I, for one, appreciate the Website owners' weighing in recently via thread relocations on what their intention for this part of the forum is. They pretty clearly are conveying that it really is meant as a forum for Lit. authors and/or on writing issues. So, now we don't really have to speculate much on what the forum intent is--and thus stretch it to meet the expectations of people having nothing to do with the core purposes of Literotica just coming here to impose their political rants on the rest of us seemly because the forum is mostly unmoderated and they've been tossed out of every other discussion board.

The Author's Hangout is for authorly/writing discussions, or for discussions started by Literotica authors. Thanks for understanding! - Admin

What this means is, anyone who posts one story to Lit can start as many off-topic threads as they desire, since they are then officially literotica authors.

:)

And it doesn't address the off topic ad-homs in the threads themselves, a fact I've been taking advantage of lately.

Still, It's a start. (The thread that I posted was actually meant to be writing related, although I didn't make that clear in any way, mea culpa)

Yes, I would take it to mean one story and not necessarily current. But it's a start toward the real Lit. authors taking this forum back (or for the first time, probably). And the owners' statement sweeps away a whole lot of claims on who/what this part of the forum is for. It's a start.

For some, even producing that first story on Lit. is going to be a real chore/revelation. Can't wait to see JBJ's first one. :)

Fuel for the Writing Machine

But what really is "off-topic" for a writer? I posted a thread to learn more about the Egyptian Riots, but I could now use what I learned there to write a romance that happens during these riots...couldn't I? And we all post threads asking about info from firing guns to working in hospitals to how to bake a cake.

Writers don't write in a vacuum.

Still, I do agree that if we're going to go off-topic (meaning, a topic not specifically about writing or story telling), what we talk about should be for the sake of writing--i.e., grist for the mill--rather than merely trying to say, "My side is right and your side is wrong!" or "What I really hate about XYZ!"

It should be, "Can you give me information on this/that to feed the writing machine....?"

I think I'll write a "lesbian" story about Tiffany and Shandra and thier 34DDs and the three-inch-long fingernails and the freshly shaven pussies.
:D
And then I'll write about Blade and Zachary and their manly chest hair and ten-inchers. :D

Plot? What plot?

I separate the issues. I'm not so much concerned with discussion outside of direct writing issues as I am with ranters landing here because it's unmoderated and no one else will give them breathing space for their laregely irrelevant and extremist and tiresome rants and being able to do so without paying any dues to the Website host at all.

I still think it would be best to make it a sign-in board with only those having posted a story in the last three months or so having sign-in privilege. Then let them discuss whatever they want to discuss in their writerly lives. Just make them pay some Website dues to be in this forum.

Well, the title of the NaNoWriMo guidebook is No Plot? No Problem! :D

That would be fine. I'd read it.

Allow me to draw upon both the immortal words of William Shakespeare . . .

"It is no matter; let no images
Be hung with Caesar's trophies. I'll about,
And drive away the vulgar from the streets:
So do you too, where you perceive them thick.
These growing feathers pluck'd from Caesar's wing
Will make him fly an ordinary pitch,
Who else would soar above the view of men
And keep us all in servile fearfulness."
-- Flavius, in Julius Caesar, Act I, Scene I

Now, who can tell me where the hottest free web cam porn sites are?

I haven't written anything since last June, but I still like hanging out with you guys. I thought it was a hangout.

JBJ is a literary Titan!

If Sp71plt and Stella get what they say they want, they will end up posting to each other and everyone else will go someplace else.

I note that both of them contributed to the Ayn Rand thread I started the responses to which have nothing to do with "authorly"(horrible word) issues. Maybe someone should ask for it to be moved?

Finally it's worth noting that JBJohnson has started and made interesting contributions to writing threads in the last few weeks. His "Understanding writing" thread shows an insight most of his critics are incapable of.

But to be fair sr71plt is very good at commas though.:)

Apart from that I readily acknowledge that JBJ frequently behaves like an asshole as does Amicus... but at least they're literate assholes.

But the question that flummoxes me is, why do sr71plt and Stella want to control what other people wish to say when there are perfectly good tools available to them to tailor the forum to suit themselves. I think a fair number of the people posting here are as mad as hatters (myself included) but most of us feel no need to direct and control the thoughts and writing of our fellows.

Naw, I wouldn't be speaking to Stella, because she wouldn't qualify. There is a new generation of folks who actually pay their writing dues to the Web site who are interesting. I'd talk with them.

Probably wouldn't be talking to you, though, because you just sweep by to pronounce judgments from on high. (Let's see. A tolal of two stories, both over three years ago. Yep, here's another one who must not have a life to still be playing Lit. author.)

I'd end up having to post with whatever pen name posted a story last, and even that wouldn't help when I have long dead zones :p Kinda sucks when I have over 150 stories/chapters up.

There are lots of other sections on this forum.

The name is "Author's Hangout." But I'm sure you'd write more often to keep in the mix.

The name WAS Author's Hangout.

It changed to Authors' (note the plural) Hangout some time ago. Now it is a hangout for several authors, not just one unnamed author.

I'm dubious about the message from "Admin". "Admin" apparently doesn't know that the Author's Hangout has been renamed.

Og

Ooops. You're right on the name. (But not the current makeup.)

Actually, it's a hangout for a few current Lit. authors, a few once-upon-a-time Lit. authors, a few non-Lit. authors, and whole lot of parasites who are only here because it's largely unmoderated and no one pays attention to their extremist views in real life.

I'd like to see them do away with the apostrophe altogether and simply call it "Authors Hangout." That way, the name would be more of an invitation for Authors to hang out, and to do so in an environment that does not imply a degree of ownership. Stripping away the facade of implied ownership would make the place less intimidating to the non-authors among us who enjoy hanging with the namesake hanger-outers.

You have stories posted here, laurel won't move it. And as I noted, since nobody is forced to play by any particular rules here, I will enjoy myself as well. Why shouldn't I enjoy the fruits of hypocrisy like everyone else? :D

Really? What insights does he show? Which ones are his critics incapable of? I'm truly curious about that. What I've read seemed unexceptional, and also rooted, as usual, in contempt -- for his readers, in those cases. You know, he talks about dragging dead skunks in front of them or something along those lines.

I'm taking notes. :D

Neither of us want to control what other people say. There are plenty other places to say things like "Obama is a terrorist Commie fascist," or "You all are nothing but filthy immoral hippies." They can go there to say those things.

This forum actually has a little bit of purpose, which is often buried under trolling uglies. And the newbies don't yet have the tailoring tools.
