i've been through cyclones before... 11 to be exact, including 4 of the 5 biggest to hit oz so far.
cyclone orson hit on my 21st birthday, and wrecked my home as well as flipped my car over onto the roof.
during the worst of the cyclones, i well remember sitting in the bathroom, wrapped in doonas and buffered by mattresses.... and i remember very clearly my fear when the roof was ripped off the house and it seemed the wind might suck us all straight up and out into the storm.

my thoughts and prayers are with all those facing Yasi - i'm hoping that all come through with no losses too harsh to bear :rose:

and there, people, is the reason i now live in a place of mild climate.

6 months away from lit, and when I check back in we're still talking about the weather! :)

Fully justified too - looks horrible to be in QLD right now. Had a holiday recently on Lindeman Island, now I hear its been evacuated.

Later on, when the dust has settled and the water dried out, people can talk about "beautiful one day, perfect the next"

Good morning all, best of luck to our Queensland friends.

Yes, I've been a very naughty boy - and a fairly lucky one too: no damage from the flooding to speak of (which in no way excuses my not speaking of it :) )

Good to hear from you again - and do what you have to to make sure you're still here after Yasi finishes playing with us!

Gald to hear all is good for you & the bike.

As for Yasi it seems to have been less than originally thought which is great news & hope it keeps abating as it goes on accross QLD.

Well hello there RM, has been an age. Hoping you are getting to relax a little. Gees, Lindeman still there is it? Funny now how Queensland Islands don't figure much as a holiday destination as they did in the eighties. It's all cheap holidays to Fiji and Asia, whilst they may be wonderful places to go to, it would be nice to see us supporting our local tourist areas as well. Except for Surfers, which just makes me sad these days.

Be well and do drop in more often.

BANDIT:heart: & I went to Surfers in November 08 & we went again July 10 only to see so many changes in the people & the never ending building everywhere which disappointed us as we did have lots of fun that first visit.

As for Fiji & Asian destinations they take large cuts & offer airlines money so they can get the tourists in so untill the Aussie tourist venues change their thinking on profit margins people will always go for value for money.

Oh my! We are just under a blizzard warning! Compared to the above posts, that is nothing.

Take care all down under.

Thinking of you & your fellow Americans dealing with the show, ice & cold, hope your power stays on too.

How about getting lots of the snow transported down here so we can cool down a little, poor BANDIT:heart: is melting as Kiwis are not used to this kind of heat.
