral.

Pōwhiri = A Māori welcome on to a marae is a pōwhiri (or pōhiri). Marae are not the only places where pōwhiri take place - pōwhiri can happen anywhere that hosts (tangata whenua) wish to formally greet a group of visitors.

tūpāpaku = The deceased.)

I'm a lousy Aussie, I know. I also think VB tastes like cat piss and I hate the beach. I do love my vegemite though and milo too....vegemite toast and a cup of tea *drools Homer style*

Kia Ora, Byron999.

It is a sad time but as per usual the Kiwi attitude shows that we can band together and make the best of things.

Plus the support from so many countries has been amazing.
America, Great Britain, Korea, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan.
Thank you.
