Asked by Denise Maerker of Televisa what she thought of drug legalization, Clinton said it was unlikely to work.
"There is just too much money in it," Clinton said. "You can legalize small amounts for possession, but those who are making so much money selling, they have to be stopped. They can’t be given an even easier road to take, because they will then find it in their interest to addict even more young people."
I don't think pot makes you stupid, but this is sure stupid.

But if it were legal, there wouldn't be so much money!
Ok, so he admits there's a lot money in it...It's the money of busting people, no he's not worried what the dealers make or the youth getting addicted at a young age...If that were true the tobacco industry would have been such down ages ago...There's a lot of money in policing illegal drugs...That's why they can't make it legal...some economist figured out years ago, that the gov't would make less money making it legal, so it's never going to happen...
The last estimates I saw said Weed was a bigger Ag product than corn, in terms of total street value. ~30 billion a year? Anyway a big number.
However the entire consumption in the US could be produced in millions of small 'Mom and Pop' greenhouses, Hydroponics farms, or even spare Bathrooms, if they would legalize growing hemp.
As we have seen taxes have been 'calculated' as $50 an ounce, substantially higher that the equivalent alcohol.
Considering the markup to consumers, this domestic production could reduce the number of dollars at the consumer level to ~1/4th 'street price'. while pumping three billion into the economy at the local level. Why look for work when you can grow you own?
Hell, I'm a good gardener. If they legalize it I'll build a greenhouse and go into business even though I have no particular interest in using it.

You and everyone else in the nation in search of a job, which is 9% of the working aged population if you believe the government, or 25% if you don't smoke weed.
Are you saying that 14% of the working population smokes weed, sir!
No. I'm saying that the government published national unemployment figure is the biggest crock of shit they've got going.
Just wanted to make that clear to the DHS guy that monitors this page., mynameisben doesn't believe the Government.

Ben has lots of company...me for one.The War on Drugs has been a colossal flop no matter what Washington says. Legalizing pot would be a huge tax windfall for the feds and the states. Hell, they use cigarette taxes to provide health services for children in some states. Irony anyone?
Sure, some folks would grow their own, but most would buy it readily if it was available legally and FDA approved. Then the cops could go arrest thieves and murderers and not bust kids for having a roach in their cars ash tray or a nickel bag in their knapsack.
There would be some cases of pot abuse, just like there are for alcohol and it's taxed and legal...both can and will make you stupid and useless...fast food can make you fat if you abuse it...it's taxed and legal...and being fat causes all sorts of health problems.
Other than the morally superior hypocrites and the Bible thumpers, I would imagine most folks wouldn't mind if pot was legalized. We have a lot more worrisome problems in this country...like unemployment and the rising cost of living.

And if it actually does cause Wild Parties, Weird Orgies and Unleashed Passions I might even consider taking it up myself. http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii177/1volupturary_manque/smilies/horny.gif
