Pending Unusually Long

Hi,
I have about thirty stories out. Literotica always publishes them within 3 days or so. However, recently all my stories remain at pending without moving on. Is this a technical glitch? Or, is it an indirect way of saying, we don't like your stories anymore?

The first story, I submitted a week and a half ago - pending. Then, I submitted a second story and asked in the comment section for the earlier one to be checked up on. That one is now pending for five days.

What should I do?

I believe when contests are on, the pending stage is longer. There are a greater number of stories being submitted than normal, so hang in there and it'll be out shortly.

You could PM Laurel separately ("Private Messages" at top right of this page). It could be your request to check something has them set aside for that checking. It must be very timeconsuming for the editor(s) to handle the daily posting list.

Thank you. I see, Valentine's day stories have the system swamped.

The Valentine's Day contest posting was over more than a week ago. Your problem, if it's continuing, seems unrelated to that.

If you click on the pending button and then hit anything on the page that comes up, it automatically puts you back to the end of the line. So if you are doing that, quit. ;)

sr71plt: Okay, I'll wait another two days and then PM Laurel.

TxRad: Yes, I know about that. I'm not going near the submission like it were fragile china :)

To update the thread, Laurel replied to a private message within 24 hours. Considering how many authors and stories are on the site that's pretty surprising.

All my submitted stories are part of the same series. The series is under special review. That's why they are taking longer.

stupid question

I have a stupid question (I guess)......
Why aren't stories immediately posted rather than pending? The first story I submitted had many errors in it as I rushed through writing it and posted it before re-reading it. What's the point of the lag in time if the stories aren't proof read and rejected?
I revised my story as I realized how terrible it came out but the original version is still up and collecting low scores. I really think the revision will do much better but it may already be way too late as it has a lot of votes and views. the rating is hovering around a 3.5 rating.....
I am really hoping it will post as a new story again as I changed it a lot. The way I understand it according to rules of the site, the scores remain the same as it sit where the original version did.
That sucks.

This is why I have a policiy of never submitting anything that hasn't sat for at least two days and then been reviewed. You never spot the fuck ups quickly.

That's very good advice.
I bet it happens a lot with first submissions. I was so excited to get it posted immediately after writing it that I never took the time to read it myself.....pretty damn stupid.

Not stupid, just new. It's good to be excited; it just needs to be tempered for technical excellence.

You can have that first story removed and once it's off your author's page, resubmit the edited version if the ratings are that important to you.

That sucks.

They take a long time to be posted because there's a gazillion stories submitted every day and limited editorial services and the Web site (wisely) has determined it will only post 60 or 70 stories a day. And the stories are checked against certain posting requirements. What you see as wrong in yours (that you put there) apparently didn't fall under what they were looking for to turn a story away. No, a human doesn't proofread every submission. The editors are acquisitions editors not copyeditors.

how do you remove it?

You remove it by submitting it again with "delete" added to the title and a request for deletion in the notes box.

If you want to replace it with a redone version, do the same with "edit" at the end of the title and a note in the notes box.

It will take the same time to happen as a new submission takes. That time delay is how long it takes the editor to dig down to look at it. An editor doesn't look at it as soon as it's submitted.

I have really enjoyed reading the erotica on this site for 7 years now. I never thought I'd actually write anything but have written 3 true stories already. I'm anxious for comments.
Another thing, I appreciate the help and comments many members have given me. This is a wonderful community of writers very willing to help out newbies like me. I appreciate people taking the time to read, critic and suggest things to me. It's also wonderful when I receive a pat on the back as well. My first story, I rushed and did a shitty job....but I have a revision in for it.
It's because of the kind knowledgible people on this site that I continued.
Thank you Literotica Authors.
I will probably find the appropriate place to post this and do so

how do you remove it?
What SR said.

However, you don't need to delete and resubmit to replace a story. You can request in the comments field that the original version be removed and the views and votes reset. You can also request the new version be flagged as NEW, but whether it will be or not depends on how extensive the changes are. The story may be flagged as "Revised" if it does post as NEW.

Use Edited or Revised instead of DELETE after the original title. Use 'Edited' for correction of typos and grammar issues, 'Revised' for more extensive changes.

OK, I did put revised not edited as I added and changed a lot of the story and corrected many mistakes.

If you mention that Ayn Rand approved of this work the process is much faster....ask AmiCoot....oh wait, he doesn't post here, does he?

If I Think a Story Has Merit

Once it's been posted, I'll proofread it and post my proofreads in the comments section. But that's rare; if I see too much slop I'll just ignore the story. Enthusiasm is great, and I don't want to chill anybody's ardor; but if you mean to write, as opposed to blab, then write. Of course, if you want to blab, feel free.
