Love the way you lie...

well i was really hoping people would watch it, but appparently I have no influence here!

Sighs....I couldn't watch the whole thing; I detest 'Rap', and "Love the way you Lie" is an oxymoron to me...

I am late to the dance again, as I have been editing and plotting and planning how to make four stories out of one and how to, under constant demand, to provide a sequel to some stories, which I have begun to do...but ending them, with finality, Christ, how do I do that?

Besides that, as I mentioned, Dish Channel 6033, has had solid Paul McCartney on all night, and as a muse and a background, all I do is write, edit, and, shit, tear-up over my own goddamned stories...go figure.

If one could wipe away all the extraneous crap in the video you linked, it would boil down to all the things I write about in terms of human relationships and...what it all means....

Advice...who would ever take advice from me...(unless you have read my stories), throw yourself totally into the relationship you are presented with and take what comes. What more are we given in life?

Well yes, it's an oxymoron. that's what makes it an effective literary device. Do you not think shakespeare uses them? or other great authors?

Eminem is amazing (although this is not Eminem) You really shouldn't right him off just because of a prejudice. But whatevs.

I'm diggin "Not Afraid" cuz I'm having my midlife crisis (despite any protests that I'm too young, just trust me that I recognize this life passage)

There's a game called circle and I don't know how
I'm way too up to back down
But I think I'm still tryna figure this crap out
Thought I had it mapped out but I guess I didn't
This fucking black cloud still follow's me around
But it's time to exercise these demons
These motherfuckers are doing jumping jacks now!

(Hook)

I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road

(Bridge)

And I just can't keep living this way
So starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage
I'm standing up, Imma face my demons
I'm manning up, Imma hold my ground
I've had enough, now I'm so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now

~~

Maybe it's still not your thing. Love the way you like is to me just absolutely mind blowing in it's honesty. It has so much truth that people don't want to face, talk about exploring your demons or your shadow. It's a song that holds a mirror to the truth and you can't fix a problem by denying the truth. People stay in fucked up relationships because they get something out of them that they need.

WHO can't relate to this:

You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe
When you're with them
You meet
And neither one of you
Even know what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah them chills
Used to get 'em
Now you're getting fucking sick
Of looking at 'em
You swore you've never hit 'em
Never do nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face
Spewing venom
And these words
When you spit 'em
You push
Pull each other's hair
Scratch, claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down
Pin 'em
So lost in the moments
When you're in 'em
It's the rage that took over
It controls you both
So they say it's best
To go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know ya
Cause today
That was yesterday
Yesterday is over
It's a different day
Sound like broken records
Playin' over
But you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window
Guess that's why they call it window pain

I had a flash about halfway through your Post of an old Judy Collins song, 'The Circle Game', maybe..much too late to confirm...

The last generation, maybe the last two, use referents that are alien to me, a child of the 50's, and even though I make every attempt to relate with my children, from age 50 down to 23, I manage only glancing contact and that not very often and I can only hope they can sift through my writings, and maybe, one day...when they really grow, they will understand some of what I see and write about.

I have some stories that might offer avenues of thought for you....but...I am not going to name them for fear of being accused, yet again, of tooting my own horn...some of them are here ot Lit, others are published, but ebooks are cheap....dunno..

There is, however, a song I would end this with...that you may know, I think the title is, "I wish you love"

Well this thread is making me sad. Is it true that when you grow up your soul dies, as Alley Sheedy said in the breakfast club? Do you calcify and become unable to appreciate anything that does not already fit into your standard definitions? I would think that as writers we would be more open-minded than that.

I hope that I will always be able to appreciate innovations in music and elsewhere and also new forms, old forms discovered, and forms previously unfamiliar, of self expression.

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

... and are there also no younger people on lit? absolutely no Eminem fans???

Either I'm getting a bad link or else I just don't know enough about the song being parodied. i dunno.

I remember that scene from "The Breakfast Club". both Ally Sheedy and Molly Ringwald.

While that film may have been about the rite of passage from child to adult; there is an inherent sadness in life itself...I suggest.

Youth should be, I offer, that time of almost carefree existence where a family, the family provides the security and nurturing necessary for a human child to progress into life.

Because we age, the teenage years become, for some, a time to leave the nest, a time to face our own destiny on our own terms, without the guidance of others while we survey our individuality and what it takes to satisfy the inner fires that burn.

Somewhere I read, 'there comes a time to put away the toys of childhood', or something like that, and also, 'one can never go home again...'

I don't think we calcify with age; I do think we keep the music of our youth as special and then discover that music is just music, after all, as is fiction, as those of us who try to look at the 'big picture', realize, finally, that music and art speak to our emotions and our intellect, and that different ages present different interpretations, but Rachmaninof's Variation on a Theme of Paganini, will always hold the same message...even a thousand years from now.

There are only so many ways to say something; life is not infinite, nor are human emotions and we can only learn so much, read so much poetry, listen to just so much music, before it all begins to repeat itself.

Goodbye, no use leading with our chins, this is where our story ends,
Never lovers ever friends.
Goodbye, let our hearts call it a day, but before you walk away,
I sincerely want to say.

I wish you bluebirds in the spring, to give your heart a song to sing,
And then a kiss, but more than this, I wish you love.
And if you like lemonade to cool you in some lazy glade,
I wish you health, and more than wealth, I wish you love.
My breaking heart and I agree that you and I could never be,
So with my best, my very best, I set you free.
I wish you shelter from the storm, a cozy fire to keep you warm,
Most of all, when snowflakes fall, I wish you love.

Not sadness, my friend, just growing up...it happens to all of us, but still, in all sincerity....I wish you love.

Either I'm getting a bad link or else I just don't know enough about the song being parodied. i dunno.

The lyrics from above are from the original- love the way you lie... Rhianna who sings with eminem was in a very public abusive relationship with Chris Brown, and Eminem has been abusive (and seemingly homocidal) with his on again off again gf Kim which makes this song very provocative. It's a very HONEST song about domestic violence and the draw of an explosive painful relationship, which a lot of people think that means that it glamourizes it... but I think it just tells the truth, there IS something that holds people there and to pretend otherwise does no service. It's like pretending that "evil" will always come along looking ugly and that it's not seductive. This type of relationship is also very seductive. Love and danger seem to go hand in hand... endorphans and all that-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelHwf8o7_U

The parody video is about a little boy and a little girl and they are basically going through the same things- they like each other but he keeps doing mean things to her instead of telling her how he really feels. I like the parady because it's funny and it's funny because it's true. I also like how it tells basically the same story, just from the point of view of 3rd graders. To me that really says something.

Be that as it may, you CAN enjoy rap or any other type of music at any age. not saying that you must or should, but there were several posts in a row stating, i'm just to old for that. It's like "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" or "it's too late for me." false. I guess I understand what was really mean tto some degree, but you shouldn't claim that you are unable to appreciate a musical type because of your age.

And if it's all just getting repetitive, then why WOULD'T you want to explore a new form.

It's prejudice is what it is, and that's why I don't like it.

Okay, it makes sense now. I didn't know the original song. Night Sweet one.

Night Edward:)

Me and a friend of mine at work used to always talk about "playground affection" among children and adults (yanking ponytales etc) so that's another reason i like this parody.

"I can't tell her that I like her, I can only shoot her with a spitball.
She should know that it means the same thing after all"

LOL- I know some adult men who are still just exactly like this.

S&P, I think one reason that older folk, like me, don't care for Rap is that it moves too fast, is poorly enunciated and I don't hear all that well.

I prefer instrumental music, mainly because it allows me to concentrate on other things, like writing. Vocals take too much concentration.

Reading the Rap lyric's is interesting, I pick up more that way. Listening to it, is not something I'd chose to do.

I think the 'spitball" line was good. Boys are boys after all.

No, you don't.
But you do have a 'model' of good or bad structure and even (God help me) - the words. You get left with an image of what's good or bad. To my ancient mind, using terms like 'Motherfucker', apart from being a bad example to the impressionable, has no place in a song. I ain't suggesting we go back to the 'Moon in June' crap, just that a bit of real thought goes into the words of a song.

And I cannot stand "rap".
It might qualify as a noise, but it ain't music to my ears.
It ain't music!

Sorry, Sweetie.

I don't know the original song, but the parody is funny enough to stand on its own.

The inability to see humor is a symptom of intellectual decline, or more likely a sign there was never much to begin with.
