A very interesting read

I have just finished a book called "The Crueslest Miles" by Gay Salisbury and Laney Salisbury.

This is the story of the Sled Dog Run transporting Diptheria Serum to Nome Alaska during an epidemic in 1925.

Talk about an interesting read and one that is well written.

No, a shameless plug would have included a link *laugh*

Actually, the story was inspired by "Balto", which was inspired by the serum run. The biggest part of my Laresa chapters owe inspiration to the relentless assault of kid's movies that I'm forced to hear running all the time.

It did indeed. The Iditarod commemorates the run through hell the "Mushers" did to get the first batch of Serum to Nome.

Just reading about the conditions these people went through for no monetary gain on their part makes me shiver, and not in delight.

Great book. Balto has gotten much of the credit as the dog who delivered the serum on the final run, but this book gets the story right, and you get to see Togo, and the rest of the team that did the bulk of the work, making the hardest run over nearly twice the distance of any other team.

Probably the best account of the famous serum run. Definitely 'must' reading.
