Having a difficult time ending an erotic story....anyone ever have this problem? If so, how do you overcome it?

For me, it's no to both. A good ending is part of the story, and I don't want to keep writing on the same story.

I agree with you on this. Although I have 15 stories unfinished, I can't seem to get to the climax... Or I haven't decided exactly how I want it to progress.

I have found if I let it sit and stew... it will eventually come to me. Sometimes a week, sometimes a year.

Look at the plotline rather than the sex act. Most of the time that a story ends with a sex act, it wasn't a story to begin with. Look at the story element. What would wrap this story up in a conclusion that represented a resolution (even if only temporary) and a change in something/someone and, if possible, a little twist of the tail that will surprise/amuse the reader?

If it's not a story, just end it with an orgasm and be done with it.

I agree - finish the story not the act, resolve the conflict that is the core of the story. If it is just a sex scene - well how does sex normally finish...

No, if it's in first person, I usually end it with me and her cuddling together and whispering about how great it was. Sometimes one of us has to leave, for one reason or another, but usually I end the story before that. Third person stories end in a variety of ways, sometimes with all the people involved falling asleep.

That can be called a coda, with maybe a denouement. Much more satisfying to the reader than cumming and ending!

I like to have a climactic moment in my stories, and the obvious one is when all the participants cum. The last few paragraphs after that could be called a denouement, but I don't usually have much of a plot to wrap up.

For one that you've already started I don;t really have a suggestion except to go with box licker on the "They came they kissed they slept" type of ending I mean by then the reader ahs gotten through the sex and is happy.

The trick to me would be never start one unless you can "see" the ending right off the bat.

You see i wrote with no outline whatsover (this is where anyone who has read my stories says "No shit!) I write by Image I see the start aI then see the end and then just figure how to get from a -c by filling in b. So in a nutshell don;t start when you know you have no idea how to finish then it's just wasted work.

I, almost always, have difficulty finishing a story.

I don’t have any problem coming up with a story’s ending, as I won’t start any serious writing until I’ve worked that out. I simply have trouble plowing through a story’s final editing and polishing.

I think my problem boils down to simple boredom. Once I’ve written the basic story, and most of the dialog, I get bored with the very time consuming editing process.

The only thing that I can do to overcome my problem is to force myself to plow through the editing process and not allow myself to start a new story until I’ve finished with the one in front of me.

Perhaps your problem is different from mine? The title of your thread is “Finishing a story”, but then you go on to say, “Having a difficult time ending an erotic story….”

If you are, indeed, having trouble coming up with a suitable ending for one of your stories, the only advice I can give is, in the future, work out your story’s ending before you begin any serious writing. That is, work methodically. Write a story outline before you do anything else.

I’ve read a number of posts, on this forum, where writers have openly scoffed at the idea of working so methodically. Some of them have talked about “putting their characters in ‘situations’ just to see what they will do”. That is not my method, but if writing that way really works for them, then who am I to criticize? If it doesn’t work, however, then it may be time to examine the writing “method”.

I hope these comments help, at least, a little bit.

I don't think writing something you don't use is wasted work. I see it all as part of learning and improving. So what if you write a few thousand words and never finish the story? Let it go and move on. If the idea was supposed to be a story, then it would be.

True, I never toss anything just put it in a word doc with a name. most of them are random sex scenes so I've literally pasted them into stories. I think what I meant was simply is if you have no idea where it will end it may not be best to start.

I have several stories that began without anything more than an image or a thought. One was even a contest winner here. Having an ending in mind wouldn't do me much good anyway since it would be rare for the story to go there.

Some of the random bits and pieces I fill Bingo slots with. And some I toss.
