 I guess we won't be getting any comments on our stories from Shanghai.

China has shut down more than 60,000 pornographic websites this year and arrested 5,000 people as it steps up a campaign against obscene material. Beijing has run a highly publicised drive against lewd online content which it claims is overwhelming the country's internet and mobile phones and threatening the emotional health of children.

Critics have accused the Chinese government of deepening the crackdown, launched last December, and said censorship had blocked many sites with politically sensitive or even user-generated content.

More here.

That's alright. Babblefish does a lousy job of translating Mandarin.

As long as the Japanese don't shut down their porn sites, I'm cool.;)

Perhaps the Chinese authorities should make real life in China more exciting for their people.

I wish they would shut down the spammers instead. A gaming forum I moderate is overwhelmed with gucci and ugg salesmen.

Now I know why the number of hits I get when I search for 'copyright oggbashan' has shrunk to a fraction of its former number. :D

Maybe they finally shut down all those sites stealing from us here at Lit.

I wonder how many porn sites were not shut down. Probably the ones operated by bigshot government bureaucrats.

Geez, I really hate to break it to you folks, but China is a Communist nation, a socialist nation, in which government determines all. Just what you folks are always clammoring for.

When you continually push for more and more government intervention and control in the private lives of people, there is but one inevitable conclusion; you will get controlled.

There is no Communist Capitalism, that be a contradiction in terms and an oxymoron; Capitalism requires an open and free market without regulation, thus the two, communism and capitalism, is only a publicity propaganda campaign to cover over the total lack of human rights in a communist or socialist nation.

But wait, there's more, censorship of the Internet is coming soon with the back door regulatory changes by the FCC and Net Neutrality, which will soon determine content on the internet.

You asked for it and...you are gonna get it!

Enjoy!
