a UK-based lingerie company has apparently launched the first L-cup bras, to meet the requirements of our ever-increasing bust size. and they're actually kinda cute too...

having failed to graduate past a B-cup, i can find a decent bra pretty much anywhere...but for those of you who are beyond DD and DDD, where do you find sexy bras?

also this company claims that the average bra size in the UK is a 34E...which is a bit difficult to believe...what do you guys across the pond think?

Biggest bra none: First ever L-cup unveiled as breasts get larger

For generously-endowed women, finding a bra that fits comfortably can be a real problem.

Now the first ever super-size L-cup bra has been manufactured to help solve the problem.

Bravissimo launched the first 28-inch back size and fitted shirts tailored for women with bigger chests as well as introducing the KK-cup size two years ago.

But it seems even the KK was not enough and customers soon complained that they needed an even bigger size.

In response the firm have released the jumbo bra in cup sizes D to L in black, nude, white and petal pink.

The body shape of women has altered in the last few decades with many discovering they have developed bigger breasts due to changes in diet and lifestyle.

Lisa Walker, 42, from Cheshire, wears the L-cup Alana bra and says it gives her much more support and comfort than her previous KK.

A spokesman for the company said: ‘This might sound a bit over the top but it is easy to underestimate how much your figure, the way your clothes look and the way you feel about yourself can be transformed by the right bra.

‘Almost 80 per cent of women are wearing the wrong size [bra].

‘Our research has shown that up to 40 per cent of women should be wearing a D-cup and above – even if they don’t yet know it.

‘We believe the UK average bra size is actually a 34E.'

Cool. I'm always a bit confused on sites that sell things by the pound. Do they take dollars? How do you buy stuff that's being sold in pounds when you only have dollars?

Big boobs are overrated, I like little.

If someone would pay for me to have a reduction, I'd go for little, too.

If they take PayPal, you can do it that way. And some places will let you use American credit cards, too.

Amen. And I'd love to know why when big boobs are brought up someone has to say they're overrated. No one was saying they're awesome, but some of us are stuck with them and pretty bras are nice whether you have big or little boobs.

I don't have a paypal account. I don't know if I want another account to keep track of.

But I really need a new bra. Decisions, decisions.

It has a place near the upper right hand of the page to select your currency. Having said that, why order from overseas? There is fab site called Herroom.com that has bras in every size imaginable, including L. I have ordered from them several times and been very pleased with the service.

I'm a 40B. Cute and sexy bras in my size don't exist. (CutieMouse tells me I'm likely not a 40B, but I haven't been to the store in New York to get fitted yet.) They simply don't exist. I usually have to shop online. My wife does too actually, she's a 42DD. We also shop at the L'eggs/Hanes/Playtex/Bali outlet store out in Leesburg, VA - they have both our sizes. But I went online to get a leopard print bra recently..******* is the only way I can find anything.

Cacique by Lane Bryant has quality plus size lingerie, including bras. I think my wife has a better selection of sexy bras than I do...I can't ever find anything but plain jane.

As for the average UK bra size, they use a different system than we do. A 34E there is 34DD here. Sounds a bit off to me, I'd expect a smaller cup size, but maybe they just grow 'em bigger. Other countries have other systems, here's a converter: http://www.85b.org/bra_conv.php

there's a price conversion link in the top right. click the american/canadian flag and it converts :)

Etoile, thanks for posting the link to the size converter. so i am a voluptuous C-cup in the UK, hehe. :D they don't have the AA so that tosses us all up a notch. still like you say, even 34DD sounds a bit large to be "average."

hmmm, now i wonder who was truly first to make the L-cup?

i'm a Brit with 40 E boobs and yes pretty sexy bras can be hard to find ....you have to shop around for something which also has industrial support lol

Whoa, that HerRoom.com site has several in my size, awesome!

Panache, Goddess, Elomi and Fantasie have been doing H - K cups for years, but a Fantasie Kara HH cup fits fuller than a Panache Tango II in a J. Lingerie sizing depends on vendor and a whole bunch of other stuff, so there's no way to know if Bravissimo's "L" is actually bigger than anotehr vendor's J, JJ or K cup. The engineering of the cup gets graded to the span of the back band... the greatest disparity I've ever had was a client who had always bought a 38DD, but her true size was a 30I; in HH cups she needed to be altered down to a 28.

I went to Bravissimo's site, and their "L cup" is a 3-part tulip seam - which is already very common in fuller cup sizes [especially in UK vendors]. Their sizing goes K, KK, L - which means the L cup is 1/2 cubic inch fuller than the KK. I'm curious how deep the wire goes - it's really hard to get a wire past a HH cup without ending up poking high under the arm (especially if the woman is under 5'7" or so).

And the model on their website showing the "L" cup bra is only about a FF or G... which fits nothing like a fuller cup. I'd love to actually see the thing on a true 32L

[/lingerie geek professional hat off LOL]

Every time I read your lingerie geek ramblings, I get an urgent need to buy a plane ticket, track you down and get fitted by you! I know I can find people that are just as knowledgeable as you are, but you seem to actually truly be interested in lingerie and want to help people find their true size, which, to me, makes all the difference.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for you :)) buying a plane ticket across the pond just to get a magnificent bra is a bit out of my reach. :)

And I've been wondering what's the deal with the wire sometimes poking me under my arm. Maybe I'm just too short for my boobs. Or my fit is completely off, which might be the case, as well.

I got a fantastic Elomi bra for Christmas, but the cup size was too small. :( It was a 42F. Also, could I ever find a bra where the underwire doesn't come up way too far under my arms and jab me constantly? *Sigh*

I'll show you that bra when you show me one that the wires won't pop through in the front. :(

I order quite a few of my bras from figleaves.com, they have a pretty big selection of bras in larger sizes. . .

Chances are, the American L Cup is different to the British L Cup.

Sizing always seems to be a little different.

American sizing goes AA, A, B, C, D, DD, DDD, DDDD.

EU [UK, German, French, etc] is A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ, K, I... and now apparently L.

An American bra is cut differently than UK; UK bras are cut differently than EU, etc... and that isn't even touching on construction and how seams/no seams impact the shape and fit. (You couldn't pay me enough to be a bra designer. LOL)

So, does that mean the cup size could technically be the same, but because of the cut, you might need a different cup size? Much like clothes, a size 14 in one brand is a little different to a size 14 in another?

Yes and no. Technically, each letter is roughly one cubic inch - except that how that "cubic inch" sits in the cup depends on the materials used, the firmness of the back band, the position of the shoulder straps, the placement (or lack) of seams, etc. It also depends on if a vendor specializes in smaller busts (up to and F cup for example), or fuller busts (DD - K). Except that all of that is very specific to EU lingerie. American bras simply do no go past a DDDD. Period. Which is how I end up seeing women who think they're a 38DD, when they're really a 30I - since there wasn't an option for a deep enough cup, someone with a measuring tape decided to increase the back band 8+ inches to try and compensate.

Why don't they go past a DDDD? Do they not think women can be bigger than that?

Aren't they losing money by not catering to all sizes?

Because 85% of women are in the wrong size.
Because it's cheaper to mass produce a style run in X sizes and expect women to deal with it.
Because American companies kick bras out of R&D every 9-12 months, and EU vendors take 18 months - 4 years.
Because American bras have 9-12 pieces, and EU bras have 30-45 pieces. (which means higher production costs/smaller profits)
Because a lot of American women balk at spending $100+ per bra, and dropping $700-$1500 a year (or two) for bras.

Victorias Secret makes money hand over fist with producttbat ischeaply produced and designed to wear out in 6-9 months. I own high end $145+ lingerie (bras) that I expect to last 3-5 years... Which one is the better business model?

To make me miserable.

Although, now I see why my bras are so freaken spendy. I usually figure on spending between 75 and 100 dollars on my bras. (For those who don't know I'm a 40JJ.)
